I want some glamour

Serious question, would you class say a Jan Molby, Sami Hyypia or Didi Hamann as a "glamour" signing?

Then obviously, not now.

No, but this thread isn't talking about signing good players rather good attacking players and they tend to be considered 'glamorous'.

I don't know... I'm too young to recall how he was perceived at the time (although I remember enjoying the football), but looking back you'd have to say that paying a record fee of a player of Beardsley's ilk makes for an exciting signing.

Obv.he was known to be a fine player, but the story of that summer was the triple signing of him, Aldo and Digger. None of them got more attention than the others, as I recall it.

If you look at Barnes even people were saying how unproven he was a the top level. Oh how wrong that was. The player that stands out for me that season then was Ray Houghton who was really perceived as a very 'ordinary' player and, while he was no world beater, he became a pivotal member of one of the best sides we ever assembled.

I think we should all just chill out and see what happens before we start with this nonsense.

Hahahahahahahahaha.

I really LOL'd at that.

As for glamour signings, I say again, i don't give a shit.

Most of Utds top professionals over the last 15 years aren't & havent been 'glamour' players.

We're building a team, a side of 11 players. Yes, one or two star signings may be great, but when replacing up to 2/3s of your first team I think quality solid & consistent players are needed.

We're not really a glamour signing type of club, it doesn't fit in the Liverpool way. Barring the odd eexeption like Torres, we make signings and they become glamour players when we improve them. Chelsea and City are those types of clubs. It's all about the team and long may it remain so.

Agreed. I don't care about glamour, I care about quality. If that includes glamour then fine, but it's not important.

Adam is a fine signing in my opinion who will improve us, and is hardly a glamour signing.

Glad, I'm not the only one who thinks like this.

'Glamour' is the wrong term, but we do need players to provide width, creativity and the ability the win the match.

I thought Suarez was a glamour signing. 24m from a league where players are usually under valued (compared to the big leagues) is pretty significant. Had a big world cup, an unbelievable scoring record for his club and tricky as hell. Look at the difference he made for the team once he joined.
We could do with another signing like him.
Mata would be a glamour signing. Likewise Hazard and other wingers from the continent. They'd be big money signings, yet for less money than what Villa want for Stewart frickn' Downing.

We've overpaid for enough british players this year. Now let's overpay for a great player in another league, just like we did Suarez.

Obviously I was just a kid then so I can't remember so clearly but wasn't Aldridge signed during the previous season?

Yes but the fact that he has done so well makes his signing look more of a coup than it was.

He hadn't won anything of note and hadn't played in a top league really. He had a good World Cup but many players have good World Cups that bring them to people's attentions but end up disappointing.

We got him on the way up rather than when he was there really
