I wanNaby (Under the sea in an Octopus's Garden in the Shade) - Deal Confirmed

To go to Bayern next Summer.

To be honest, they won't care ... they obviously have the $$$s ... and aren't looking to win the league every year - so they won't give a toss where he goes ... But once these big clubs come in for him - especially if he continues to play at the level he was reaching last year (as per various reports - I never watched him), then he'll most likely be moving to a bigger club than ours.

Fuck all y'all, I'm still here, waiting...

Can't help but think likes of United City and Chelsea woud have Van Dijk and Keita wrapped up by now if they were made after them as we supposedly are.

Whatever and however anyone dresses it up, we aren't very good at closing out deals

Just like Chelsea wrapped up the Lukaku deal, and just like United wrapped up the Herrera deal in 2013?

And how Utd have wrapped up the Perisic deal. And signed Morata.

I don't actually believe either Chelsea or united had a priority target. They were in advanced negotiations for months with both.

Neither have lost out have they? They both signed someone they're more than happy with

Perisic still might happen, and Herrera...that was a weird aberration

People in here conveniently forget those that don't happen for other clubs and focus solely on the ones where the players were available at a given price to anyone !
Perhaps they targeted players who were available, rather than going for not for sale players

Perhaps we should have gone for bakayoko instead of keita

Maybe. But the general point stands. All teams miss out on transfer targets. It's the nature of the beast.

My point remains, we've completed plenty of deals over the years, but people act like we're incapable of closing out deals, and that United and Chelsea and whoever else complete all deals every single time. It's hysterical nonsense.

Perhaps we were led to believe both VVD and Keita were for sale.

Perhaps Bakayoko isn't one iota like Keita (that's actually not a perhaps at all) !

Indeed it is.

It seems not many are like keita who are any good

So if we're only after a very specific type of player, we should have made a shortlist and leaked that to the press, exactly how we did with keita.

I know bakayoko isn't like him, but at least he is a quality cm was was available

I don't see the problem. Klopp decided on the players he wanted, why compromise, that's what we have been doing for years. Buying 5 or 6 average players a year. This time the strategy was to get 3 top players. So far 2 haven't happened. Looks like we might get 1. I'd rather try this way than repeat the mistakes we have been making for years.

Its been widely reported that Utd have missed out on 3-4 top targets this summer.

The first one was Griezmann.

I have a bit of sympathy with the club over this summer. It seems we have gone for go big or go home but it hasn't worked due to the target's owning clubs financial position. If we had followed the same stance when it came to critical targets previously such as Ales, we may have got the player in the position we wanted.

TBF I don't need reports to tell me Utd are struggling to get top tier players.

However, I also know, that unlike us, even if their owners are risk averse they have enough cold hard cash to swing a couple of first team players before the season starts, such is the vast difference in their revenue (even including the vast difference in their debt).

It's a shitty market, with ludicrous prices. Thing is though, the TV money driving the increase in player fees demanded when an English club gets involved isn't going to go away anytime soon, so you either shit, or get off the pot.

I'd prefer to shit, thank you very much.
