There was value for money to be found. We just didn't.
Maxi for free helps though.

This is the biggest summer in our history. We need at least 2 world class players. We need a new LB, CB, LM, CF minimum and we have very little to come in from sales. Maybe 15m for riera and babel.
It's gonna be wheeler dealer city.

Why is it 'The biggest summer in our history'? What's so big about this summer more than any other?
I would have thought that would be obvious KK.
Our last two summers have allowed United and Chelsea to pull away from us as a big two, Arsenal to overtake us into a clear third place and most alarmingly allowed Tottenham, Aston Villa and ManchesterCity to catch and almost pass us.
We have owners interested only in skimming profits, a manager lost at sea, players grumbling and talking about leaving, fans talking about not renewing their season tickets and a club that is currently JUST ahead of Birmingham in the table but not in the ability to spend stakes.
We need a summer of brilliant spending, perfect luck and probably major change.
That's why it's the biggest summer ever. Get this wrong and the top 6 will be gone for the foreseeable future.

What a fucking irritating post.

A miserable combination of spectacular dimwittery and punch-you-in-fucking-face smug.

Wasn't last summer the biggest summer in our history too ?

I've got little or no faith that Benitez will get it right this summer, he's gotten it too wrong in the past few years.
every summer is 'biggest in our history' pretty much like every week 'is the most important week of the season'

It's fucking depressing to even contemplate the direction we're going in.
Nah. Aquilani will be "as a new signing" "next season".

We were linked to Tevez, Villa ( :🙂) and Sneijder too.

I would think they're having pretty good seasons so far.

Thought it'd be interesting to check on the progress of those were were strongly linked to in the Summer that we didn't end up getting for various reasons. These are the ones I can think of, and it looks like we didn't really miss out on much eh?

Tuncay - 30 games, 5 goals for Stoke. He only got in the team because Pulis fell out with James Beattie, and he's still got a haircut like an unruly bunch of pubes.

Michael Turner - Only Portsmouth have kept less clean sheets than Sunderland. They've been a shambles defensively all season long, and in Turner's benefit he hasn't played in all of them, but 23 appearances is a lot and they've been as solid as diarrohoea. Still, decent player, and might come good in the long run.

David Silva - Quelle surprise, he's been injured. Still, played 20 games and 4 goals. Not much to get overly excited about there.

Downing - How much did they pay for him, 12M? 24 games, 3 goals, and has only started to look anything more than half-decent over the last month or two.

Lee Cattermole - Like Sunderland, started the season off like a house on fire. Then he got injured, and has struggled since. Good player, solid, hard in the tackle, and can play too. Reminds me so much of Steve McMahon it's untrue. He's have helped us no doubt, but is Lee Cattermole really gonna cut it when it gets to the latter stages of say, a Champions League campaign. Look at that Chelsea-Inter game last night, the likes of Cambiasso and Motta would fucking monster someone like him.

...

And people have been complaining about Aquilani and Johnson eh?

Who else was there? That's all I can recall for now.
We were also linked with Cambiasso. I was dead keen personally, but most weren't. I know he's getting on a bit, but he and Mascher would have been a nice combination IMO.

My apologises to KopKing then, it must be pretty awful to be wrongly associated with "that fat, smelly, ugly, weird cunt".
