being an american who latched on to the prem as well I think one thing often overlooked by newbie prem supporters is the history of the club. Orlando, who commented above about becoming a chelsea fan, probably doesnt know that during world war II chelsea fans were supporters of the nazi’s and would sing their praises at matches, and sing extremely demeaning songs against jewish clubs such as Totenham. While im sure Orlando is not a jew, since hes from Belize, i still think its important to know about the club you support and their supporters. I found that info in a book called “how soccer explains the worldâ€. extremely good read for any avid soccer fan.

The old Shed was a notorious meeting place for fascist sympathisers, and during the 70s and early 80s it was always suspected that the National Front and other extreme right groups went there to recruit activists. That's one reason why rumours of Chelsea fans at Heysel went into circulation.

I'm surprised you are surprised. Chelsea, West Ham and Millwall are all well known for their links with the fascist parties in the UK. When I was growing up in East London, not far from West Ham, you would often see swastikas plastered all over the place. Fortunately the UK has done a pretty good job of educating the latest generations but there are still many many older fans (and regular people to be fair) where the racist undertones live on.

Indeed, the vast majority of chelsea fans are normal people like any other fans, also the blaming off Heysel of Chelsea hooligans was really unfair and shouldn't have happened. Our clubs reaction to Heysel at the time was a disgrace IMO.

It would also be wrong to pretend that there hasn't been any racisct cunts sitting in Anfield over the years because there damn well have!!

I have to chip in that a Supplier took me to a Citeh game last year, and they were making hissing noises at spurs fans too.
