...signing Premiership proven players and British based youngsters...

Next up - playing players in their natural positions, marking from setpieces properly and a settled side.

Aces.

We get a "normal and think simple" manager, and everything change to simple.
very obvious.

I was looking forward to this season with trepidation, suddenly a couple of very good signings with promises of more to come, and a raft of linked sales and I'm now keen to see us play and am looking forward to our first game with Arsenal. Hope this 'feel-good factor' it lasts past November.

every liverpool manager i have ever known has ended up doing needlessly stupid things. i think its just a matter of time before roy makes the transition from simple and normal into a fucking idiot

That's the spirit!

Why does anyone care where our players come from?

I only care about how good they are

Just because we've bought some young, foreign dross like Lucas, Insua, Eggnog, Leto, Palleta et al, but also brought young great talent like Alonso and Torres

I don't see any real benefit (other than quotas) in prioritising nationality ahead of quality

I'm not saying it does, but I think it's refreshing and we did need to go back to the drawing board and take a different approach, one which was no-nonsense. So in that sense, I'm hopeful that these signings at least have a chance of hitting the ground running, or showing almost from the off whether they're cut out for it.

No-nonsense = English?

We've been down the high-profile 'Premiership proven' route before, with Ince and more recently the likes of Keane and Bellamy

It's hit and miss

because its one of the things that differentiates clubs. in the champions league its nice if the italian clubs play like italians with italians, and the same with the spanish and french. if you mix all the styles and nationalities together too much it will become very boring and generic.

I meant no nonsense as in no faffing about with unknown foreign players, waiting for them to settle only to find out that it wasn't a problem with them settling in but a problem with them being not very good.

Of course we can sign quality from the continent, I think what we needed though was to try and regain our identity a touch and go back to the very basics of being a football team with cohesion and understanding, and a knowledge of what it means to play for the shirt.

I'm probably just being nostalgic, but after two foreign managers and a mixed shedload of overseas players, who could blame me?

Well he's been to the World Cup and then on holiday and we've signed him on the 19th July. How simple would you want it to be? It's rare we sign two players this early.

He came back from holiday the 18th & flew straight to Switzerland that night to sign the following day.

That's simple Neil.

I can imagine signing his name may have proved a challenge. After all it IS seven letters long..

Yeah, we know which Neil you meant Jon.

hahahahaha. Very good.

I meant proving we are a more attractive proposition than arsenal or spurs, both teams that are london based and in the CL. hey, maybe that was simple to do.

FFS Neil, we're not in CL for the first time in years whereas for Spurs, it's their first time. We still remain one of the biggest names in football even if we have slipped from our former glories. We've actually WON the CL. Five times. And 19 league titles. And have some of the best supporters in the world. That may actually count for something with some football players. Maybe it's hard to understand for us that a modern day football player may make a decision thats not based on money or glory. Maybe Joe Cole IS a genuine person as Redknapp says who wants to part of a resurgence in one of the worlds biggest club. Maybe (and I'm speculating here) him and Gerrard know something we dont

Aren't you jumping the gun a little with the praise? Cole is an injury prone free transfer and Wilson has been on the cards long before Roy arrived. There is a lot more to be done before we start with the cock sucking,
