I think this is an interesting thing to consider. It's recently been on my mind a bit because I'm in the process of starting a new business and one of the people I'm getting advice from was saying how vital she found always keeping in mind some potential future reward for the huge amount of work this sort of thing takes.
It made me realise that there isn't a huge amount that wealth beyond a certain point would really benefit me. That point being, an ability to spend much of my time in a hot country like France or Spain (maybe a third of the time, with the rest devoted to running a business). I think my only real extravagance is cars, so it'd be nice to have enough money to be able to spend, say, £40-50k on one.
Much of the rest I think I could do without, beyond the basics.
What about you? Are there material things you must have? What do you really value?
