Nikica Jelavic - £5.5 Million - Goals since move = 8 goals

Pappa Cisse - £9 million - Goals since move = 11 goals


Suarez + Kuyt + Bellers + Carroll + Kuyt in 2012 have score 19 Goals between them.

Where the fuck were our scouts for Cisse and why the fuck when we watched Jelly did we not take a punt when we knew we were struggling up top, £5 lousy million 😕

Rumours on another site claim we have some decent money to spend this summer, hopefully its true.
 
hmm i still have no faith we'd spend that wisely . We've obviously signed some decent talent down the years but overall you have to say we waste loads and have missed lots of opportunities . Christ i would love for that to change this summer .
 
but actually back to the main topic and scouting/signings in general , i was just reading some nothing article about us being after some benfica winger that they signed for fuck all last season from barca B and now want 15m for . And i was thinking to myself how do clubs like benfica, porto, sevilla ( a few yrs ago) etc always find these players , develop them and sell them for huge amounts shortly after? . Why can't we (and in fairness other big clubs) find them first and skip the part where you pay these clubs insane amounts ?

And you do wonder who the hell our scouts and management watch , i mean we're a load of internet warrior geek fans yet we seem to have a better idea on players out there and who is decent or not . Like when we sign a player i have doubts over (like most last summer's signings ) i usually try and be positive and think the club must see more in them and have an idea on how to improve them , how to get them on form . So when they turn out complete shite like we all predicted it frankly amazes me , i mean what the fuck are these people who are paid millions seeing ? How did they even get their jobs ?
 
We tried to loan De Jong and Castaignos but the parent clubs wouldn't play ball
 
But tbf these smaller clubs have a lot of flops or average players that aren't picked up, its just the ones who succeed are highlighted more.

Of course there are a few who consistently get decent or better players, they clearly have great scouting networks & a good youth development policy. I don't see why these aren't poached in totality by bigger clubs.

And that is relevant how?? If we knew 16 mill for Downing would come of the january budget aswell, I think loads more people would question the transfer. But at the time noone knew.

And we didnt we'd struggle for goals as we have this season when it all kicked off in August.

I'll let you figure out how 20m not spent on Downing might have been relevant in January.
 
I recall Ross being delighted with our summer transfers with only Downing being singled out as perhaps the risky signing. But a big thumbs up overall was given. Shame about the lost data... but I'm pretty sure the something along the lines of "can't see a failure in there" was said.
 
Thats right, you of course knew our budget. Silly me. Imagine if we had signed someone for 10 mill instead. Hindsight eh, trolling gold.

Wait and see, but I don't remember being delighted.

I said none of them would flop really badly, but was dead against Downing anyway.
 
We actually had a good january on the field, and I think that led to the powers that be, deciding that we wouldn't need a striker or two.

ross' suggestions make sound business sense (apart from the manager having no effect on the team which I think is bullshit). for instance ross' suggestion of selling suarez for 40m and spending that 40m on two attacking players of (probably) less quality but combined give more balance to the team and contribute more goals and assists than suarez would have managed alone. however it's a very risky strategy that could ultimately fill your team with medicority.
