Ok so back to the actual player who we should be discussing in this thread. How much would cska be looking for considering he had a good world cup?

According to Wiki he signed for them last year for around 6 million on a 4 year contract. Surely that coupled with his displays in the WC would shoot his value up to more than what we can afford at the moment.

I liked what I saw in the WC and I think he could fit nicely into our team either on the wing or in the support striker role.

I don't think he'd necessarily cost more than we could afford, but he'd probably take up the bulk of what we DO have to spend unless one or more of our top players leave.

I reckon the board will be willing to make a special case of Honda, given whatever he costs can be written off against the huge commercial benefits of buying him.

That said, we'll invariably get outbid.

Is Jap really considered offensive? I know the other one is, but thought Jap was considered in the same light as Brit, yank, etc?

Whilst I think the more common slur in this country is 'Nip' I think certainly in the States it's considered offensive, and if he finds it offensive then surely it would be a common courtesy not to use it?

Having said that, I am quite guilty of using it myself, but then those fucking bastards inva . . .

Oooh, hang on

Arsene Wenger has stated his admiration for Japan star Keisuke Honda following his performances at the World Cup.

The CSKA Moscow attacking midfielder has proved to be one of the most outstanding performers in the tournament, scoring two goals and providing one, despite his side's exit on penalties in the second round to Paraguay.

Honda has been a revelation since moving to Europe, where he joined Dutch side VVV Venlo to become the team's talisman, before making the move to Russia and seeing his reputation rise further in South Africa.
The 24-year-old has already been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham despite only signing for CSKA last December, however Arsenal boss Wenger was not short of praise for Honda, hailing him as the finest performer of the finals so far, in a comment that may prompt speculation of a move to bring him to the Emirates.

"This Japanese team is based on a solid and collective defence in which everybody knows exactly what to do," he told Eurosport.

"When they get the ball they can give it to Honda - and the magic starts.

"When they get that genius Honda playing up front, he had shown what a top class player he is. For me he's the best performer of the competition so far."

AC Milan are close to securing the signing of Japan's World Cup sensation, Keisuke Honda, from CSKA Moscow, Goal.com can reveal.

The Italian giants made an offer of £10.9m (€13m) on Thursday, to which the Russian club responded requesting an increased bid of £12.5m (€15m), and now sources from within the Rossoneri are confident of securing the Japanese star's signature imminently.

"We are very close to signing Honda, the clubs are very close to finding an agreement," said the source. "[Milan coach Massimiliano] Allegri likes him a lot and wants to see him playing alongside [Alexandre] Pato and Ronaldinho."

Honda, 24, has been the subject of widespread attention and admiration for his impressive performances for CSKA Moscow in the 2009-10 Champions League, followed by a superb World Cup campaign for Japan, in which he scored two eye-catching goals.

The forward - who can play as a striker or in a slightly deeper position, and is best known for his lethal left foot - has been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool, Birmingham City, Everton, Atletico Madrid, Deportiva La Coruna and Valencia, among others.

1) **** is not acceptable
2) Jap seems slightly less offensive to me
3) I know *lots* of people who say 'going for a chinky' but I also find that a bit uncomfortable

I think the whole thing about what is 'acceptable' language is so very vague and difficult to qualify, that I'm going to stop there, having been no help whatsoever

So solly!

In general I don't see anything wrong with abbreviations from the correct designations applicable e.g. Brit, Aussie, Jap or if there is an historical acceptable reason for the moniker e.g. Paddy. Tough some people might. The popular shortening of the word Pakistani has only obtained notoriety from the racial slurring originating in the UK.

However the word 'Chink' is not an abbreviation of Chinese as it is regularly applied to all nationalities of a particular ilk and we are all aware of the reason why.
