Sadly, we're both set piece specialists. We just specialise in being crap at defending them.
When we concede a few, I'll throw up if I hear any more crap about there being nobody out there besides Vvd who can bolster our defence.
We need a couple of away goals at least

They'll be diving like bastards and hitting it from anywhere, hoping we get a touch so they can get a set piece or corner, knowing we let most in without putting up too much resistance. Seems to be most teams standard tactic against us now-don't worry about doing too much, just get a shot on target and they let them all in.
I'd drop Moreno, firmino and Henderson to try and win this, maybe bring in Milner, solanke and grujic? God knows

Im nowhere near as confident about getting a good result now after that awful display on Saturday. Milner needs to be put back as LB quick time and its pointless playing Wijnaldum for the away game.

We will get you those goals.

So I guess I'm the only one confident about a European tie with this team then.
I think we'll get a decent result. Will leak a goal as usual though.

When's the last time you were confident of us going away and getting a result in Europe?

Personally, I'd say that it was with Rafa. I didn't fear any team, whether it was Barca, Chelsea or Madrid, I absolutely felt that we could either win or bore them to death and get a 0-0, 1-1 or whatever.

Yeah it was defo the Rafa days.

It was probably the same time I felt confident about Anfield being any sort of fortress too.

It was also during the rafa days was that last time i felt we could grind out a result.

Can, Milner, Henderson and Wijnaldum are very similar to each other; the same pace, same (lack of) vision and similar passers of the ball and none of them make any bursting runs through the middle.
I miss Lallana.

They have lost their two top players from last season, defensive stalwarts Sule (CB) & Rudy (DM) to Bayern. That is a massive weakening of their defence.

I still expect our front three to score st least twice. What we do in defence is another question but I'm guessing 2-2 or we'll win 1-2.

With the away goals rule and our defense I might be more worried about the home leg.

Their season doesn't kick off until the weekend. They are a tallish team apparently, but I expect us to beat them by a goal or 2. Put Karius in goal for away leg, Milner left back, and drop Wijnaldum for anyone.

Ergh, we're at it again.

What? Why? Do you want us to lose?
Clyne Coutinho Sturridge unavailable.

Trent can't play twice in 3 days. Don't trust Mig in goal and Ward is better than Karius, Wijnaldum is dogshit and horseshit away from home. Moreno will always be moreno.

Robertson and Klavan are better options than Lovren and Milner at LB so the only baffling 1 you could say is Gómez for Matip....I'd save Matip for Palace

Trent is 18 of course he can play twice in three days.

My team is ideally a team without a certain sideways passer, but if I'm honest I'd probably start him cause we don't have anyone else.

Far more concerning to me than whether we sell Coutinho, or a dodgy blatantly offside 93rd minute equaliser, or the failure of the board to actually sign our targets etc.... I am worried about Hoffenheim....

CMON THE POOL!!

Kramaric and Wagner will cause trouble for us. They've lost their arguably two best players in Rudy and Süle, but are still a good team. I'd take a goalscoring draw tonight. Will be interesting to see how we cope with their aggressive approach and they're a very very good home team.

3-4 player over 6'3+ could be involved. Hello set pieces.

According to the Bundesliga experts, its a clear advantage to us that their season hasnt started and that their "new" players havent settled yet.

We've played a single game, it's hardly going to be a massive advantage for us.

Klopp has clearly prepared us to start the season fast though (defensive woes aside). Tough matches from Hong Kong to Germany and triple training sessions. We should be the better prepared team.
