We aren't talking about not playing quite as well. That team was top of the league at xmas - this one is three points off relegation.

To blame the squad is absolutely fucking mental.
To disregard the departures of Mascherano, Keane and Xabi Alonso, and to a lesser degree Yossi, Arbeloa and Riera is equally mental.

That was a different team. Making comparisons between then and now is ridiculous.

If managers don't make a different despite playing staff how do you explain bolton's transformation with regards to playing style. The team woke up one morning and decided to play the ball along the ground? How many new players did Bolton bring in?

Riera and Macherrano left under Hodgson. He brought in Cole and Mierelles as replacements. (and he got 20 Million for the 2 he sold).

He used it to buy

Danny Wilson Rangers £2,000,000 * 21.07.2010
Fábio Aurélio Free Transfer Free 31.07.2010
Christian Poulsen Juventus £4,550,000 * 11.08.2010
Brad Jones Middlesbrough £2,300,000 18.08.2010
Raul Meireles Porto £11,500,000 29.08.2010
Paul Konchesky Fulham £3,500,000 * 31.08.2010

Many of the players you list left two seasons ago and yet we finished 7th a few points of 4th, currently we are 3 points off the relegation zone.

Indeed he did, and you can bet we wouldn't be 3 points off relegation if he had continued.
But we would have been angry still if we were trading around 6-9 as there were so many hickups around for us to loose ground early..

And now we accept for owners to be patient until further.. Roy has has done success. he has lowered the demands and expectations beyond the acceptable, and he still can not meet them.. it is fucking insane.

This isn't news. He was never going to quit and lose out on millions.
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think all managers are as obsessed with the money as some make out. I actually think they're mainly stubborn, and think they're going to turn things around.

I know if I was in a job that I'd always wanted, and realised at the beginning that it's actually tougher than I thought, I wouldn't jump ship. I'd keep going and work on it to try and do the best I could. And I reckon most managers, and players, would do the same. The reason they are where they are is because they have the self belief in themselves to get there.

I'm convinced Roy is not staying because of a pay off, it's because he still believes he can do a good job.
it's the money.
I think Gerry has a point over the money.
me too, I was only messing. people are motivated by wanting to be a success and people that are struggling want to turn things around rather than someone else sorting out the mess but money is a big motivator as well.
Money is only a motivator when you don't have it or if you are given a chance to multiply what you have by a magnitude. It's the prestige of managing LFC here and Roy isn't gonna give it up.

For one thing, if he resigns, it's a evidence that he couldn't manage the situation and he'll never manage a big club again. Same reason why Rafa had to be sacked or "agree by mutual consent".
He'll never manage another big club anyway, not (a) at his age and (b) after the way things have gone for him at LFC.

Win the league in 2011-12 and all is forgiven, woy!

To be fair f.a cup this year and or the uefa league and you'll go from from full on turd to little turtle head

I getting quite fed up with Henry and NESV or FSG.

Another bunch of talkers. Sitting on their hands, they are.

Oi, the Sox season is over, start putting some attention into your other assets.

They really are quickly turning a mistaken appointment into a catastrophe.

Hodgson leaves Udinese after criticising club
Tuesday, 11 December 2001
By Gordon Tynan

Roy Hodgson has parted company with the Italian club Udinese. The 54-year-old former Blackburn Rovers manager had been in crisis talks with the club's owner, Giampaolo Pozzo, after reportedly claiming at the weekend that he and his players were not as "well supported as we should be".

The former Switzerland and Internazionale coach, who endured an unsuccessful spell at Ewood Park in 1997-98, only took over at Udinese in the summer after taking FC Copenhagen to the Danish title, their first championship since 1993. Hodgson was quoted in the press at the weekend as saying: "Obviously I'm very happy to be back at this level of football, but I could have chosen a better club to come back to. It's an extremely strange club."

Hodgson yesterday claimed he did not recall making the comments. An official club statement yesterday said: "After the meeting today, Mr Roy Hodgson and the Bianconeri have decided by mutual consent to break the agreement they had in the month of July. The new coach will be announced tomorrow. The club would like to thank Mr Roy Hodgson for his collaboration throughout his time."

The goalkeeping coach, Alessandro Zampa, will take charge of Udinese's Italian Cup match against Parma tonight.

Pozzo had met with Hodgson after the club's 2-1 win over Verona on Sunday. "The club does not deserve those criticisms," said Pozzo. "I am very disappointed with the comments made by Mr Hodgson."

Udinese are ninth in Serie A, five points clear of the relegation places after 13 games. They staged a dramatic fightback to defeat Verona, scoring two goals in the last seven minutes.

Hodgson had been quoted as saying: "The players and myself don't feel we're being as well supported as we should be at the moment but maybe that will change. Nothing that has happened in my time at the club has suggested that we aren't going to be able to stay in this division. I'd like to have another crack at the Premiership. I regard myself as a European, but the great advantages for me going back to England would be the language and the culture. I'll just have to wait and see if an offer comes my way."

It is, but these characters take too much time to make decisions. They should NOT have written off this season.

Not so sure about that JJ.

(a) there's Ferguson and Ancelotti is only 51. Bobby Robson managed till a very late age, same success as Hodgson as well!
(b) if he turns LFC around, qualifies us for CL and maybe win a cup or two then other big clubs (maybe Newcastle standard) may want him.

Not convinced, mate. Ferguson was a lot younger when the Mancs signed him, and surely the fact that Ancelotti is younger than Roy proves my point too. As for (b), let's just say I hope Roy holds his breath till it happens. 😉

This very squad couldn't get into the CL with Benitez, let alone beat Real Madrid.

People need to catch up.

the bottom line squiggs is the squad we have we shouldn't be 3 points of the relegation players. you can argue we have no where near the quality of personnel to challenge for 4th but no one is going to tell me with the quality of squad we possess our correct position is just above the bottom three.

I'm not trying to tell you that either.

Just that we're miles off where we all want to be, and switching the manger is only part of the solution.
but it's the most important part. And the one we need to sort out first. Our new owners are sorted and hopefully all the background stuff can be forgotten for a while. Next step is getting the right manager. After that we'll worry about the squad.

but it's a massive part. you've seen with bolton limited players can achieve much with great direction and you've seen with real that brilliant players can achieve fuck all with rubbish direction.

I'll be honest, I think the players and the manager overachieved when we finished 2nd. We deserved to, if not win the league, but it was obvious we wouldn't repeat that season again unless we invested heavily and made the right signings. Think how many times we won points within the last few minutes, it was a very high percentage. You can't rely on getting out of jail regularly late on, it was always going to get ugly.

Then when Benitez didn't get any back up for Fernando, who we knew was injury prone, and when he chased Alonso out of the club and replaced him with a homesick crock, it was obvious we wouldn't come close to winning the league. We needed to build on the season before and we never. We finished 7th.

We did extremely well to finish 2nd that season with such a threadbare squad, and all the credit should go to Benitez and the players. But equally some blame should go to Benitez's door now for fucking up the next transfer window.

Obviously, Hodgson is shite and deserves the boot and quite high proportion of the blame. But this squad isn't as good as 2nd place, or the CL places for that matter, nor is it as bad as relegation.

The pathetic performances are at Hodgson's door for being an inept manager. The poor depth in quality is at Benitez's door for chasing out quality players, and chasing duds.

You do know the next TWO Tranfer windows we sold more than we bought? Rafa wasn't even allowed to spend the money he had brought in on players.

He didn't have to isolate and sell Keane without replacing him, what was the point in that? He didn't have to fuck Alonso off so much that he handed in a transfer request and replaced him with shite. He didn't have to spend near £20m on a right back when there was so much more wrong with the team.
