Hodgson: I'll never quit Liverpool

4 cup finals in 5 years TWO of the European Cup finals, Europen Cup Winners FA Cup Winners 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 2nd, 7th (missed 4th by 4 points) Sacked, he was shite wasn't he?

I'm not saying he was shite. He wasn't. His mistakes in his last season have helped to compound our current predicament, though, that's all I'm saying. He's a million times better than Roy, but he still wasn't good enough. Neither are.

He got us our best points tally since we last won the League.

He got us to 2 European Cup finals, Fergie took United to two in 19 years, Wenger can't do it, and Mauereen got sacked by Chelsea because HE couldn't do it.

Good enough for what exactly?

Who do you think could do better?

The clue's at the end of your first sentence, mate. I defended Rafa longer than most, but even I was ultimately forced to accept that he was never going to bring the big one home.

Come on, he's not the Messiah. With all due respect, I get that you're a Rafa apologist, so I doubt we're going to see eye to eye anyway. But we were playing some torrid stuff under him towards the end, not far off this at the moment. In fact all through his reign we showed spells of shite. His track record of signing players was very hit and miss, especially when he was given more responsibility in that regard, and we're paying for it.

You may point to Ferguson, or Mourinho's track record with signing players, but let's be honest, they have more scope and leeway when it comes to getting signings wrong. We don't. When we spend near £70m on 4 players (Keane, Aquilani, Johnson, Dossena) we best make damn sure they're worth it otherwise we're going to pay. It seems Rafa failed to do much homework on 3 of those, odd considering how meticulous he is, with reports he hadn't even seen Dossena play! That's unforgivable.

Masterful tactician when it came to tough opposition at times, tended to overcomplicate things against the lesser teams. He never showed signs of ironing this out over his 6 years. Even when we finished second we were still drawing at home to the likes of Hull.

I'd have him everyday over Hodgson, but neither are going to get us where we really want to be and that's winning the league again. I've never experienced us winning the league, I'd love to know what it was like.

With regards to who we could have, then I don't know. Thankfully I'm not on the board. I understand they could be considering Deschamps and he looks good on paper so I'll say him as he fits in with this supposed NESV model. Mourinho's a pipe dream obviously, but he could turn us around in an ideal world.

JJ saying succinctly in one sentence what I tried to in a whole essay. Bugger.

I still defend him, Sky had a fucking Agenda against him, the tinkerer, the zonal marking, the subs, the outbursts.

They never ever said about his defensive record, or Pepe's golden gloves, or gave him Credit for 2 Europeean finals in 3 years, Fergie took 19 Chelsea can't do it, and Arsenal can't either.

Even our own fans still diss him, its fucking scandelous.

He's gone but all you hear was 'he left a shit Squad', but he was prepared to do another season with that squad and a couple of signings.

Anyway Happy New Year all us reds, it CAN'T be as bad as 2010.

Oh no, I agree definitely. Sky fucking hate him. Ferguson hated him. I assume it could be to do with the fact that they both saw him as a threat. No wonder everybody loves Hodgson. I'm not really one for this Sky conspiracy theory but I have to say they definitely had something against Rafa.

He's a good man, a good manager, but he tended to polarise opinion. I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. He's left some good players, great ones, and this team should be nowhere near the bottom of the league. But nor does it have any right to be at the top. I think that's down to the players Rafa has let go and brought in, and more recently the players Roy has brought in.

I take it you didn't read anything I, or JJ, posted then?

Liquor will make you want lots of things 😉

Almost certainly not. I take the points which have been made elsewhere about his motivation being more than just money, but that will still loom large in his thoughts IMO, especially if it's all that's left. If nothing else, his agent will see to that.

Here's hoping he isn't given the choice.

"I am on an exceptionally lofty pole because the club is one of the biggest in the world and that is why when you get the job here you are so pleased you are chosen.

"I will be doing my best during the time I am working here to justify my selection and trying to get the team playing the sort of football we played against Bolton.

"But it was not just against Bolton, I can give you six or seven games where we have played as well as that.

"I can also, with no attempt at modesty, point out we have played 10 difficult games in Europe without even using the bulk of our first-team players and we have reached the last 32
of the Europa League.

"I still see a lot of things positively and my glass is absolutely half full rather than half empty at the moment."

We played one OK half against Bolton. These are the standards the fool finds acceptable

I wonder what he'd say if he actually won a really important game like the CL Cup Final or something.
