Higuain Fancies Liverpool move

[article]Gonzalo Higuain refuses to rule out a Napoli exit - “we’ll talk after the Copa America”.

It’s claimed that Europa League runners-up Liverpool are interested in bringing the striker to England, and have already agreed personal terms.

However, the Partenopei have been clear in the past that they won’t offer a discount on his €94m [£73m] release clause.

Last season’s Serie A top-scorer was asked about the rumours following Argentina’s win over Chile at the Copa America, and was perhaps understandably non-commital.

“I’m only thinking about the national team,” Higuain shrugged, speaking to Sky.

If we get new owners then the transfer fee won't be a problem.

Remember who was linked to buying the club a few months ago. Just after that Michael Owen joined the club and he just happen to be friends through his horse racing with the one that allegedly want to buy us.

Why? Why are you doing this?
Don't do this to yourselves lads. Klopp is in America on holiday with his family. That's his son in the picture.
There's no fucking way we are getting Higuain.
0%.

People who say he's 28 so won't hack it in the prem I disagree he's in his prime coming off an incredible season full of confidence this is the perfect time to come, would we get him probably not unless he wants to play for us, but the likes of city Chelsea arsenal should be looking at this guy he's a classic goal scorer up there with the very best.

List all the strikers in the past 10 years or so who arrived in the Premiership for the first time in their late twenties. See how many were good / good value

You'll see why its a bad idea fairly quickly.

I'll get you started:
Falcao
Shevchenko
Morientes
Crespo

Coming from the Italian league and coming to the premiership at his age he will definitely flop. Plus the amount they would want for him would be a joke. Stay well clear of this one.

Yeah, it's a long and horrible list. Soldado. Casiraghi.

Urghhhhh.

Wasn't Drogba like 26 when he moved to Chelsea the first time around? Dennis Bergkamp, a flair player, also arrived at a rather late stage if I am not mistaken - and though he's not foreign Jamie Vardy is another good example of one making the grade in his later twenties.

So while I do agree that it can be a tough task to enter the Premiership for the first time when you are in your later 20's you will first and foremost have to consider every single player by his own standards.

I am not saying Higuain would be an instant hit - or a hit at all - but I believe he's got a far better build and physique to do so than say Morientes, Soldado or a very old Sheva had. His stats are better too and in general Argentinians are more thick-skinned than say Spaniards or Italians.

But yeah £70M seems too excessive..

There was rumours of home sickness and he was a bit wrecked by injury, but he still scored 23 goals in his first season
Whenever I watched him for City he looked the real deal.

Powerful, great speed and very direct, so without his mental issues (if that was the case) he had been a great hit I am sure.

I don't think anyone is saying it's impossible, there's been a few notable successes - Zola, Bergkamp etc - but I think the reservations are very justified, especially when you add in the financial aspects

But as we've all said a million times about a million different players - nothing is guaranteed, ever.

But reducing risk and optimising positive factors make the 'gambles' pay off more often

Ruud van Nistelrooi from PSV to United when aged 25.

So if you expand the criteria just a tad you can then argue that four of the greatest forwards/strikers in Premiership history were 'late arrivals' in Nistelrooi, Zola, Bergkamp and Drogba.

Oooh and Faustino Asprilla.. or was he perhaps not seen as a success? Thought he was always good against us at least.

The reasons to buy or not to buy are getting increasingly bizarre. Now we're comparing players in their 20's with a 2 or 3 year age gap and discarding those at the upper end. Seems daft.

You may as well expand it a bit further and include Suarez, Torres and Aguero

Point is, quite a few - enough to be significant - players who arrive here with big reps in their late 20s don't justify the money and faith invested in them

Again, if you're richer than Croesus, you can make lots of expensive risky decisions

We are owned by cautious Americans who don't have the money or inclination to do that

I'd much prefer to be owned by Arabs who don't care what they spend, because then we wouldn't have to hope Klopp can work miracles, but that's what is required
