So there it is for all those who insisted if there wasn't a quote, it wasn't happening.

I think the point people were making over the quotes was to do with how we were acting?

Chairman speaks to chairman, that's surely the correct way of doing business. Its not behaving like "cunts", its the correct way to do it.

Now, whether we should be in for him or not is another matter!
Nope, more than one person suggested us being in for Jones was just made up nonsense.

Not having that Rosco. You are one of the ones saying we behaved badly in this situation.

Nobody had any quotes on the entire matter until now, and from those quotes it is quite obvious that we behaved in a proper manner.

Of course none of these different accounts constitutes proof.

The version of events that people choose to believe tends to fall along the lines of their previous bias. Many are fairly quick to believe that the club is behaving poorly.

I wouldn't mind what the hell we did, so long as it was legal, if I thought for one second it'd result in us getting the player we want. Isn't financial backing the issue here?

What is with the mong quoting in this thread?
Good news that we are in talks with another club for a player. I like Jones and think he would be a quality addition to the squad. Surely Purslow isn't in there trying to do a loan deal, that would be a complete joke.

It was very foolish of DB to think that the manager had the right to know that his chairman had been yacking to Liverpool behind his back

No.

I'll be back when Rafa is gone.

I'd stop loving football if I were subjected to four more years of this.

Well time is running out fast to bring someone in.
It looks to me like they are prepared to write this season off completely and not bring anyone in.
That being the case the very best we could hope for is seventh, we will not score goals and Villa will do better than us.
We have gone from serious contenders to also-rans in such a short space of time.
It is a combination of a few things and luck comes into it.
I told everyone last year we were lucky to be where we were and everyone laughed it off and gave credit for great management and attacking football, Rafa won back some of his critics.
This year , we have not had that luck, and in fact, yes, it has gone against us.
We should not be relying on fucking luck one way or the other and taking chances, being a top club is looking at what might happen and making contingency plans.
You would think that as Rafa is such a control freak that would be high on his agenda.
I hoped we might at least try and make a fight for it. If we had brought someone in at the start of the window we could have had them up front last night and it could have made a real difference.
Still, what the fuck do I know, and what the fuck do they care.

It looks that way.

I don't like the idea of spending alot of money to bring in Jones as he isn't very good.
I hope the new manager gets money to spend in the summer.

I'm pretty much resigned to our season being over now as well. We won't hit a Champions League spot nor do we deserve to. We'll be lucky to hit Europa league as Vlad says. The season is a mess and Benitez's refusal to change his system and/or defensive tactics is costing us. It's time to gamble. We have players who cost £20m back in August who, injuries aside, have played THREE fucking games and it's nearly February. Yep we've have had bad. Yes we've had injuries to key players. Yes we've failed to build a strong squad and yes Rafa fails consitently to get the best out of his players.

Benitez will be gone in the summer if we don't hit the Europa league. The knock-on effect of no CL is huge. Attracting top players will be hard as no CL so all we'll be left with is medicore players and we have them in abundance. Getting back into the CL will be harder than lots of people think. It's not a right, it has to be earn. We have strong competition in the league from Chelsea, Man U & C, Arsenal, Villa and Spurs. They seem to be improving (apart from Man U) - we seem to be going backwards.

Nothing bodes well at the moment. The players are letting us down, the manager is too stubborn and the owners are a pair of complete liars.

I do think Gene touched on something in another thread, although knowing Gene he may not have been serious.
The Yanks could well be saving up to give a new manager a big pot in the summer.
It is entirely possible they have taken a decision to give Rafa enough rope to hang himself with, and fuck up the (diminishing) slightly misplaced loyalty and popularity altogether.
If for instance we had Mourinnho with a pot of say £70m + that would negate our fucked up position this year and look attractive to current and potential players. In fact it looks pretty sexy to me.
Part of that plan would be stoking the idea of Rafa to other clubs so he lands a job pdq and we don't have to pay him out of his contract.

What we're doing now with Jones is exactly what we did with Barry. Unless we were never after Barry and it was all made up too.
It's what all big clubs do Ross.

Lescott, Fabregas, Arshavin, Adebayor, RVN, Rooney, Essien, etc etc were all recruited from their clubs by the likes of Wenger, Ferguson, Mourinho, Man City in exactly the same manner.

It's not ethical, it's not even strictly legal, but it happens.

That's an nice, optimistic thought.

Certainly there is no way on God's green Earth that Mourinho would agree to come without having a guarantee of £100m odd to spend on getting some decent players in, and shipping some of the shite out.

Well it's not much but we are after all on a five match unbeaten run (WWDWD). We have even managed to beat two of our nearest rivals to the fourth spot recently.

Don't get me wrong I'm just as saddend as the next man about our Season so far but it's not the last five matches that has let us down.

Our next two games - both at Anfield - against Bolton and then Everton are obviously crucial but can we manage to build on our two latest home wins against Wolves and Spurs we'd be able to move upwards in the table as both Spurs and Villa are facing some tricky fixtures away in the next round - and then face eachother in two weeks time.

Citeh looks to be the real contender but they've been really poor as well so it's not like it's set in stone that they'll win their two games in hand at all.

It's all about beating Bolton and then Everton. Can we pull that off, which I reckon is a very good posibility, we are in a better position than for a long while. Then having the likes of Torres, Johnson, Aquilani, Benayoun and Agger returning to full fitness, would boost our confidence even further.

7th the very best we can hope for? You can't be serious Vlad.

Granted we might get pipped for fourth but there's every chance that Villa/Spurs/Citeh fall away when the pressure mounts - it's been the case over the last few seasons. On the other hand we usually finish strongly.

The two draws were against Stoke and Wolves though that is a big part of the problem. We shouldnt be dropping points as often as we do against sides like them.

I couldn't agree more.

Somehow I reckon there's a bigger chance of us beating Arsenal away than Stoke though. We are really poor at breaking teams down away from home, especially in the scrappy games against giants.
