Henrikh Mkhitaryan

I defer to your judgement on Eriksen, but as for Henrikh, I've only seen him play through the middle. I think like Eriksen, he needs a lot of ground to roam, so a wing position would limit him too much.
I thought he was played on the wings sometimes actually, but perhaps I've mistaken his position due to them playing in a 4-4-2?

He's just looked like a player that relied a lot on his movement and pace, why I thought he'd be great in a 4-3-3 in more or less all attacking positions. Eriksen doesn't hold the same pace. He's got quick feet alright but not what I'd call pacy over 30 yards.

You must be joking, right? There was exactly 1 time in the whole match when he lost possession because of miscontrolling the ball. There was also an episode where a ball bounced off his knee but fell kindly in his path. Hardly Kuyt-esque.

All 3 games studs posted were games Shakhtar lost. In the Borussia away game particularly, they were just annihilated, in part because the long winter break in Ukraine didn't allow Shakhtar players to match the Germans' physical condition.

No, I'm not.

And having a suspect first touch doesn't necessarily equate to losing the ball.

His touch looked heavy on a number of occasions... particularly when he was running with the ball.

A few stats:

Eriksen, 21, Ajax:

Apps 150
Goals 27
Assists 48

Henrikh, 24, Shakhtar:

Apps 90
Goals 35
Assists (? - Binnytime)

Dzagoev, 22, CSKA:

Apps 172
Goals 41
Assists (? - Binnytime)

We can also add Honda from CSKA to that list, Rodgers was following him for a long time too.

Gerrard also doesn't possess the most silky touch - when you have speed and power, a cat-like touch is not required to be effective. And Mkhitaryan is clearly effective at what he does, those stats do not lie. Like I said before, Ukrainian league is very defensively oriented, kind of polar opposite of Holland. For a midfielder to score 19 goals in 20 games in unheard of there. He also has 7 assists, according to transfermarkt.

When you compare somebody with Kuyt, it usually means a player has trouble trapping the ball under pressure - which Mkhitaryan clearly doesn't.

Can you add Honda? Pretty please?

Add Djuricic to the list. I reckon he's the most talented player in Europe.

There are many more options to be had if the AM slot is something we're looking to fill. Eriksen, Mkhitaryan and Dzagoev will probably be the most expensive of the lot.

Done. 🙂 But he's going to Benfica, no?

fantastic stuff - the russian league is stronger than the dutch though, no? The dutch stats would have to be exceptional or much better ( a bit like suarez's) to compare.

Not necessarily stronger, but definitely more defensively oriented (same goes for Ukrainian league, although it's a bit weaker). So the attacking player stats in Holland should be adjusted for "inflation" as they score almost one more goal per game compared to Russia or Ukraine.
