Hendo and Costa smackdown!

Not related to this, but while we're having a Henderson love in his ball to Borini for the first against Villa last weekend was fantastic. It looks like a basic cross, but on the bounce he bent it round the defender into an area the keeper couldn't get it, without even thinking about it. It was a nice bit of movement from Borini, but that is not an easy ball to play.

Back to this incident. I couldn't stop looking at the vine of his stare last night. He looks like he's going to murder Costa. It's fucking brilliant. Henderson is great. I was so wrong about him.

I'm loving this. I want some steel to our game. Not violence but controlled aggression that says, we won't be bullied. People like Costa are flat track bullies. Sneaky to dish it out but when they get it back, they whine like a bitch.

And as Macca says about Costa, if he wants to be taken seriously as hard man, then he needs to drop the gloves. Even then I'm not going to be convinced.

Yep, the long sleeves need to go as well, it ain't that bloody cold.

100% agree with this. I'm trying to remember the last genuine hard nut we had in the team. Gerrard I suppose but I'm talking someone in the Keane/Souness/Viera mould. McMahon maybe???? Fucking hell - That's 25 years of being limp wristed right there!

It's funny because, let's be honest, Henderson is hardly the most imposing of figures, he's such a laid back kind of guy. Shows how 'ard Costa is.

I do love Hendo though, it's great seeing players with that sort of attitude and determination to succeed, actually make it. He's a winner and a proper red.

He looks to me like a baddie in a spaghetti western. Every time I see him I imagine him in a poncho and a sombrero chewing on a bedraggled cigar and spitting black phlegm out of the corner of his mouth.

Proof, were it needed, that David *Prentice looks to my posts for inspiration when writing for the Echo:

Diego beware: Jordan Henderson is a baby-faced assassin! Diego Costa looks like a villain from a spaghetti western, while Jordan Henderson is more the cleancut American Ivy League student type. But could the Reds’ vice-captain have taken the Chelsea hit-man if they hadn’t been separated in the tunnel on Tuesday night? Appearances can sometimes be deceptive. Ask Flash Thompson, who picked on puny Peter Parker in Spider-Man #26. Or Sugar Ray Leonard – once memorably described as looking like a wide-eyed boxing Bambi. But boy could he bang. While Alan Ladd was a cherubic-faced movie star who stood five feet five in his stockinged feet. But he shot down the most sinister man in Hollywood “the low down Yankee liar” that was Jack Palance. Just watch your step next Tuesday Diego!

*Prentice, if you're reading this, and lets face it, we both know you are, if you're going to steal my analogies, at least credit your source. Or give me money via paypal.

I loved Souness. He never needed to talk. He just got on with the rough stuff but with the elegance and flourish of a musketeer. A proper hard man.

Jimmy Case and Ray Kennedy were also silent assassins.

I know what you mean though - A silent assassin would be boss. I'd love it if that was Hendo. Future captain, future enforcer. The Frank Nitti of the redmen! 😎

This is doing the rounds.

His lost long twin..

Why talk when you can break the jaw with no one noticing

Great stuff, but incidentally the caption's wrong. The guy's name was Lica Movila, and it wasn't a tackle - Souey hit him, twice. He'd been kicking our players all night and eventually made the mistake of his miserable life trying it on with Souey, who was already steaming about the treatment he'd seen teammates getting. So he waited till the referee was watching play elsewhere, then taught the cnut a lesson he'll never forget. 😎 After the second leg over there Souey's socks were in tatters and so was the skin on his shins, but he never turned a hair.

They don't make 'em like that any more.
