On my way to the United match the other week I got a taxi with who turned out to be the Chief Sports Editor at the sunday times. He said he had been at the court case in the opening weeks and said he couldnt see a way that Redknapp could be prosecuted at all. He also talked about the defence making a case for Redknapp not being a man motivated by money. Two examples used were:

1. Redknapp writes a column in The Lying Rag. A phone call from his accountant was made to 'Arry along the lines of "I can't find the payment from The Lying Rag for your column, which account are you putting it in?" Arry: "I've not been paid?"

2. Jim Smith, who is managing some lower league team (can't remember who right now) called him up saying he needed 250k to buy a player that his club owner wouldn't stump up. Harry gave it to him as a gift, with no expectations of it being returned.

Painted him in a bit of a different light to me.

Probably not. For a person to be guilty of a crime they generally have to have had the intent to commit it, though in some cases it would be enough for them not to have cared one way or the other.

What's pisses me off about the whole 'has to be english' manager that people keep banging on about is they all conveniently forget mclaren. Iv not heard his name once like he never actually happened. English manager for england after Sven and it just completely blew up in everyones face, didn't even manage to qualify let alone be shit at the tournament. Then when mclaren dropped like a sack of spuds it was well let's loom abroad again, but pay some guy who can't speak much English millions. Has the best win ratio a manager of england has ever had, gets fucked over cos the players are idiots and needed to be entertained like children in south Africa and performed poorly. Then gets decisions made about his team without him being consulted, it's a shambles really. Just wanted to mention mclaren next time people go nuts on has to be English
