Yep. The World Cup is 10 months away and if he wants to be in that squad he needs to leave Liverpool.
Don’t know.
Depends what you’d be happy with - £20m+?
His value would be at it’s highest.
I guess where my head is going with this - is people constantly complaining about the team ageing and us not bringing in younger replacements, while at the same time wanting to sell younger players.
If we accept that our owners are not going to fund a transfer splurge, and we have to fund a rebuild through sales - then we’re not going to be able to do that whilst retaining all our older players, no matter how good they are.
I just struggle to see Matip as a good candidate here - I think we'd struggle to get 20M for him - unless we forsee his fitness is going to go downhill badly and quickly and / or he's going to command really high wages well into his 30s that he won't justify.
If we take each part of the team as a separate unit, the age profile of the defence is actually not too bad.
GK: Alisson (29), Kelleher (23)
CB: VVD (30), Matip (30), Konate (22), Gomez (25)
FB: TAA (23), Robertson (27), Tsimikas (25)
It's midfield and attack that we have problems maginfied by the fact that our squad / bench players are crap.
Midfield: Henderson (31), Thiago (30), Fabinho (28), Keita (45), Milner (36), Jones (20), Elliot (18)
Attack: Firmino (30), Salah (30), Mane (29), Jota (25)
The first thing we need to do is get rid of the dead wood such as Ox and Origi. Milner should roll off the wage books in the summer and we could potentially look at selling Keita on along with other fringe players.
That should give us some money to play with. It's not going to be enough but there is no way we'll be able to plug all the holes in the squad just by sales... even if we sold someone like Salah.
I’d add a suitable right back like in the mould of tsimikas.I feel like if we have a more effective attacker, one more Jota, in place of Minamino and Origi, and one reliable and top-quality midfielder in place of Ox and Keita, our squad would look far stronger assuming the rest remain. I know we need more, but I am talking bare minimum.
My biggest concern is how would the rest of the attackers fare across a campaign when the opposition defense no longer has to worry about the Salah-shaped threat.
If Gomez is sold, that money will offset the summer purchase of Konate. There is no "money in the kitty" for Salah.
Bloody hell, is Milner really on that much money? It would be £75,000 toward it, Milner another £140,000 and the Ox another £120,000 that's just wages a week
Salah's on £200,000 and wants £400,000
I just found £335,000 a week
At present it is VVD who is the top earner on £220,000 Pre Week
YepBloody hell, is Milner really on that much money?
Thing is average salary for a midfielder/forward in top 6 is not that far off 120k now.
It’s just how the market is.
Did you say Social Media?I have read on social media rumours of Newcastle coming in with a £60m package offer for Gomez? Wow.

I thought it was a joke until I googled it.I have read on social media rumours of Newcastle coming in with a £60m package offer for Gomez? Wow.
He'd be a smart signing for them honestly, I'm still baffled to how he's fallen so far down the peaking order here, but if he's really not going to reclaim his place, we'd be mad not to try take advantage of the Newcastle situation. He's young, experienced, a premier league and champions league winning defender, we are well within our rights to demand a lot of money from Newcastle, and they're able to pay it.I thought it was a joke until I googled it.
Yeah but Milner is a 36 year old squad player, no way should he be getting that. Is he really going to go to another club and get a better deal? I sincerely doubt it
