Oh fuck me - Neil's got a new Babel

I thunk it's more to do with kenny rather than playing at left back
bit of both, he was shite last season too, defensively.

thankfully he didn't get punished for that block , he didn't really disguise it well . Boswinga caused him some moments of trouble today but yeah overall he's playing much better of late. Question is can he keep that position long term so we don't need to look for a left back in the summer.
He's been excellent since moving to left back, fair play.
One negative point though - he was fucking lucky not to give up a stupid penalty in the last few moments with that barge on ivanovic.

i loved it when in the other game Gerrard got tangled up with pantsil and the first on in to backup the captain was Johnson, great team ethic I thought.

the weird thing is he has improved defensively since moving to left back, which doesn't make a lot of sense but who cares?

He has yeah, though I'd never really noticed but he's very two footed, like an argie (eh Glock?).

yeah being two footed has definately made the transition easier. finann was two footed as well. if glen makes the position his own then the money we save on a left back can be spent on a winger. a daft push aside I thought glen was excellent.

i'm guessing the reason he has improved his defending at lb is because he needs to concentrate more on his positioning as he is unfamiliar with it?

yea thats exactly it and well done to Kenny for giving it a go

and when he gets comfortable on the left we can always stick him back on the right or in midfield

The two-footed thing isn't really a surprise though, when you think how often Magic used to come inside off the right wing and shoot effectively with his left peg.

Nor is his defensive improvement. When GH stuck Carra at LB, initially as an emergency measure, his positioning immediately improved and he was no longer leaving the gaps between himself and his CB that he had over on the right, where he tended to look mainly downfield rather than across the line. I think Magic's benefiting in exactly the same way.

This.

But he's got rid of the need for a left-back anyway

Kelly was a bit nervous today, but this was understandable.

Maxi was the most dodgy though. I would have preferred Aurelio next to Lucas

Magic was decent at hitting shots with his left peg but he is learning to pass and cross with it too. Plaudit to him for improving.

Its the haircut!

I think capello has a bigger decision on magic than kenny

Kenny will keep him on the left but will capello keep him whilst he does not play there for his club and with Kelly due an international cap, Maybe even this week

johnson could always cross left footed. I need to dig out some movies but this definately isn't something he's just aquired.

hopefully he drops the both of them.

He has been beyond reproach of late since his switch to left back.... not complained about losing his favourite position and done a very very good job.

He's deserved the slagging he has recieved so .... fair play Magic.

Glen Johnson is a world class wing-back. Glad to finally see him finding his best form yet again.

I think it would mean pretty much to young Kelly to play...

He looks to me to have so much more potential than he delivers on... as if good coaching and more practice would see big improvements.

He's average right now but seems to have the attributes to be very good. This isn't a scientific argument, just an assumption.

Any chance of him challenging Cashley for englands left back position?
I think maybe if he killed him and ate his liver or something. I forget how you get other people's powers, I haven't done it for ages.

Have to eat their brain I think mate.

Glojo is not going to be replace Ashley Cole and he shouldnt do so for England.

I maintain that his massive improvement is because of Kenny rather than being played left back.
There was a lot of tension between him and Roy after comments in the press about how he was below par, and then he wanted to leave.
