That's probably what Foxworld understood to be happening from this thread.

He's probably texting all his mates now 'Kerry Katona replaced Rick Parry @LFC, u heard it 4m me 1st!'.
The words 'Foxwold' and 'understood' are strange bedfellows. Its akin to seeing Jordan with Gareth Gates.

I think it's more relaxed as the reason Johnson deal is delayed, is because he is on holiday. The Echo seems to think he'll have his medical this weekend, and it certain that he has made up his mind.

And regarding Barry, we pulled out of that deal, so why phrase that as losing out on a transfer target.

Mascher and Alonso have long term contracts and Rafa wants them to stay. The only reason I'm not that fuzzed is that we're sitting with all the cards. I think only one of them will leave, if any. That will give us plenty of cash and probably a player in return. A good player aswell. Toure + cash for Mascher would be a good deal i.e.
We "pulled out" because we were beaten to the punch. Are you trying to tell me Rafa didn't want him ?

I think we were put off by his wage demands, and the fact that he didn't want to play anywhere else than central midfield.
Of coure Rafa wanted him, but not at all cost

Wouldn't it be funny if Kerry Katona replaced Rick Parry?

she has gone to the dogs but her breasts are still epic.
Well that decides it then, let's sign her up.

We could have the "That's why inbred, ignorant skanky hoes go to Iceland Anfield Arena" as sponsorship.
Thats simply not true Ross. We didnt pull out. We matched the offer and for either money or assurances of playing time he opted for the Mancs.
I think its wrong to spin it as losing out. Barry made his decision.

So we spent a year chasing him, then didn't sign him ?

That sounds like losing out to me.

It's likely we did miss out on Gareth Barry this summer. I think the club (and everyone) were surprised at how quickly City moved to secure their man.

Pity - he could've been great here.

I do find it surprising that those who previously got so upset at us missing out on targets because of a relaxed approach to getting the i's dotted and t's crossed haven't made any complaints in this thread.

If two of our best players were looking to get out and we were in danger of missing out on our second transfer target of the summer ,despite being in pole position, under Rick Parry they would be ranting and raving.
Parry failed enough times to warrant the criticism when he wouldn't pull his finger out and get on with it.
Seeing as this is the first summer in charge for Rafa, we're not going to suddenly jump on his back for what's not even a failed attempt yet.
So it's one set of standards for Parry and one for Rafa.

Same as ever
Ridiculous eh?

Though obviously it's early days and we can't really comment until we do or don't get players, it's Rafa's responsibility now, yet people are still trying to avoid facing the fact that ultimately it will boil down to him and he'll be judged accordingly.

What in f**ks name has Benitez got wrong now?

As far as I'm aware we didn't get an opportunity to meet with Barry, yet we apparently made an offer that matched Man City's. Sounds more like our offer wasn't accepted by Man City and given that we wanted to spread the payment over the course of the contract (as clubs normally do) while Vity being cash rich were happy to pay the fee upfront. They also offered Barry higher wages than we would have and probably offered him the captaincy as well. So much for a desire to play Champions League Football. No Benitez' fault, nor Parry's nor Ayre's and probaly not even the yanks.

Doesn't seem to be a problem with Johnson either. We've seemingly had a bid accepted, someone's matched it and Portsmouth are probably at least oblidged to accept and inform the payer. He hasn't signed anything for anyone yet. So what's the problem there?

Besides, I thought the transfer window didn't opne again till 1st of July so no new signings could be finalised until then? Maybe I'm mistaken.

well, there's no denying the irony of moaning about rick 'I'm on my holidays' parry and then rafa 'why are we so slow' benitez doing the same cunting thing when given ultimate power over transfers.

Errr...not sure mate. Haven't Arsenal signed someone properly already?

so without trawling through 40-odd pages, does anyone know if were actually gunna be signing Johnson, or is he still deciding between us and Chelsea?

Not sure, I know there was always an official date for players to sign, you could agree in advance I guess and sign the contract but a player wouldn't be officially registered with the club until the 1st July, and players wouldn't (usually) be unveiled until after then either.

It's a bit meaningless as business is obviously being conducted now, but I think it's always been that it only becomes official from July 1st.

That's the way it is on Champ, so it must be true!

I was trying to avoid putting that! Only coz it was my source of info 😉
i think its the european transfer window opens on the 1st, but transfers between english clubs can happen from the last day of the season, which would be why weve already seen Gareth Barry in his Man City trackie.
