Girondins de Bordeaux

There’s probably something in the middle. One of the lower/midtable sides in those top divisions could get in and around the European spots with the right direction.

Yeah, but we probably don’t want a team in and around European spots because that’ll cause conflict of ownership problems - I’m sure there’s ways round it, but we’re kind of sticklers for playing by the rules - unlike some other multi-clubs proponents.

For City it’s just marketing for Abu Dhabi - I don’t think they’d actually care if they ever produced a decent player and you’ll probably find that half the City squad are “paid consultants” at a handful of CFGs other teams to get their inflated salaries off City’s books.

What Chelsea are up to, fuck knows - I think Todd Boehly has a bad case of oniomania.

In Edwards defense I wonder if FSG tasked Edwards with exploring the deal with Bordeaux. They picked us on cheap close to administration and they might have wanted to do similarly again. It smacks of Lizard behaviour.

Oh dear. The second para.of the blurb describes him as "another attacking option" and, while we're on the subject, "Bienvenue" with an "e" on the end is what you'd say to a woman, which clearly no-one's bothered to proofread (or it was given to some pimply youth who doesn't know his Rs from his elbow). As ringing endorsements go, it isn't.

Not bad. I saw us win there under Rafa, with Crouch scoring The only goal.

Nice away trip. Met some good lads. A mate got sucked off in an alley, and an irish lad we shared rooom with never paid his share.
He probably thought giving your mate a blowjob was payment enough!

No Jules, thats not correct. "Renfort de choix" is an expression that means "a very good addition to the squad or reinforcement"
and Bienvenue with "e" is correct, even for a man.

Sad times at Bordeaux, relegated in the french 4th tier and now signing A. Carroll...

Admittedly I did my degree in French and German many years ago, and I appreciate that French is one of your first languages, but what you say surprises me. When I was learning the language (including five visits to France) the expression "renfort de choix" wouldn't have had the extra meaning of "very good" that you give it here, but would have been a neutral term not denoting any great quality. Also I would most definitely have been marked down for writing "bienvenue" in respect of a man, for which "bienvenu" without the "e" would have been de rigueur. When did the Académie change that - or is it perhaps a Swiss thing?

We certainly agree about the Girondins though. Two of my French trips were to Bordeaux, where (despite the standoffish rep which the Bordelais have within France, or had at that time) I made some good friends, I saw the Girondins play live and they've always been kind of my French team.

I am surprised your knowledge of French is so extensive as surely they were speaking Latin there when you stayed.

How the heck does he communicate BTW? Plenty of French folk speak English (if they can be @rsed) but how many speak broad Geordie?

I’m not sure Andy Carroll ever evolved past grunting as a means of communication anyway.

Didn’t realize they were in 4th division - what happened?

Mixture of shit decisions and financial mismanagement. Last I heard Gérard Lopez owns the club. He was involved in the Lotus F1 team having to be sold to Renault. He was also involved in Lille being poorly ran, and had to have a forced sale. Their problems started well before Lopez got involved but his track record wouldn't give me with much hope. He does seem to have kept them from folding, though.

So if Edwards buys them, Andy Carroll will technically become our player? 😉 Comeback for the ages!

I doubt this will be a surprise, but given how pissed he was at Brendan insisting on signing Benteke against his recommendations, I suspect Edwards wasn't too keen on Carroll the first time around. But Damien Comolli and Kenny were calling the shots then, Edwards was just an analyst at the time.

Wish it worked out for Carroll with us. I always enjoy a behemoth striker, laying all in his way upended.
