Gerrard to Rangers?

Hopefully Gerrard watched that shitfest today and saw how far a team with half the budget has to go to catch Celtic.

It will be 10 years before they compete again.

I guess it’s a bit like the Neville thing at Valencia - hard to turn down a big opportunity even when you know in your heart of hearts that it’s a bad move.

Hope he can prove everyone wrong but it does seem like a crazy risk.

The difference is obvious that Gerrard has been working as a coach the last year while Neville went straight from playing to the pundit role?

He was part of England’s coaching team, which says fuck all, but he did have a tiny bit of experience.

I worry for Gerrard. I think it’s a shit move.

How do you judge the intelligence of a person you have never met? Or, have you met him?

I'm always intrigued by this. As, I can never tell unless I have a decent enough conversation with a person. And, even then, you get more than the odd curveball.

Nah, he's fucking thick as fuck.

Well yeah. Donald McRae and Henry Winter ghost wrote em.

In utterly unrelated news my mate ghost wrote a book by Howard Marks and only got the deposit. Cunt ripped him off for 15k.

And while we hijack the thread even further, he met Marks in a pub in Oxford, who turned up with one page of scribbled notes and asked my mate to turn that into a book. My mate was all like, this is nothing, it hasn't got a decent plot or any characters, at which point Marks admitted his mate had done the scribbled page and he hadn't actually read it himself.

The Rangers job is a career wrecker - and their fans (not all obviously) are amongst the worst I’ve ever come across.... self entitled, aggressive, bigoted, brain dead arseholes (and I’m a Northern Irish proddie).

Glasgow is also a shithole.

It's like French Ligue 1 situation (of cos + the history and rivalry) in that nobody genuinely expect a close title challenge, isn't it?

Everyone can see the gulf (esp. in financial strength) between Celtic and Rangers. Including today's defeat, their last 8 H2H reads Celtic 6 win, 2 draw, +18 GD.

The new manager will be expected to win against the other teams (and finish a 'comfortable' 2nd) which is more than fair given their wage expenditure (which is 3 times that of next closest team, Aberdeen). Play good football, show fight in derby matches, win the odd domestic cup (for a start), bring through some academy players, make some shrewd signings, show signs of progress etc.

I think how successful Gerrard can be is heavily dependent on the DoF Mark Allen. Vvd £2.6m, Rogic £400k, Wanyama £900k, Dembele free transfer - fee wise and range wise (Belgium lower division, Australian league etc.) that are not totally out of Ranger's reach.

Morelos for example was signed by Rangers last June for £1m from the Finnish league and linked with £8m+ move to Chinese Super League in the previous transfer window (just 6 months later). Celtic's recent signings having been exactly 'intimidating' too: young loanees like Roberts, Musonda, Edouard and domestic captures like Hayes and Hendry. Copying Celtic's move of bringing in talented youngsters from the likes of Chelsea, Man City, PSG will be a good start (which, given Allen's previous experience as Man City's Academy Director should not be a difficult task).

... Play good football, ..

This bit isn’t true - “good football” has always been more of a Celtic thing.

Rangers fans expect their players to commit high acts of thuggery on the pitch and kick the living shit out of anything that moves in a non blue shirt - particularly if they’re Catholic.

When Rangers were dominating Scottish football in the 90’s - their hero’s were Souness, Terry Butcher, Graeme Roberts, Terry Hurlock, Ian Ferguson, Gattuso, Stuart McCall, Charlie Miller, John Brown, etc.

Souness was our manager in the early 90's. No wonder he did a shit job if he put in extra shifts up there..

He joined us in ‘91 - although, to be fair, by that time Rangers fans were glad to see the back of him.

Unfortunately he decided to bring too many shite players from Scotland with him.

4 derby's = 12 points..

3 have been played 1 draw and Celtic won the other two..

As things stand they would only needed to have won those two they lost to be Top..

In fact a draw in today's derby would then put them on course to win the league..

Except as today showed they are light years away from beating Celtic consistently, 5-0 before the hour.

Celtic have been in 1st gear all season. Even if by some miracle Rangers starting winning old firm matches Celtic would up their game elsewhere.

Scottish football is shite. It’s equivalent to the evo stick vanarama north west counties league or something.

I've been told this is done & dusted & Stevie has already asked the club about the possibility of some players coming on loan.

Dunno how true it all is but it's a decent enough source.
