"I have tried to reach him to make clear I am happy to talk with him at his convenience."

I still can't quite get over that.

I think you're reading too much into that Keni. All he's doing is making clear to the player, through the press, that we want him, so the pressure is on Masher now to come out and tell us what his intentions are.

Masher's on his holidays, so I guess that's why he said 'at his convenience', I doubt he's publicly bending over backwards for the player.

It is shite when your boss is trying to contact you when you're on your holidays though.
Yeah, that line bugged me too.

The interview is quite revealing.
1. Roy spoke to Torres briefly about football matter and congratulated him on winning the WC. He didn't ask for a commitment because either he accepted that Torres will leave or honour his contract.
2. Purslow is the money man so he can most likely tell Torres about future plans and transfer funds.
3. We have not received any bids for Gerrard and Roy is confident he will stay.
4. Mascherano is a cunt and is looking to engineer a move away.
5. Roy has realised the enormity of the job.

I have no problem with contracted players wanting to leave but they must do so on our terms and our agreed price. If they don't want to fight for our shirt, move on. I would rather have a honest team of Carra's than a skilful team of mercenaries!

I'm not reading anything into it. It was just embarrassing.

Sorry I'm with Rawk and the SOS bellends on this one.
That's a horrible interview. 'Ask Christian Purslow' 'I havnt received any assurances' 'I was obliged to leave'
Christ!
Where's it say that? I've read the fucking thing three times & can't see that anywhere.
Watch the whole Ssn clip. It's fucking horrible and shambolic. I'm not getting all silly about it, but it's frayed a few nerves for me.

I for one like the honest approach by Roy, even though it's quite the opppsite from Rafa.

As for the Mascher comments, it just shows that it's up to Mascher to make a move. The club doesn't want to sell him, and he has to request a transfer if he wants to leave.

As for the holiday thing, Roy is our new manager. A phone call wouldn't do much harm for Javier, just to speak to the new man. If he wants to leave, then the sooner we find out the sooner we can replace him.

Hahahaha
Have you read any direct quotes from him? It's been all his agent like last year. But yeah, he is leaving. Of course he is, but he has yet to publicly state this after the WC. Thats what the line is all about.

There's been surprisingly little rumour or paper talk in Italy on the subject apparently.

Maybe Masher and his agent are closeted with Barca somewhere.

You're being a schmuck!

Barcas transfer kitty this season is apperantly 40 mill £. They've spent 10 of those today on Adriano. They're not loaded this year Barca.

I wouldn't mind selling him there, and maybe taking a few players in exchange + money.

Oh for fucks sake man! Has he said anything recently about demanding a transfer? Thats what I'm saying. Of course he'll leave. We all know it, he's hinted about interest from both Barca and Inter. But I'm yet to see a quote with "I want to leave". And you're being schmuck yourself in this thread.

Jews have such great words, don't they

'Schmuck' sounds exactly like it means, is that onomatopaeic, or is that how a word looks? That works too, mind you

*shrugs*

There seem to be a lot of "Sch" words in Yiddish meaning "idiot" or some such - Schmuck, Schlemiel, Schmarotzer off the top of my head.

Up, up and oy vey.

That's a shame Oncey, given that you do both quite well
I don't think so. I'm stupidly optimistic at times but I rarely ignore facts and pretend not to understand things in order to keep my head in the sand. And I'm very rarely wildly negative. I don't think anyway.

That wasn't great. Mainly in relation to the Mascherano thing. I think people are misinterpreting the "obliged to leave" bit - that was because he had to fly to somewhere else.

I'm starting to hate Mascherano.

I think people are reading more into Hodgson's words due to the paranoia which is gripping LFC fora. Not knowing Purslow is regarded as 'the snake', an innocuous comment is being misread. He had to leave, as he said, because he was rushing to catch a flight to Switzerland. It wasn't like Purslow ushered him out, so he could have the *real* discussion with Torres.

That's my sober (though not literally sober) take on it.

EDIT: I see Gene has similar thinking on this.

All it takes is .. 'hola Mr Hodgson nice to meet you, i'm all yours for the 2010/11 season, see ya bye'.

Oh well..

Fair enough mate. I'm not trying to be overly optimitic or stick my head in the sand either. I was just pointing out something, but it in the end it doesn't matter. He'll leave, and thats fine. Out of Gerrard, Mascher and Torres, Javier leaving is fine if the other two stays.

But fuck it, I'm fed up discussing such negative things, and thats probably because thats all we have been doing for the past year. It's doing my head in that nothing good has happend for such a long time.

I'm going to have a cold beer and celebrate my daughters first attempts to walk on her knees, which were quite successfull. Have a good evening mate, no cheap shots intended or name calling for that matter.

That's how I read it, too.

It wasn't particularly encouraging, but neither is it worthy of all this hysteria.
I'm not sure there's been any hysteria. It's disquieting is all. It's not a good interview.

I quite enjoy ignoring facts, myself, it's fun

Anyway, I don't think this really proves or discounts much, and only reinforces most of what we knew about Woy, Cecil and Masher anyway

I will agree that it's not particularly great, though. In many ways.
