Gaston Ramirez

He has got quite an agent hasn't he?
From Man City to Us to Spurs and finally to Southampton.
Watch him become a superstar now and we can all blame Dimish for not getting him

Have Southampton been taken over in recent years?

How have they got that kind of money to spend?

I have to say, I went pretty cold on this guy after hearing the BBc's South American expert's take on him as lazy, and having it confirmed in his games in the Olympics.

I'd much rather have the Morrocan lad I only knew existed yesterday.

Madness. £15 million, spent wisely, could possibly keep them in the division. £15 million spent on Gaston Ramirez is a criminal waste of money.

what a random signing, thought he would have been alright for us if we signed him, nothing special, but he'll be great for southampton

Think they are getting ahead of themselves. Spending money on him when you know there is a strong possibility of being in a relegation battle is stupid. Money wasted imo.

He's not the type who's gonna dig in deep when the going gets tough. If he does go there then he's only doing it in hope to advertise himself to other clubs.

Ramirez told Corriere Dello Sport: "They believe in me in every way... and above all I have said that they are going to grow. Southampton is a newly promoted team in the English top flight, but they have the means to stand tall in a few years. And with me they are going to build. It's all very stimulating. Even if it is a little strange."
The 21-year-old scored eight goals in 28 apperances in Serie A last season and revealed that he was offered a deal that was too hard to refuse.
"The truth? I think so, yes, this time," he said when asked if he was about to leave. "Bologna have reached an economic agreement with Southampton. There are only a few details to sort out, but they have found the agreement in principle, and the English club have reached an agreement with me.
"It is an offer that you cannot refuse. They will give me so much money (€2 million net per year and more than €1 million signing-on fee)."

Agree on that completely - who knows maybe city, chelsea, or united will one day buy him to add to their bench decor or use him as a channel to tap up suarez.

Hahaha. He really knows how to woo the fans, doesn't he?

Agree. No newly promoted team should ever spend their whole budget on one star player unless your name is Manchester City or Juventus.

For one thing, he's not going to gel with the rest of team who slogged their way out of the Championship.
For another, if he's willing to join you, he's not worth 15 million...
And of course, he could be shit / injured then ...goodbye Premier League.

Kudos to him for telling it how it is. You shouldn't hate on a guy because he accepted a good offer.

Ah! Thanks Binny.

So there is a bit of money behind them. It's still a pretty mad extravagance for a newly promoted side. It'll be interesting to see him in the Premiership though.

Yeah, but they haven't really been splashing the cash on signings, perhaps with the exception of Jay Rodriguez for £7m. Probably felt Ramirez is a caluclated risk. Having spent £7m on a striker who is not proven in top flight football, £11.8m is not that expensive for a player who is still only 21 and already has 2 season of Serie A football under his belt.

The story of Gaston Ramirez’s transfer to Southampton takes another twist, as Bologna President Albano Guaraldi refuses to let him go!

The €15m deal to take the Uruguayan prodigy to England's South Coast seemed a formality earlier today, with the player himself saying there were 'only a few details missing.'

But Guaraldi has made it clear that he sees the situation very differently.

“Ramirez is contracted to Bologna and the club will decide upon his future, not the player himself,” the patron raged.

“Ramirez’s behaviour is totally unacceptable, giving open interviews like that without consulting us. Gaston cannot force my hand with two interviews.

"I am a serious person and I've already said it will take €20m to sell him. And I also told his agent.”

This is not the first time Ramirez has been in dispute with the Rossoblu over a potential transfer, a similar situation having arose last summer.

The 21-year-old has been linked to Manchester City and Liverpool in the past, his potential move to the newly promoted Premier League side coming as a huge shock to most observers this morning.

The agent of Gaston Ramirez claims transfer talks with Southampton have broken down and that it is unlikely his client will now be heading for England.

The Saints appeared to have pulled off quite a coup when they agreed a club record fee with Bologna for the highly-rated forward.

The Premier League new boys were prepared to part with £11.8million for the Uruguay international, who has been interesting some of Europe's top clubs.

It would, however, appear as though they have been unable to complete a notable capture, with financial troubles at Bologna posing a problem.

Ramirez's representative says the Saints have now turned their attention elsewhere after failing to reach an agreement.

Oscar Betancourt has also sought to distance the 21-year-old from reports suggesting Tottenham or Liverpool could step in.

"The negotiations with Southampton have ended," he told calciomercatoweb.it.

"I have spoken today (Wednesday) with the English club's chairman and they are looking at another target.

"Bologna didn't want to close the deal without the bank guarantees.

"The player was very happy with the offer received, but now he will probably remain at Bologna.

"Tottenham is an option to be rejected at this time because they are a long way short of Bologna's demands.

"Liverpool? They have never presented a concrete offer."
