Front 6 depth without Suarez

Or two strikers/attackers who could bag 10/15 goals over the course of the season, which I'm sure is feasible with a £50m outlay.

I reckon Borini could get 10 for us myself, so that's a fair whack left to spend on someone else if Rodgers thinks the same.

I like Borini, but if Suarez goes we're losing that ability to conjure up something out of nothing and to grab a goal out of thin air, we need someone special to do that. He might chip in, ala Kuyt, but with this squad, that would equate to being pretty much a solid squad player.

For me, relying on Sturridge as your main man up front is a risk.

Suarez carried that front line, and Sturridge - even though he got 20 odd goals- still played second fiddle.

You can have all the number 10's, attacking mids, and quality wide players you like - but you still need someone to lead the line well and score a fuckload. For all City have got in midfield, Aguero's still the absolute dog up front. And on the flip reverse, Spurs did fuck all without a great number 9 last year.

I like Sturridge, he's really good, but he's not Suarez - and I'm not convinced an array of sexy attacking mids and him will cut the mustard.

What last season reminded me was the pricelessness of quality goal scorers. They can win you games out of nothing. You can play like shit for 90 minutes and still walk away with a win, because you have players who are just brilliant at putting the ball in the back of the net.

I still think it's a pity we didn't go for Remy instead of Lambert. I reckon there'd be a lot fewer people fretting about getting a replacement striker in for Suarez if he was the back up to Sturridge instead of a very different (but still good) player like Lambert. Sanchez would then make much more sense as an all-round top class attacking option without having to be the out and out centre forward we'd ideally like.

This comparison of Suarez and Sturridge got me thinking about the different "tiers" of strikers in football now. This is how I see it at the moment:

Tier 1: "Genius" Messi, Ronaldo, Ibra, Suarez.
Tier 2: "World class" Neymar, Falcao, Aguero, Cavani, RVP, Lewandowski.
Tier 3: "Top class" Sturridge, Pedro, Higuain, Benzema, Sanchez, Diego Costa, Müller, Dzeko, Negredo, Immobile etc.

Obviously we can't replace Suarez with anybody from Tiers 1 and 2. We're lucky to have already one Tier 3 forward (and if we sell Suarez we can possibly buy another). Remember that half of this year's top 4 in England don't even have one...

I like your tiers! But, we should remember that No one would would have put Sturridge near this list when we bought him. And, Suarez was maybe a "Top class" forward when we bought him. Maybe.

As a club, we will still need to develop the highest level of players. If we sell our genius, I would be quite happy if we bought two "top class" forwards in Pedro and Sanchez (as rumored)- giving us 3 total - and hoping one of them can progress to the next level.

I actually think that would be very, very good outcome from the whole affair.

Pedro isn't Tier 3, maybe Tier 4 but then I'd not classify him as a striker myself.

Share similar sentiments. For example, Cavani's breakthrough came at Napoli (scoring rate at Palermo was something closer to 1 in every 2-3 games) while Lewandowski was a signing from Polish league (who could've move to Blackburn instead!). Immobile's scoring rate was 1 in 7 games for Genoa the season before last. Diego Costa never scored more than 10 goals a season until 2 seasons ago.

Unfortunately, at this moment, I don't have enough confidence in our scouting staff and/or transfer committee to identify such talents (at reasonable prices, too).

Origi?

I guess the consensus so far is that if Suarez goes, option 4 in the stikers list should be another solid or exciting striker, like Remy or Muriel. Even if we manage to buy Sanchez. Right?

Right. If we're cashing in on Borini and Aspas too then we should have plenty of cash to fund such a purchase.

In a lot of the reports from a month or two back they were saying he would be a target if Suarez were to leave.

Isn't Sanchez more of a striker than a winger, though? Personally I'd think he would probably be enough as as Suarez replacement, along with Lambert (would have preferred Remy, but anyway).

I'd rather we spent money on a right back and a goalkeeper.

I think you should have realised by now that neither of those positions are under consideration for this Summer at the very least (from Rodgers comments last season and LFC's known targets this window).

If Suarez leaves i hope we panic and buy Tevez fron Juventus....we need a nutter like that.

Seriously we need a forward who can play at that level....

Dzeko from City may be?

I have realised that. I just wish they were being.
