Alisson : "It was an error of decision that I had. The pass that I received wasn't that good.. me and Virgil talked about it in the dressing room.. but I also had total condition to throw the ball away but went to try to keep playing to keep the possession. Obviously I won't be stupid to make the same mistake again. We need to learn from our mistakes. The dribble is part of my game but I will not be arrogant enough to say that I will keep doing it. If it's necessary, the dribble always need to come as a last option.. unfortunately today it caused the goal.. and I think it was even a foul but we can't hold ourselves to it, in the premier league not every collision is a foul, in my opinion it was.. but it's part of the game. We can't give any chance to let that kind of thing happen in the field."

Fair enough from our keeper...

Quoted from NBC Brasil

I wondered about that. Whether he's used to tackling like that being a foul in Italy. Where any contact on the goalkeeper is basically deemed a foul and allowed him to do stupid Cruyff turns like that.

In the PL, you'll never get those given. So it's good he knows that now.

He shouldn’t bring vvd into it. He had a chance to clear but fcuked up. Hopefully we don’t see again but I wouldn’t bet against it

I wish we had a Gary McAllister circa 2001 in the squad. Somebody who can come on and just bring some composure and intelligence to our play when under the kosh. Not convinced Hendo is that man.

The Nigerian lad kinda bundled him over actually. There wasn't really a tackle for the ball, he pushed Becker and took the ball. It could have been a foul.

Not taking anything away from the stupid decision to play it in that situation though.

RAAAAAAAATINGS are a bit tough after games like this - we won right?! - but it was a slack, sloppy and silly display at times. Leicester had the better of the entire second half, and also had the best player on the pitch, the impressive Lallana-esque Maddison (except with more end product).

But while there was much to criticise, it's also only fair to say that we still won without our best players being anywhere near top form (that's you Salah) and also gifting them a ridiculous goal (that's you Alisson).

I suppose we do now have to start worrying that while 'winning games without playing well' is indeed the cliche of choice for potential Champions after that sort of game, it's also true to say that you can't win the title without playing well more often than not playing well.

Alisson (3) Yeah, 'apart from the mistake' he played well, and yeah my desperation for us to finally have a keeper who isn't a cunt and a liability means that I still really like him, but that isn't a normal sort of mistake. I don't care if you play like Lev fucking Yashin for 89 minutes, if you make a spazzo fuckup like that, you've cost us a goal and you get a 3.

Virgil (6) Some vital headers and clearances, but moments of careless play that disappointed, and his pass back to Alisson wasn't the best either.

Gomez (8) Won everything in the air and on the deck. Didn't play many bad passes either. Our best player and has had a quite superb start to the season. Well played. Again.

Robertson (7) So positive and full of running. He worked his socks off up and down the pitch and created yet another goal with a typically determined burst forward. Had far fewer attacking options in the second half as we ceded control to Leicester, and by his usually stellar standards this was a bit below par.

TAA (6) Was given a proper working over, which limited his more attacking instincts. Seemed to lack a bit of power and flagged at times, which is strange, but never gave up. Will have better days.

Henderson (4) After a positive cameo, it was no surprise to see him start, but it was a less than average performance, as he passed slowly and without the guile and accuracy we needed. Couldn't get near enough to the dangerous Maddison and allowed him to run the midfield. Never seemed to know quite where to be, or what to do.

Wijnaldum (4) Played in a more advanced role, but did nothing of note, as the game passed him by entirely and he faded into the scenery like an effete ghost trying to eat biscuits quietly; you could sort of tell he was there, but he avoided any direct interaction, just quietly munching away on the spectral plane.

Milner (6) Another assist, and threw himself into challenges with abandon, but he struggled to impose any control, especially in the final 30 minutes, as he ran himself to a standstill. Seemed a little confused positionally too, but that was partly due to having to cover and track too many players.

Mane (7) Usual extra point for the goal and was our best attacking outlet, with some good movement. Never the most cerebral passer though, and also struggled as the game went on to get really involved.

Salah (4) Still seems leery about taking his man on at pace, and too often turned into trouble, or picked the wrong option. Missed an easy chance early on, and never looked like he was going to score.

Firmino (6) Point for the goal, and I can't ever give a striker who scores a goal less than 6 anyway, because that's his fucking job and he did it, at fucking last. But he looked even less pacy than normal - and he's never been quick - and he also lost possession so many times it was infuriating. Has not started the season that well, but hopefully he will improve. And also carry on scoring.

I can imagine the ref thinking the same thing. Usually, 50/50 calls go to the GK, but it he was asking for trouble and the ref properly (I believe) gave the benefit of any doubt to the attacker.

I under-rated Milner's performance :

Milner topped Liverpool's standings for distance covered (12.47km), touches (81), possession wins (nine) and blocks (two) in a typically all-action performance.

Klopp was spot on about Allison - the other players need to see him as just an option and not always the solution.

It was a strange game. Leicester were more urgent and aggressive than I expected, they played well, but we looked like we'd had a training session about an hour before the game - very sluggish, mentally and physically.

I'd rather we played shite and got 3 points (as long as there are no injuries or red cards) than some of those moral victories of recent years when we dropped points.

I think overall - we played well. We really should have had this game wrapped up at halftime, and the only way they scored was the gaffe.
I'll take it - 4 wins in 4 ... We haven't played that well in any of them, but what I'm noticing is bar city-huddersfield, no team really has played that well either. So the key now is getting as many points as possible and once we kick into form, catch up on that 25 point gap from City.

4 wins down, 34 to go.

That was a terrible performance today from start to finish :-

1) The passing seemed slow and predictable

2) Henderson - I agree with most that he has qualities that provide stability but for every one good pass he does there are 10 other's he does not attempt and instead passes back. I noticed for England, and now us that when he has the ball - all the other players are making runs (especially TAA) with loads of free space but he never passes forward to them.

3) The second half in this game and the past two games - it feels like the game against Spurs at Anfield last season (2nd half). We just cannot make two straight passes in midfield or show any ability to keep the ball. Also the fact that again a 32 year old player looks the best in our midfield raises questions of improvement in that area this season.

4) The front three - I see problems in them, they are not looking for each other in the same way they were last season. Salah - looks really bad in possession and the cool head seems - well gone. Something tells me that all of them are trying to live up to their records from last season. Klopp needs to have a word with all three - and say - guys "It's about the fucking team".

5) Alisson - what can I say - bad decision to do that shit but looking closely at the highlights - he was actually tripped/fouled before that guy got the ball off him.Still - massive fuckery by him on a grand scale. At least Karius fuck ups were just fuck ups - this was an .. intentional fuckery fuck up.

I actually think we are going to struggle after the international break against the big sides - I have seen nothing that suggests we can be title contenders - I don't hold the high hopes you all have of Keita making the grade on the level some suggest, and although Shaqiri showed some game intelligence when he came on - I still think we are a creative player short in midfield. That midfield trio we started with - it was just workman like - we needed someone like a James Maddison in our own team to wizz the ball around - you can have a Gini+Milner/Henderson - but you need one that will make shit happen and retain possession against opposition press - we have NO ONE !!!

Also anyone who wants to debate that the other top teams are not doing too well - I think the difference is - they are dominating their games despite their struggles. We on the other hand are struggling for long periods in the wins we have had so far.

MORON

P.S - Gomez - how fucking good is that kid ? - TAA got a lot of praise last season - much of it was over the top and we are still talking about his struggles, but Gomez in his current role - WOW !!! fucking awesome.

This is exactly how I saw it. We were comfortable defensively, and the only way they scored was through our keeper having a brain fart. We would've seen it out no bother. Can't recall them having any decent chances really. Perhaps only the Gomez block.

"Terrible performance from start to finish" - utter bilge. But what's to be expected from Moron? I don't read your posts in their entirety anyway, but I'm thinking about blocking you altogether.
That's just mean bro.

A very honest opinion of what I saw today. If the team thinks it will get away with this sort of performance against the likes of Spurs, Chelsea, City, United and any other side that has the ability to press us with decent established front men then we will be shown up badly. I am delighted we won - but you have to wonder what would happen if they had pressed us from the start ? that game was not easy for us - we were defending for most of the game - barely strung passes together after about 30 minutes into the game and for nearly all of the second half. If you saw something different then you are welcome to enlighten me - then again don't bother - just block me.

In fairness we were sensational for 0-20 mins and from 40-45

Yeah, I'm not reading that.

Leicester City 1 Liverpool 2: Match Ratings

by Ben Johnson | Sep 1, 2018 | 1 comment

I TELL you what. They fucking love Kasabian in Leicester, you know.
Like not just love them, proper freedom of the city shit. Like these are gods among men. The gods of the middle. Gods of skinny jeans, and silly sideys. The gods of pork chops. Fair doos to them.
Any road.
They lash them on full whack, noise pollution levels to create an atmosphere and clap along with some silly fan things. I don’t know what this fucking place is about, you know. But what I do know is that them fucking Kasabian mings were ringing round our lads’ heads 20 minutes in and didn’t go off until the end of the game.
We were shite, we won 2-1, is fucking right. Play something we can dance to, bellend.
Alisson: 6
Makes a great save and clutches one out the air when they fancy a goal first half. When he ran over to our end I wished I had an emoji button that I could press to turn my eyes into hearts. Hang on. Fucking hell, he’s just been tackled in his own box. Fucking hell. Lad? Was Si Mig, the evil genius controlling him there? Si Robot, the AI master? Robocop him, lad.
Trent: 6
Tried a bit of silliness with the ball when we went bananas first half for a bit. Thought he was poor today for the first time in a long time.
Virgil: 8
Immaculate there when everyone else bar him and his partner went to absolute shit for 20 first half. Had a whacky 10, including a shite backpass that led to their goal.
Joe Gomez: 10
Best game for The Reds, by a mile. The goal-saving tackle was sublime, but he didn’t put a foot wrong.
Andy Robbo: 8
Not at his best but better than most. I like that one. Showed bottle, and grafted like anything. Like his mates, wasn’t the best on the ball but like his mates there wasn’t a lot of options on when he had it.
Hendo: 7
Great first half when we were boss. Looked knackered there second half though, and couldn’t impose himself on the game. Wasn’t the only one.
Gini: 5
The Reds were great first 20. Almost perfect. Then Gini gives one away and we go to shit for the rest of the game. And for that, I’m out.
Milner: 8
Thought he was the vice man of the match, there. Ugly toes in, ugly boss challenges, sneaky time wasting, what a fella. Made out of rock.
Sadio : 8
Might end up with more goals than anyone this year, you know. A hero. Not all heroes wear capes. He had one on under his top.
Firmino: 6
Weirdly shite while being effectively effective. Thought he was absolutely last but then he scored. Thought he was absolutely last but then on 96 minutes he legs Harry Maguire, and his massive big mattress head, and makes him lash it out. I’ll be honest, I could have cuddled him, there. Proper cuddle, mind you. Head right in, there.
Salah: 7
Made some poor choices. But then, in fairness, we all do. I once ordered a prawn salad in a steak restaurant for fuck’s sake. I was starving.
SUBS
Shaqo: 7

Come on and absolutely barrelled his way to keeping the ball for The Reds. Go ‘ed, you mad little fucker. Get to ours.
Naby: N/A
Come on, didn’t he? Don’t like that song, you know. Don’t think it tracks right.
Matip: N/A
Come on and I nearly cried. Not sure why.

Interesting stats over the first games games. Salah will not stay at 10% or Mane at 40%.

Salah v Mane

Goals 2 v 4
Assists 2 v 0
Shots 19 v 10
Chances created 13 v 6
Goal conversion 10.5% v 40%
Goal conversion last season 22% v 14%

I hope that throw-in coach concentrates for a bit on Trent. He seems almost paralysed when he's taking throw ins - go to throw quick, stops, looks around, looks left, twitches, looks ahead, twitches, looks rights then left then centre, nearly throws... In the short term I think his best bet is to throw it as soon as he can, before he can think himself into a trance.

Usually we end up talking about the front 3, but against Leicester our back for played as a unit. Yes Gomez was good but Gomez and VVD played like a unit with our FB"s.

I'm not overly arsed about our performances tbh.

That sounds a bit mad, but I think we're collectively guilty of forgetting just how poorly we start seasons due to Klopp's aggressive training in pre season.

Players always look leggy, half a yard off match fitness & nowhere near as sharp as usual for the first few matches.

You'd have to assume that due to the WC a fair few players are having that training now too, alongside having to play, so this season it'll be even more apparent.

If it carries on top long & starts to cost us points then it'll be something to worry about, but for now I'm prepared to weigh the relatively poor performances against their future benefits & just be thankful we've still managed to get maximum points from four games & only concede one goal in the process.

Like everyone else, I hate International breaks, but I think this one has come at a great time for us.
