Fuck me we did that the hard way.

On the positive we have 4 wins, we are top, Firmino has got off the mark, Sadio continued his early form
, Gomez and VVD are getting better and better as a partnership and Shaqiri looked sharp off the bench and played very intelligently.

On the negative we conceded a rediculous goal, could have thrown away 2 pts, we completely fell apart in CM, our from 6 looked knackered after ht, Keita offered nothing when he came on. Klopp left it too late to make the changes.

I feared we didn’t strength enough in the summer and it felt like it today: Hopefilly Keita gets up to speed quicker as we badly need better in CM. Such a shame Ox is out and Lallana can’t stay fit.

Could have done with Studge for the last 5.

Thank fuck for the international break where hopefully we can prepare well for Spurs and be fresh.

Allison 4
TAA 5
Gomez 7
VVD 8
Robertson 8
Milner 5
Henderson 5
Gini 5
Firmino 5
Salah 5
Mane 6

Shaqiri 7
Keita 5

Blimey. Keita has been ace since he’s been here. One average sub performance when the rest of the team are naff and he needs to pull his socks up.

Henderson, Firmino, Salah, Alisson get 4's, the rest 5/6s with the exception of Gomez (9), Milner(8) & VVD (7)

I think people were being overly harsh on Virgil in the match thread. Yes hes overhit the backpass to Allison and put him under pressure but the decision to try and overplay it was all on Allison. Gomez made the flashier more notable tackles but VVD made interception after interception all through the second half, he was excellent. The defence was let down by a midfield the folded under pressure and couldnt keep the ball.

Gomez MOTM.

Allison was having a good game before the fuck up and Klopp will be slapping him with his dick now. Happened and we didn't drop points, that's got to be the end of it.

The rest look a bit below par, but this is our best start for nearly thirty years, so not moaning

VVD was good, he wins balls that no CB we've had in a eons has done, we just look far better with VVD, assured and in control.

VVD has been huge for us. It'a unbelievable how often he came through with a huge clearing header when we are defending an injury time corner.

Virgil was great, especially after the goal.

Gomez was top class throughout though. Clearly MOTM.

Alisson 1 deserves nothing more for that howler that put us under the pump
Trent 5 bang average and was often found lacking against Chilwell
Virgil 6 imperious as usual in the air but kept just hoofing it out of play. When we were crying out for foot on and some composure he was one of the worst offenders
Gomez 8 couldnt have done much more.
Robertson 6 felt a bit headless chicken at times to me and was all to Moreno reminiscent.
Wijnaldum 4 not his finest day.
Milner 6 was great until the last 20 minutes then fell apart
Henderson 5 back on the bench for you
Salah 4 doing my fucking nut in the lad loses a point for that unreal greediness
Mane 6 faded and jaded at the end
Firmino 5 kept trying. But not suceeding. At all.

All subs 6 slightly above average.

Maddison by a dillion miles the best player on the park. He finds some space that kid.

100% I’d love to see his game stats.

He seemed to clear everything from what I saw.

Thought he was amazing.
Gomez is a great partner for him. That block reminded me of Henchoz at his best beside Hyppia

We do love a self combust

Hendo and Gini away from home is a recipe for disaster

Brainless the pair of them

Right now we are only 20 points behind city.
I know they could extend that out to 23 again at 5.30, and I am well aware that if we really wanted to challenge for the title we would have more points than 12 so far, and probably should have got Mourinho in summer, but fuck it thats not too bad!!

20 points lads!! This is doable.

Tough fixture and the wrong time of the season for us and our notoriously heavy training early in the season. Not a great show, but a great three points

Could have done with Studge for the last 5.
Why ? He's hardly a player that hold it up in the way Firmino, Gini or Salah can. I thought the subs were OK but I'd have taken Firmino off (he lost a lot of possession) and moved Salah central - his passing and thought process was awful today but he clearly frightened the shit out of them.

He actually is great with the ball at his feet and Firmino was done.

Allison 6 - marked down a full 1.5 points for the error that would lead to a goal that we all knew was coming but we all prayed it would not cost us points so there's that. Otherwise he was damn good again. He really does position himself very very well.

TAA 5 : He wasn't at his best but still did OK up against Grey and Maddison, two of their best players.

Gomez 8.5 MOTM : He was awesome. Those long throws are a new quiver to the bow and bloody hell are they long, to or slightly beyond beyond the penalty spot !

VVD 6.5 : Didn't seem quite right all game, yes he won headers but not with his usual power and distance, they often went up more than forward. Some sloppy passes too. That's a 6.5 by VvD level though so that would be an 8 for most other CBs.

Robertson 7.5 : Excellent first half but danger was coming in from his side in the second which curtailed some of his forward runs and he wasn't at his very best in covering them.

Milner 6 : a bit quiet by his standard. He was closed down a lot. Still gave 100% and helped us to see the game out without undue worry.

Henderson 5 : He didn't add anything to our play and was often by-passed by Leicester's slick passing in midfield.

Gini 5 : Clearly off his game. Didn't expect this after three fine performances.

Firmino 6.5 : Leicester had clearly targeted him as the pivot for our attacks and he was brutally closed down with often 2 or 3 players forcing him to cough up the ball, which he did - a lot. Great header though for which he gains a half point !

Salah 6 : Yes that was a bad miss (why go for the keeper's near post when the other side was gaping ?) and yes he should have played in his team mates at least twice (once in each half) which would have put the game to bed. However he clearly had them shitting themselves whenever he was on the ball. I'd have moved him centre and brought Firmino off using Keita to play through to those three.

Mane 6.5 : started great but this was a quiet match by his standards. Another goal though which is worth a half-point on his rating !

Shaqiri 7 : I thought he did quite well when he came on, holding onto the ball and helping up run down the clock.

Keita 6 : Brought on to regain control of midfield, which we did leading to Leicester making substitutions to win it back (they failed to). Didn't see him in an attacking sense.

As good as it is to be 4 from 4, we haven't really "won" any points we didn't win last year yet though. Our first test of that will be next game against Spurs (away). Win/Draw that and we'll be points up on last year's total.

Did we win at Leicester last season?

Have to say I only remember the defeats there, even so this season is all that matters and 12/12 from the games we’ve had is impressive.

Arguably all 4 finishing between 8-12th

Are we papering over the cracks or doing what great teams do 3 points while not playing well

Alisson : "It was an error of decision that I had. The pass that I received wasn't that good.. me and Virgil talked about it in the dressing room.. but I also had total condition to throw the ball away but went to try to keep playing to keep the possession. Obviously I won't be stupid to make the same mistake again. We need to learn from our mistakes. The dribble is part of my game but I will not be arrogant enough to say that I will keep doing it. If it's necessary, the dribble always need to come as a last option.. unfortunately today it caused the goal.. and I think it was even a foul but we can't hold ourselves to it, in the premier league not every collision is a foul, in my opinion it was.. but it's part of the game. We can't give any chance to let that kind of thing happen in the field."

Fair enough from our keeper...
