When do you think we might get an update regarding the case? Are we talking years?
Potentially. It's significant that Everton have had a hearing and neither City nor Chelsea have even had one scheduled.
I believe Everton's hearing was a consequence of them having to self-report a breach, so the process was quicker and the hearing itself is the means by which an investigation will take place. Essentially with Everton it's kind of accepted that they breached, and the arguments are about mitigating circumstances and the extent of any punishment.
Chelsea will potentially follow a similar process, but their breaches are historic so it will likely be slower as old evidence will need to be interrogated again.
Same goes for City, although they have been charged, but my take is the charges were to cover everything they might be guilty of, rather than based on a hard belief that they're guilty in all counts. But because they are not co-operating and, seemingly, are trying to get off on a technicality via the courts, it will take years in their case.
So I expect Everton decision this season, followed by a decision on charges against Chelsea (possibly this season) and then City sometime way off in the future.
EDIT - I'm not sure the press revelations about Chelsea should muddy the waters in their case, I expect the PL was already aware of the stuff that's come to light (the revelations about Eto'o and William had already been mentioned in the press and the other stuff in the Guardian article is fairly small in value, but may indicate a general scheme of diverting agency fees which would require further investigation). As I mentioned above, the tax authorities are likely to be more interested than the football ones.

As far as Citeh are concerned, they've been taken down this route before. They hire a battery of the most expensive lawyers and snarl the whole thing up every possible way. So yes, years - lots of them.

If true, this is the season they take the hit. They can make up 4 points on Luton in the remaining games.

Everton get a 12 point deduction and still don’t get relegated.

Chelsea get a 1 season transfer ban after they’ve signed everyone on the planet.

City get fined a few million quid which they’ll pay with money found down the back of their couch…. Having paid someone more than the fine to search for money down the back of their couch for a laugh….

"A senior executive at one top-flight club told the Guardian that he was becoming frustrated with the length of time it has taken to investigate alleged breaches of financial rules by rival clubs. He said any punishment meted out to Everton was likely to be seen as a signal of how severe penalties at other clubs could be if they are found to have breached the rules, but said that the case “seems to go on for ever” given that the club is only facing one charge."

I'd guess this is one of the relegation candidates as they seem to be focused on Everton, not City or Chelsea.

The Guardian has now published an article on the third party ownership allegations against Abramovich. It's not good for him or Chelsea, but there are no household names in there so it won't get much traction among the gerneral public. This may be just down to the nature of the leaks - a lot of the discussion is about players who went to Limassol and Maribor, and none of them really made it to a high evel. There may be others in bigger leagues as well, most likely clients of Pino Zahavi.
There were rumours that Chelsea / Abramovich had an interest in Lazar Markovic, for example, but nothing was ever proven. Which is a shame as we might have tried to force them to take him off our hands when we realised how shit he was.

[article]Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has completed the takeover of Portugal's Rio Ave.

Marinakis has poured €20.5m into the club.

The money will settle the club's debts, provide transfer funds for the January window as well as help with improvements to Rio Ave's stadium and academy.

Helping facilitate the buyout has been super agent Jorge Mendes.

Marinakis has been the owner of Forest since 2017 and is also in charge of Olympiacos.[/article]

New domestic media deal announced. £6.7bn over 4 years. Current one supposedly £5bn over 3 years.
So annual value basically the same.
BUT - more games in the new deal.
Not saying the bubble is about to burst, but the growth in domestic PL media has been pretty slow for a while now, and this effectively represents a downturn.
They're spinning it as biggest ever deal, but that's only because it's 4 years and not 3.
No doubt our Sky subscriptions will be held static as well...

The number of commercial subs are down as pubs are closing left and right all across the UK. A pub could spend between £20-30k to show footy games (along with other sports, but no one really goes to the pub to county cricket)

All games outside of the 3pm blackout will be live.

Last round of 3pm blackout? So 2030 season onwards I'll predict all games will be on UK TV.

Just in time for Turkish football to go into meltdown after a referee is physically assaulted by a club president. Oh dear how sad never mind.

Agent fees: Clubs spend record £702m for international deals in 2023

Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich for an initial £86m in August
English teams account for almost a third of a record $888m (£702m) spent on agents' fees in international transfers in 2023, says a Fifa report.
The figure represents an increase of 43% on the $623m (£493m) spent in 2022 and surpasses the previous record of $655m (£518m) from 2019.
English clubs were the biggest spenders this year with $280m (£221m).
More than $1m (£790,000) was spent on agents' fees in women's football for the first time.
The Football Agents in International Transfers report says there were a record 3,353 international deals this year.
It excludes domestic transfers such as Declan Rice's £100m move from West Ham to Arsenal and Moises Caicedo leaving Brighton for Chelsea for £100m.
Harry Kane left Tottenham for Bayern Munich for £86m and Jude Bellingham joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund for £89m.
The report shows clubs in Europe accounted for 87% of spending on agents in 2023.
Clubs in the Saudi Pro League spent $86m (£68m), with Karim Benzema, Sadio Mane and Riyad Mahrez among the players to move.
South Korea had the greatest share of outgoing transfers, with agents involved with selling clubs in the K League making up 32% of the total spent.
Women's clubs spent almost $1.4m (£1.1m) on agents in a record 125 transfers.
Legal dispute over capping agents' fees

The Football Association has published the details of a tribunal which has ruled that its plans for new regulations to cap agents' fees would be in breach of UK competition law.
It had planned to introduce the rules, which closely mirror new Fifa regulations at international level, in October, but a legal challenge was made by four player agencies, resulting in arbitration proceedings.
The FA has indicated that it will hold off implementing the cap to allow further discussions to take place with the agencies. The tribunal report said it reserves the right to make a final decision on the plans if no agreement can be made.
Fifa later said it has "already scheduled a meeting with the Football Agent Working Group to discuss the outcome of these proceedings, among other topics, and will communicate the next steps in due course".
The world governing body's rules have also been challenged, with a district court in Dortmund, Germany, granting an injunction preventing certain aspects of the new regulations, including the cap, being applied to any deal where any party - such as an agent, club, player or coach - had a link to the German market.
In the summer, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) indicated its backing for the Fifa regulations, saying capping agent service fees was "appropriate" to combat the "negative effects" of agent services

Blimey. My NFL team, the N.Orleans Saints, are 27th on that list and they're still worth more than even City.
This explains why. They are twice as profitable
