Flops of the tournament.

People are being too harsh on Given. Yes, he had a couple of howlers, but he made some brilliant saves too. Not a great tournament for him, but hardly "flop" worthy?

One thing you could say in RVPs defense is that the service to him was absolutely putrid.

Not in the first game he had loads of chances, to be fair he did score one cracker though in the second game.

I would say Wesley Sneijder, I cannot remember the last time I watched him and thought - wow he is worthy of his reputation

UTD can have him

It's what I expected from the irish..

Am sure you did like many non Irish, but we usually do much better in tournaments than people expect. Usually we play better than the other home countries, but not this time. All in the past it seems.

To the Irish lads, is this performance down to so many of our players no longer making the top teams in the Premier League? Or down to the fact the coaching is NOT what it should be?

Sneijder was fantastic in the Netherlands first game.

van der Wiel - going into the tournament he was touted as the next big thing and on the verge of going to Chelsea, now they've turned their noses to Debuchy.

Look at the Irish players who are actually playing regularly in the Premiership:

Given - coming back from injury / past it
Dunne - coming back from injury / past his best
Ireland - not there
Andrews - alright
Coleman - not there
Kelly - not used
Duff - past his best
Gibson - not used
Hoolahan - not there
Whelan - shite
Walters - barely used
Wilson - not there
Delap - not there
O'Shea - played.
McClean - barely used
Long - not given a start
Cox - used incorrectly, not good enough anyway
McCarthy - not there
Ward - played, shite
Hunt - not used
Doyle - played
Foley - not there.

We were never going to do that well, but there were better options left on the bench and left at home than the ones that featured for a lot of the time.

Although Given wasn't great, he was let down by the rest of his team as shown by the amount of shots at his goal below. It also didn't help that it was pissing down, awful conditions for a 'keeper.

Shots on target:
Croatia - 5
Spain - 20
Italy - 17

What disappointed me was that of the 9 goals conceded, 6 came from set-pieces or a header. That is dreadful for a team that were solid going into the tournament 14-games unbeaten, including 11 clean sheets.

Like I mentioned back then I would've taken this team, and in hindsight I wouldn't change my mind about any of them.

I've been impressed by Cassano's tournament performance thus far.

For sure.

While Di Natale & Balotelli have been in & out ... Cassano has started every game.

Could have easily had more goals this tournament.

TBH I think he's been playing his best football for Italy right now than he ever has.

Szezchny (sp.?) had a nightmare tournament. If we make a team of flops, I think both Cech and Szezchny get ahead of Given in goal.

Shirokov and Arshavin were very poor in the last 2 games for Russia. Zhirkov was directly culpable for at least 2 goals.

All Netherlands team has been terrible, but I would select Robben, RVP and Affelaay as the biggest flops. Danmark's Eriksen was absolutely invisible. Perisic of Borussia Dortmund had a poor tournament for Croatia, lost his starting place as the tournament progressed, came on as a sub against Spain and did nothing.
