being a journo must be the easiest job in the world.
no qoutes from torres.
no qoutes from chelsea.
no qoutes from LFC.
just pure speculation and supposition. fuck wanting to be a fireman when you are a kid you should want to be a journo, easy money.
Yep. And you don't even have to know how to spell 'quotes' because there's a sub-editor to correct all your mistakes.
well, quiet. 😛
You missed a good opportunity there Neil 😉
you mean sentences shouldn't start with 'and'?

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

There's nothing wrong with sentences beginning with "and", or "but" for that matter. Some might prefer not to write it or read it on grounds of style, but it's not a grammatical mistake.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

Chelsea want Torres, and will make an offer for him this summer

What's this thread about again? It's not new news

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

I actually now feel quite ill about our club. I didnt think there was a chance in hell he would leave but who can blame him if he does.

Ive got this shitty feeling that Rafa is staying and therefore Stevie and Nando dont want to stay. I can see Masher leaving too after WC if that happens.

This really could be something which will change our club forever.

A player of his calibre deserves to be playing at a better football club.

I said recently that I think he could be tempted to play for another English club, and I stand by it.

I wouldn't hate him for leaving, although it would be a horrible day.
You wouldn't hate Torres for going to Chelsea?

What the fuck does that mean? That's stretching the limits of being philosophical about football support.
We finished 7th.

I think he genuinely loves the club, but if he feels we're going nowhere - which is very much possible - and the club receive a huge bid, then I could understand if he left. He's 26 and has won fuck all so far in his career at club level; I don't expect him to stick around in the same way Gerrard has.

He's not to blame for the mess the club is in.

Does every transfer that happens fulfil that criteria? Of course it doesn't.

You think he genuinely loves the club, but he'll abandon it in its hour of need when he's the player who can help it more than any other?

Liverpool have brought Torres' career, recognition, and brand to a whole new level. We have a bad season, he says thanks for buying one in a long line of shit pandering ghost written books, I'm going to fuck off now, and you think, well, he genuinely loves the club, so I can understand his position. Of course it's understandable, but it's asinine to think he loves the club if he does it, and it doesn't cause me to shrug my shoulders and think, what an adroit career move from an ambitious young man, because we desperately need Torres.

the way I see it is torres left AM to challenge for stuff, they were his boyhood club and yet he left them, the emotional tear must have been huge. I don't think torres has that emotional bound with liverpool, at any rate we'll soon see.
if he does leave though all his sound bites will seem very hollow

The way some are going on, anyone would think that this bad season is but a minor blip that should be put to one side. The worry for everyone connected with Liverpool is not how shit things have been this past year, but whether they'll continue to be as shit or worse in the future.

If it's looking as though we're fucked for next season, what do we desperately need Torres for? A 7th placed finish again?

You can genuinely love something that isn't right for you or doesn't fulfil your dreams. Gerrard probably knows a thing or two about that.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

Any player thats wants to go can go, get a good price for them and try and sign someone better, i only want players who want to play LFC to play for us, how we meant to get through tough times like this ? with players who are willing to fight for the shirt not ones who don't want to wear the shirt

You can't be serious. From the club's point of view we need every bit of quality we can get or keep hold of, in order to get as high up the league as poss, especially if things don't look like improving during/after the summer. Nando himself may see it differently, and it'll be understandable on one level IF he does, but like others I'll think less of him if he can't give us at least one season to try and come through the current mess.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

Neil's point is a poignant one. If he left Atletico - his boyhood club - why wouldn't he leave us? I think he'll be at us next season. After that? I'm not so sure.

I wouldn't expect him to move to another English club, but our luck's that low that it will probably happen.

Re: Chelsea confident over Torres

If he goes I think we should hold our for at least 2 years interest payments for him

FERNANDO IS NOT FUCKING GOING OK ?

I hope not like. Just brace yourself for it, themn. It'll hurt less when it happens.

If he goes to City or Chelsea, like I've said umpteen times recently, I'm done with football.

If, and it will be the largest "if" in the history of the known universe, if my lovely Fernando leaves me us this summer, I shall grow my finger nails long, piss in glass jars and kick tiny dogs hither and thither, about this Isle.

I've changed the title here so we can keep all of the summer's rumors of El Nino leaving in one thread ... Let's hope they stay just that ... rumors:

Fernando Torres will be the subject of a world record bid from Chelsea within days.

The total package of transfer fee and salary will make Torres a staggering £130 million investment. And Soccernet has been informed that owner Roman Abramovich is personally taking control of the project to bring the Liverpool striker to Chelsea.

Torres has been linked with Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid for a some time but the Blues will be first to make a concrete offer.

Abramovich is ready to release the cash following a Premier League and FA Cup double this season, but he is also acutely aware he could cut an alternative deal with Liverpool in need of new players.

Chelsea are willing to offer three players in part exchange, as an option to smooth through the Torres transfer.

Abramovich is also prepared to match City's expected offer to Torres of £200,000-a-week, which is being mooted via the middle men now authorised to try and clinch the deal.

An insider told Soccernet: "Torres is the best, and Roman wants the best. He has identified Torres as the player who can help him bring the Champions League to Stamford Bridge.

"Torres can go to City for just as much money perhaps even more, but it's clear that Chelsea offer far more in terms of a crack at the Champions League whereas City aren't even in it."

Chelsea are drawing up a list of players to offer to Liverpool in part exchange for Torres that could take the overall transfer value above the £80 million world record Real Madrid paid for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The deal could be structured like this; pick any three players from a specified list plus £40 million cash up front for Torres. That offer, according to Soccernet sources, will be made well ahead of the World Cup finals in South Africa, and most likely early next week.

With the three players averaging around £15 million each, the total valuation of the Torres offer would be in excess of the Ronaldo fee.

Abramovich is personally spearheading the quest to land Torres, and his manager Carlo Ancelotti will consider which players to use as bait to tempt Liverpool: Jose Bosingwa, Nicolas Anelka, Ricardo Carvalho, Deco, Salomon Kalou and Paulo Ferreira.

Anelka is the one player the Italian coach might be reluctant to offer up and, of course, the Frenchman might not wish to return to Anfield - although he has expressed regret at failing to win a permanent move to the club after spending a loan spell on Merseyside.

Manchester City are also in a position to offer Liverpool a shopping list of swap players, as well as a cash payment in excess of Chelsea's, but the prospect of joining the Double winners and a club intent on landing the Champions League would be far more appealing.

Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are battling with losses of £54.9 million, a net debt of £351 million, no Champions League football and with new chairman Martin Broughton an appointee of the club's bank RBS, a £40 million cash-plus-players bid for their star asset will clearly be accepted.

Ironically, Broughton is a Chelsea season ticket holder, and any decision to sell would inevitably make him unpopular at Anfield.

Such is the ground work being prpeared at the Bridge for the Torres bid, that star striker Didier Drogba is already ready to welcome him to the club.

"Of course I would welcome Torres," Drogba said last week. "Every time a new player comes here, it makes the club bigger and gives us a lot of strength. If there is a chance for him to come here, he will be welcome, because any help is welcome.''

I love it when journalists are so caught up in their own self-importance that their opinion becomes fact.

I don't believe ANYTHING coming out in the media anymore about anything related to LFC. End of the day we can only wait and see what happens. I'm switching off from it - it's doing my head in
