Fergie to retire (confirmed)

Doesn't matter who replaces him. Managers don't make any difference.

@Rosco

EDIT: Since when did Rosco change to Trollco?

EDIT 2: Ha. Can't type it at all.

There only hope of continuing success is to get a high impact manager like Mourinho, which will maybe get them another title or two in the next few years, but then leave them in a worse position afterwards. If it's the likes of Moyes, I suspect he'll try continue like Ferguson has done, but fall short. I think/hope they'll fall off soon enough, their squad is not good enough to continue winning like thy have done, and once a new manager puts their own stamp on it, they'll lose the winning mentality that they have bred into them under Ferguson. I know I'm probably being over optimistic, but for me Ferguson has stayed too long, it has meant they've won more trophies, but given that he's been unable to find a decent number two, I think they'll suffer for it in the next few years.

I hope it is Moyes to be honest he's just a jumped up accountant that's good with money that's all!! He's won nothing in 11 or 12yrs are'nt the mancs a team of winners? Either way I think they're fucked now. Hopefully Rooney, Scholes and Giggs fuck off now as well, this could be the rock that starts the avalanche and they go through all the shit we've had to go through!! Let's see how great they are then CUNTS.

You'd have to wonder whether the board would see Moyes as an attraction to big players, that would be a big issue for them.

I fucking hope its Moyes, hes the best manager Everton could get, but hes the worst option available to Utd. It would simultaneously ruin both clubs.

If its Klopp I think I'll cry

Ferguson is one of the two exceptions, not because of tactics or motivation but because of transfer and contract decisions.

I happen to think United wont become shite overnight because of the change. I'll be amazed if they don't have a strong set up behind the scenes doing the hard work of identifying and analysing players. It'll be a good set up for anyone to walk into, the only downside is that United were a little on the lucky side this year (look at the number if 1-0's) - so some regression should be expected.

But that said United haven't been very sort termist in their transfer dealings of late - unusual for a manager who knows he's on the way out. Fergie was planning ahead all of the time.

I'm not arsed who takes over. Its a big change and risk whoever it is. I'm just going to enjoy the thought that they might just struggle, big name or not.

I know I ought to find it in myself to show some respect for his considerable achievements but I'm not that good a man.

Fucking excellent news - I hope they hire Maureen and Fergie and him fall out regularly and to the detriment of the team.

"one of the two"?

Who's the other one?

EDIT: Also, surely you don't believe that transfer and contract decisions don't affect other teams?

This happens when the source of a virus recognises it has has spread far and wide enough to ensure a plague. It can die because its job is done. Mancs dominating the FA, the Premier League, etc etc - rest in peace, Ginsoak.

The biggest grin for quite a while spread on my face this morning when that little treat broadcast over the radio! Bet the scum fans are a little bit papping it. Any new manager is no guarantee of success

No. You don't need to find anything like that in yourself. He's a miserable old cunt.

Is it just me that reckons Moyes is being hugely underestimated on here?

A jumped up accountant someone said? What?

I don't know how well he'd make the step up but he's done a great job at Everton all in all and the football they play isn't always as bad as has been made out. Osman, Mirales, Piennar, Baines... they're not exactly promoted beyond their means cloggers are they.

Wenger. You're reading it wrong.

Fergie and Wenger make better decisions on contracts and transfers, they have a positive effect on their clubs when you equalise all other factors.
No other Premiership managers have done that.

My older brother who's a life long Man U fan is saying that Ferguson retiring is good for them.
He makes it sound like Ferguson has been holding them back by not replacing Scholes, Giggs etc.
They'll go on to compete with Bayern, Barca and Real now.

Tell your bro: if he keeps saying that to himself, he might even come to believe it one day.

Nope, but theres a huge step up from making the most of what you've got and making the best out of a lot, just see Harry Redknapp. It'll be very interesting to see how well he does.

He's done the club a favour. This current team is shite bar a few great players, his teams for the last few seasons haven't been great.

It isn't just you. Anyone taking that job now has a huge assignment on their hands, and not every manager who gets a middle-ranking team outperforming as often as Moyes has over the years does equally well if given a crack at a really big club, but I think he's tough enough and savvy enough to be in with a chance.
