Expectations for next Season

Lets consider two scenarios w.r.t funding, and two w.r.t manager.

1. Lots of money (60 million British big-ones net spend, to put a number), but Benitez remains as manager

2. Not much money (say 15 million net), but Benitez remains as manager

3. Lots of money (same as above), but we get a new manager

4. Not much money and a new manager.

What would be your expectations for next season considering the four scenarios above??

Warning: This could well turn out to be a shitty 'woe is us' thread...

Let's try and avoid discussions about the owners and their general cuntishness in this thread......

For me, as long as Benitez remains in charge, competing for League winners medal is the criteria regardless of how much money he gets.

I'll cut the new manager some slack if he doesn't get money. Even considering that, i would expect a top four finish at least.

Should i prepare myself to be disappointed next season too?

After thinking long and hard about all 4 options, i've come to the conclusion that whatever happens, we're going to win the league next year.

No offence Julian but bollocks to scenarios. Currently - my expectations for next season are more of the same unfortunately.

At least this years finally kicked me out of the old "I know I've said it for 19 years, but next year's the year!" habit.

I share this emotion. Every year I've at least gone into the start of the season with a modicum of hope - you know that little shining light you hold even though you know, in your head, you're not quite there as a team yet. Next season is months away and I'm already dreading it. We've gone from nearly there to light years away of the EPL title in an amazingly short time due to a combination of greedy lying cunts of owners, lack of investment, poor management and player apathy. It may be a bit maudlin I know but I've never felt such trepidation and worry about a coming season. Fuck the world cup. I don't give really give a flying fuck. Liverpool is all that matters to me and the truth is that, unless we get sold very very soon, we're going have to face up to some very harsh realities as supporters and get used to years of mediocrity or even worse.

Why would anyone's expectations lower based on the past 8 months?

We've got a fit first 11 more than capable of finishing fourth. Some shocking decision making and management, along with some poor performances by the players coupled with injuries have hampered us massively.

Rafa cannot possible be this bad next season.

We cannot possibly be this bad next season*

*Providing certain key players A)Remain fit B)Remain at the club C)Rafa takes his medication/naff's off to Juve

I believe we still have quite some way to fall before we reach the bottom.

Our auditors have once again remarked on our ability to remain a going concern and we have had to give assurances to the league that we can fulfil our fixtures next season. That's how serious things are.

Prospective owners would be wise to wait until the banks force a firesale of the club, which may come after G&H have sold our best players to delay the inevitable.

If that is the thinking of prospective buyers and we don't get sold soon we won't be getting any money beyond sale proceeds in the forthcoming transfer window. I can't see us doing any better next season with the squad we have now, never mind a squad that has lost key players so no rise up the table for us next year.

In conclusion, I can only see things worsening before they get better. I've got the point of thinking it's just a matter of waiting to find out how far we fall (including going bust) before we are rescued.

Top 6 finish.

Get some of those 'kids' contributing and set the foundation for a 'revival' within 3-5 years.

This all changes if we somehow are allowed to spend money.

in 3-5 years gerrard and then torres would be coming to the end. if our aim is top 6 we can do it without those two players right?

Why?

Without any big names/ talented 'footballers' at this club, massive amounts of £££ will need to be spent on talented replacements to ensure we remain a competitive club.

Surely it'd work out cheaper to purchase the club whilst we still have some half decent players on the payrole and build upon those solid foundations?

We won't win the league with those two in the current climate - at least I'm no longer 'hopeful' of that as George & Sunny allude to.

HC - Ignore Tal, he makes Dreamy look optimistic and positive.

I have no expectation for next season. And right now I couldn't give a sweet fuck.
Fuck them all.
I didn't change, my support didn't/hasn't wavered, but a succession of not good enough managers, overpaid cunt players and money grabbing cunt owners have ruined the club, and as I said, right here right now I don't care. Fuck the lot of them.

Isn't that a contradiction?

Our only hope is that these buyers force the two CRonnies into keeping our Jewels paste maker Hicks might stay his sweaty hand.

I'm fast running out of hope also.

I guess it's hard to say without knowing to what degree the others (Spurs and City) will strengthen, but assuming they don't go out and buy a bunch of a collection of superstars, I still think the strength of the spine of our side gives a chance. If we have a semi-decent summer and get a little lucky with injuries next season, things might not be quite as bad.

It's difficult to muster much optimism about next season, but if we can keep Torres fit all season long then we can make the CL.

In fact we might be even be able to better than that. He is so important to us.

I'd expect us to scrape fourth, but I'll always hope for slightly better.
