English Cricket/ *The Ashes*!

Yeah I think Prior could stay with Bell if he plays within himself a bit, c/f Broad, Swann will just merrily swing the willow.

How the fuck can they leave Doughey out? On what basis was that decision made?

Shocking.

I wish i had more time to follow this.

UNREAL!

England appealed, and lost. Can't remember the last time I jumped out of my chair like that.

Siddle has a hat-trick and 5-for, and today's his 26th Birthday. His missus is gonna get split in two tonight after that.

Siddle now has 6, Swann gone. Fuck knows why they bothered to appeal, that was as plum as you'll ever see.

222/8

So England 260 all out. Warne reckons they're about 40 short of par. Hard to tell really, we'll only know how good a batting wicket that was after Australia's innings.

Certainly advantage Australia after day 1, but I wouldn't be surprised to watch them hand it back tomorrow.

Australia's day for sure.

I reckon Australia still has to get a 150 run lead to get the upper hand in this test.

I'm still shocked they chose to go with Johnson as the left arm quickie and not Bollinger. He has been the pick of Australian bowlers in the last year or so, and he is still an unknown quantity for English batsmen. If they had to drop one of the four, it had to be Johnson.

There's a long way to go yet in this test match before England need to start praying for rain, Rosco! 260 was a disappointment but not a disaster.

I guess rain is a possibility though, as there was apparently a lot of it during the days leading up to the Brisbane Test.

160/5.

As predicted, Australia have handed back whatever advantage they'd gained out of day 1 in fucking spadefuls.

Hadden and Hussey are capable of building a big score between them.

This is true.

Really pivotal passage of play coming up in the first session tomorrow - if we let the tail wag, and the Aussies build up a 100-150 lead then not only do we have an uphill battle in this test, but weve given them a boost of confidence for the series.

However, if we wrap them up and get a good start to the second innings there will be an almighty outcry that they didnt take advantage of skittling us for under 300.

It should be helpful that the new ball is due - and the rain may also freshen the wicket up a bit!

Don't forget that the third day's play starts half an hour earlier because of the rain delay, i.e. 23.30 GMT.

🙂

Fucking hell - Flower has just had some cancer of the face removed (a melanoma in his cheek).

Jeepers.

Yes - Flower's statement about it was remarkably casual - something to the effect that he had had it for some time and thought he better get it seen to! Most skin cancer isn't actually that dangerous, but melanoma is a genuine cancer and is quite aggressive as far as I know. :🙂

And so off-hand about it too - "I'll be back with the squad in a couple of days, thanks".

Im already a bit nervous about the game later - 23.30 start you reckon?

Yes. They are starting earlier because of yesterday's rain delay. I'm nervous too. A breakthrough with the new ball is crucial to England's prospects.

We're only two days in and im already fucking shattered. I lasted till 3.30 day one and 4.30 yesterday. I may give up on tonight and then go big on Sunday (11am start) and Monday (day off).
Its all been pretty uninspiring stuff so far with Australia looking marginal favourites to take the first test.
The crowd is fucking shit. Whoopin and hollerin every decent hit like its a 20/20 game.

And the barmy army are the epitome of restraint?

Haddin and Hussey both with centuries. Swann getting fucking smashed everywhere. Must be a deliberate ploy to have attacked him from the get go.

Fucking hell... 467-8.

Impressive work from Hussey. That should be test over.

Time for bed.

1st innings lead of 220. Onus still on Australia though - you've gotta take 20 wickets if you want to win a test. If England get out of this with a draw it'll feel like a win for them and will be a big psychological blow for Australia.

England will have to have a mega second innings to have a chance of drawing this. As Ryan said, Australia would be demoralized if they don't win this from here.

Australia would have benefited from having a better spinner than Doherty, and i still think Hauritz was dropped unfairly based on the India tour. He had not been given any chance to attack the batsman, and it is difficult for a spinner when that is the case. He would have definitely had the opportunity to attack in this game.

I hope the CA selectors finally wake the fuck up and drop North. He is useless. A big innings once every 10 innings, and single digit figures the rest of the time, is not what you expect from a number 6 batsman.

It's great to see Mr. Cricket among the runs again, he has had a prolonged poor spell as well, but you don't average 80+ for over two years by being a poor batsman. The class was always there, same with Punter. If only they dropped North and brought in a more capable batsman, they will not have to worry about the brittle middle order anymore. I think they can carry Clarke through this poor run till he finds form again.

I cant help feeling we are fucked here - and not to blame the umpires, but how does Aleem Dar miss an LB right in front half way up....for fucks sake.

Props to Hussey and Haddin theyve batted us out of this, and we'll need to bat all day for no more than 4 down to stand a chance.

You are right, it couldn't have been more plumb LBW.

The commentators' theory was that the ball had hit both pads, thus producing a double sound, and Aleem Dar thought the first sound was the bat.

It's a pity England had used up both their referrals to the third umpire. I don't think 3 referrals per innings would be excessive.

Aleem Dar, i reckon, is one of the better umpires around right now, if not the best.

He rarely gets anything wrong.
