English Cricket/ *The Ashes*!

Re: English Cricket

As always the Aussies have a good bowling line-up, but they haven't got McGrath, Warne or Gilchrist who could pull a match out of the fire just when we thought we had got it won. I reckon that their batting line-up is about equal to England's, so I am hoping for a more evenly-matched tour of Australia than last time.

Whoever bowls the first ball mustn't bowl it in the direction of third slip though. I reckon when Harmison did that, it put the mockers on the whole tour!! ;D

Re: English Cricket

I dont think you can leave Anderson behind. He's too experienced and too good to have in the camp.
I still think Sidebottom would be my 'other' pick if fit. He rubs them up the wrong way and is a great line and length bowler.
Ultimately its going to be Swann and Broad vs the Aussie attack that decides the ashes for me. And as i said before i dont fancy us at all.

Re: English Cricket

Where is the first test played? It will be nice to get Perth done and dusted early-doors.

Re: English Cricket

The bit I saw, Ponting was interviewed and was asked 'Can we win 5-0?' and replied 'Erm, yes, I guess, that's what we should be aiming for...' It was hardly a McGrath style endorsement of a potential whitewash.

The Aussies aren't looking forward to it.

England will be strong in Sydney.

If they can somehow stay level, there is a real chance.

Re: English Cricket

I think this Summer has lulled England into a false sense of security regarding their bowlers as everyone seems to realise bar the England selectors. They need to have a look at some tall quickies. Finn has been a real find and I expect him, rather than Broad, to be the top wicket taker from the pace attack down under.

You heard it here first peeps.

Re: English Cricket

I agree Finn could be a bowler who does well down under. His bowling reminds me of McGrath although he has obviously some way to go before he is that good! 🙂

Re: English Cricket

I'm impressed. Respectable score in very difficult conditions. Great recovery.

I'm certainly impressed with how England's lower-middle order and tail has grown a back-bone in the last two years.

Re: English Cricket

From 102-7 to a potential innings and several hundred win. This Pakistan side is woeful.

Yes, they're young but they have shown every bit of their inexperience in this series.

This Pakistan team did manage to demolish England in at least one test match.

They have always been an enigmatic side. New inexperienced players have only managed to magnify the problem that is inherent in their system.

The result in this series cannot be used for a debate on how good the English team is.

The results of this can't be taken seriously when 4 of the players have potentially been rigging matches.

They are not being accused of rigging matches, just agreeing to bowl no-balls at agreed stages in the innings. This will have had no material effect on the result.

When those particular no-balls were bowled, it did seem odd at the time because the bowler (Mohammad Asim I think) was so far over the line - about a foot which is not normal.

Re: English Cricket

What an awful thing though, especially for those young Pakistani bowlers who are one of the true bright spots for the future of Pakistani cricket. This is a terrible shame, and mars one of the best stands I've ever seen in a cricket match. I feel really sorry for Broad and Trott. What a mess.

England's lower order has performed magnificently with the bat right through the summer. This betting fiasco should take nothing away from them.

I would attribute many of the hard-won results directly to good lower order batting. None of the top order bat has been in scintillating form, but as a team England have managed to come up with the runs.

Don't beat about the bush Brendan!

Tell us what you really thinkl!

😉

Re: English Cricket

Once again Pakistan cricket team confirm their status as the biggest cheats in sport. Fuck me over history how many times have this team cheated, they are even admitting now to using vaseline on the ball which is passed from the hand of the drinks guy to the bowlers.

Ban Pakistan from cricket is the only answer.

Cannot believe such a talented 18 yr old bowler with the world at his feet would risk his career for this, it must prove the mentality of the team and its surroundings

BAN BAN BAN

Re: English Cricket

They will just give the player a life time ban, and 6 months later grant amnesty to the same player.

Its not the cricketers. If a 18 year old comes into the team and starts acting like this, then its definitely the system that is at fault. Dissolving PCB and forming a new cricket administrative body should be the only thing they do.

At 18 the boy probably would be happy enough to just play Cricket.

Re: English Cricket

I think it would be an awful shame if international cricket loses Amir.

not nearly as shameful as his involvement in this. especially now after the floods and the fact it is ramadan

Fasting is intended to teach Muslims about patience, humility, and spirituality. It is a time for Muslims to fast for the sake of Allah and to offer more prayer than usual. During Ramadan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds

hahahaha amir is worthless to cricket, and worthless as a muslim. hahaa what a twat

I wouldn't be judging Englands status as a world force based on these results trust me!

Re: English Cricket

I dont think that banning is the solution here.

The subcontinent as a whole needs to look at legalising betting in order to have more control over it. A recent report published in India stated that 20,000 Crores (approx £2.6Billion) was illegally bet on the IPL 2010 alone!

I know its not an entire solution to the problem but by legalising betting on sports and controlling who can and connect accept bets will allow for a greater transparency in these dealings.
