England team - euro 2012

At least that means our main players should be back for the start of the season, instead of missing a good chunk of it due to the Olympics.

England are a dark horse for the title with that squad especially if it's utilized properly.

One of the best keepers around.

The best fullbacks.

Gerrard.

Add an unplayable Carroll and a hungry Rooney and I must admit things are looking up for Three Lions.

Downing will probably have more assists to his name from this little tournament than what he managed in the Prem combined.

This is an example of why I always think yo ur opinions are a bit mad

We'll see Ross.

The Downing comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek-like the rest however is pretty spot on. England has got a chance if they play their cards right with that squad.

This must be the first tournament England fans don't think they're going to win the thing, ironically it's probably the best group of players they've assembled for a long time.

I'd love for you to be right mate but I just don't think there's any way of it happening short of outright thuggery.

There's just no guile in that team. Theo and Chamberlain could add some real pace - I fancy Chamberlain to come on as an impact sub. Gerrard, Parker and Lampard can provide real drive and forcefulness in the middle; Carroll could be a beast and monster every CB in the comp but all this drive, power, speed etc will get you only so far without guile and of course some good tactics. That's where they're lacking and that's where they'll come undone.

I reckon they'll huff and puff against a good team but, ultimately, a good defense will blunt their attack quite convincingly and we'll seem pretty impotent. To be honest Wilshire could have made a difference.

-------------------------Hart--------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
---Johnson----Cahill----Lescott----Cole---------
-----------------------------------------------------------
---Ox-----------Parker----Gerrard----Young---
-----------------------------------------------------------
-------------------Carroll ----Rooney/Welbeck--

the squad smacks of short termism. they should be kicking the older players to the curb, writing off the euros (whilst being honest and transparant to the english fans who WOULD understand) and build for the world cup. no long term plan, just flings things together at the last minute and hope for the best. anyone who thinks england will get further than the quarters is fucking, IN. SANE.

If we could start every game with each of those players we'd probably have a chance.

Neil, who would you have included instead? Three of England's best youngsters are included in the squad (Jones, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Welbeck), another 3 are injured (Wilshere, Walker, Rodwell). You could consider Hart a youngster aswell in goalkeeping terms.

They've got two good defenders, one of them won't play. Parker is struggling with injury and neither Lampard nor Gerrard function well in the middle of a 4-4-2, which is clearly what this squad is picked for.

if hodgon took over a year ago i would agree with you. there is, no merit whatsoever, in picking a team of young guns this late and sending them to a tournament to be mentally scarred for the rest of their pro lives.

That squad is a joke.

I also hate the fact that Gerrard is captain. I don't want a team he captains to fail yet I desperately want a team Hodgson manages to fail. What a dilemma. DAMN YOU WOY!

Nobody thinks we will, so stop preaching like you have the inside track.
Our best squad is about 8th best in Europe.
It always is.
It doesnt matter a shit which players we take, and giving Smalling and fucking Henderson 3 games now will not help us win World cup 2020. It will just hasten us out of this competition.
We arent in ANY WAY doing anything dramatic or un-dramatic. Were picking the best squad (ish) to try and stay in the competition as long as possible.

How is it a joke? Besides from taking Phil Jones instead of Micah Richards, it's a pretty good squad i'd say.
First of all, no Carrick?
Carrick is better than Barry and Parker IMO.
Agree about Richards, but he should have been there together with Phil Jones.

I'd have had Parker ahead of Carrick, maybe even Barry. Who would you have replaced for Jones then? (assuming Richards is in there instead of him)

I'm revising my prediction for the France game to the following.

France 5 England 1

I think foreign teams will really struggle to cope with England's innovative 4-4-2 formation with two banks of four sitting back in straight lines and moving several feet in the same direction like a well oiled machine. Good old fashioned British spunk will do for the southern european nations who'll struggle to cope with balls into the channels for Downing to run onto, balls over the top for Rooney to chase after and long high balls for Carroll to knock down to the midfield 40 feet away.

Seriously though, after travelling all around Europe for thirty years making every team he managed play exactly the same way, I expect the opposition will be in for a few surprises this summer when he plays exactly the same way.

It's lucky foreign coaches and players aren't as tactically flexible or astute as the English or they would probably figure out a way to overcome Roy's system.

to the earlier question, you mean to tell me we can't muster a squad of players front to back who are 27 years old or younger?

Honestly I would love to lambast these naysayers or at least have a quiet confidence that we may in fact perform, but in essence this is the same shit group of cunts who Sven Goran Ericcsen and Fabio Capello couldnt get to do fuck all but scrape the odd win away in Macedonia to qualify us, and those two cunts have won more titles than Roy has had Caravaning holidays in the Cotswolds.
Ive as much chance of winning the Tour de France as this tragic cunt has of shambling together 6 victories over the combined might of Europe.
Its like Captain fucking Mannering taking on the third reich with a canny smile and a smattering of British daring-do.
We're gonna be a fucking laughing stock and Domanech isnt even there to make us look like the second most happless bunch of overpaid pointless cunts on the planet.

COME ON TEAM GB IN LONDON!!!
