Maybe we're signing someone better?

Haha...who am I kidding we ain't signing no striker.

We’re signing a striker alright. Seems Daka doesnt fit the profile we’re after and we were never interested. Vlahovic maybe?

Kind of gutted we're not getting him, I think he has real potential. The lizards missed out on Haaland at £17m and now Daka. I can't help but think they would rather just compete than win.

I hope you're wrong, I don't believe we can win the title next season if Firmino is still our starting centre forward.

In my opinion we only buy a new striker if we sell Origi, with the selling part being the first bit of the sequence.

It's my opinion like. I can see maybe one or, at the absolute most, two players coming in. But they won't be expensive, high profile signings.

Yep.

We haven't sold anyone yet, as far as I know, and the excuse about the Euros is bullshit.
Half of the potential "departees" are on vacation.

Likewise I reckon it will be another sell to buy transfer window with little or no net spend.

Yeah, definitely. And I can't see Klopp wanting to sell too many. Wilson, Grujic, maybe Shaq. I think he'll look to try and keep the squad together. Plus, the Euros and Copa America make everything harder. Then there's the Covid excuse. I'm not expecting a lot of movement.

If we get a signing like Salah - or Mane, who were just before they became stars, it's fine too.

We won't spend 40 mil on another attacker out of nowhere. Jota is that player. I reckon Klopp is happy with his forward options.

I don't think it's a case of trusting Klopp or not - though if anything, trusting him should reinforce the idea that we need to strengthen as he clearly doesn't rate his backup options.

This squad was pretty much brought to it's knees last season and looking forward we need to consider that:
  • We've just lost a key 50 games a season player on a free,
  • Milner is a year older
  • There are question marks over our central defence due to injury issues
  • A number of key players showed a pretty alarming loss of form over the course of last season
  • Once again our injury prone cohort have proven that they cannot be relied upon
  • We're coming off the back of a compressed Covid season and major summer tournaments so next year will be tough
With all that in mind, if we insist on thinking we can muddle through with a core of 15 or so players then we'll be in for another tough year.

There's plenty of players on our books but Klopp clearly doesn't trust enough of them, rightly so.

Take Naby Keita. In and out of the team for the first third of the season then he is spirited away with the medical team to make sure he is fully fit so misses the next third, before coming back into the starting lineup in the key quarter final away game in Madrid, hooked at half time after our disastrous performance and never seen again for the rest of the season.

Klopp just can't trust him so it's in the interests of all concerned that he moves on and I suspect he will. He will have to be replaced

Watching the rest scramble around for a new manager right now and just grateful we got a guy like Klopp.
He deserves more backing from FSG and hopefully that will happen but the way he has acted over the last 2yrs with dignity is a credit to the club.
Grass at the moment is definitely not any greener out there when it comes to managers.

Difficult to see us challenging on the pitch when we can't compete off the pitch with our closest rivals financially. City , Chelsea and Utd already have stronger squads than us and are likely to bolster their ranks this summer whilst we seemingly need to sell to buy at this point.
The Konate signing looks like a long term Van Dijk replacement but where are young players pushing for places in the forward line or midfield? Right now it's Jota and Jones but Jones was nowhere to be seen in the run in last season which suggests Klopp isn't totally convinced with him which I agree with. He might get there in the next 2 or 3 years but he doesn't look any better than the older players we already have in the midfield which is concerning.

I'd imagine that our first choice midfield next season will be Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago but Henderson is 31 now and is likely to play fewer games as he gets older, Fabinho isn't fit for every game and neither is Thiago so we need other players to potentially fill in for a few months of the season and I'm not sure we have enough quality in depth. Milner only started 11 games last season in the league and 9 the year before so we can hardly rely on him, Keita is even worse with only 32 starts in 3 years in the league and that's before we mention the perma crocks that are Oxlade Chamberlain and Shaqiri.

Only having 4 forwards is a big risk considering how poor Mane and Firmino's form was last season (I've ruled out Origi as he's surely gone this summer). Apart from Jota last season our forwards have been remarkably robust and haven't missed many games in the past three or four years but that's got to catch up with us at some point especially as Salah, Mane and Firmino are all 29 now.

I would have liked us to get Daka but if it isn't him then it needs to be some other young forward (25 or under) to freshen the forward line up and put our other strikers under pressure for their places.

We’re incredibly fortunate and for all the frustrations with FSG, at least we have our own internal transfer strategy rather than going down the easy road of outsourcing to a super-agent as more clubs now seem to be doing.

[article]Zambian forward Patson Daka,21 has opted to join English Premier League side Leicester City because they guarantee him game time, the ZamFoot Crew can exclusively reveal.

According to the ZamFoot Crew sources, Daka’s handlers held talks with a host of English teams including West Ham and Liverpool about a possible deal but it was Leicester who offered the much-needed game time.

“Yes, talks with several various clubs which have been mentioned were held but his handlers made it clear that he was only to join a club which was going to offer him game time,” a ZamFoot Crew source said.

“For instance one of the big clubs held talks with his people and both sides were honest with each other.

“The club were eager to sign him but didn’t see him as a first-choice center forward. They wanted him to start as a fringe player. But his management didn’t agree with that proposal.”

With that background, it was agreed that King Power Stadium was the right destination for the Kafue native.

The Brendan Rodgers-coached side is expected to announce the signing of the former Kafue Celtic starlet by Monday from Austrian side Redbull Salzburg.

Daka who is currently on holiday in Zambia becomes the fifth Zambian to join an English side.

Former Chipolopolo strikers Emmanuel Mayuka and Collins Mbesuma had unsuccessful spells with Southampton and Portsmouth respectively.

Daka scored 68 goals and registered 27 assists in 125 games for the Austrian giants.[/article]
