I think a lot of the posts in this thread are over the top. I can't hate the man for Istanbul, he isn't a cunt, and I think it's kind of shameful to say so. That said, he does need to move the fuck on, can't disagree with any of that sentiment! We'll always remember you for Istanbul, cheers.

The crowd of late (last few months when times have been shite) still seem to be behind him Oncy. the chants are regular (every match as far as I can make out) and the derision is lacking. Maybe it's an 'at the game behind the team' thing I dunno, but that's what I'm going off.

Im so fucking miserable.

The problem is with a lot of match going fans is they're easily influenced. They're easily swayed by a couple of goals and inevitably slide into the "Rafa Benitez" chants. I've not chanted that for a long long time.

I also think the fans hate for the owners outweighs everything else.

I don't hate Benitez. I firmly (and always will) believe he does what he thinks is right for the club. I don't doubt that for a minute. I don't even dislike him. But he's failing. He's failing to get the best of his team. He's failing to deliver. He's failing to bring young players through. He's failing to win games. He's failing to entertain (that I can live with if you get results). He's failing to motivate. He's failed to play TWO £20m players now. Money we can scarely afford to spend unwisely. It's time for him to move on a let someone else have a crack.

Whether anyone else can make us successful again is highly debatable. Not with the two cunts in charge. I want them gone even more.

I'm hardly optimistic mate. My 'match thoughts' post is as resigned and negative as it gets. Do you think I sat through that 90 minutes enjoying things, and looking for the positives?

I just don't see the point in sitting here typing about the manager and left-back being "cunts" is all.

I wanted him sacked after he bought Keane.

I said that was the turning point for Rafa and so it has proven.

We had a team so close to winning the league but since then we both,

Keane, Dossena, Aquaman, GJ, Maxi, Reira.

70 odd Million and only 1 player of that lot is worthy of a start every week.

Rafa should have been axed for,

fucking up with Keane,
fucking up with Aquaman,
fucking up with replacing Alonso,
fucking playing Lucas every week when he scores zero and creates zero goals.
fucking up by not playing Yossi in the whole when the situation requirred it 6 months ago,
fucking up by not replacing Keane.
fucking up by not replacing Risse.
fucking up by sticking with the same shit players week in week out,
fucking up by not changing his tactics when its obvious how slow predictable and toothless we have become.

God I'm angry now. I knew we'd struggle for fourth this season but games like today shock even me.

Wigan! Fucking 9-1 Wigan!!!

Jesus Christ!

F*ck off Rafa now!

I've always been a strong Benitez supporter.

Up until this season I think he has over-achieved with the resources he has had in comparison to the other big 3.
Champions League Win, another Champions League Final. FA Cup win, progression in the league EVERY season culminating in last season's highest points tally ever and a genuine-ish title contest.
My critisisms of him were like most, overly-cautious tactics (which I thought he would abandon following last seasons final surge) .questionable man-management approach and his rotation policy.

At the start of this season, I considered it THE most important opportunity we've had since the summer leading up to Houlliers 2002/3 season, to make the RIGHT signings building on what we had achieved. Also, with Ronaldo leaving Man Utd and Chelsea not really strengthening, there was real reason to be optimistic of winning the title.

What transpired was the absolute opposite, of which I partly put down to Benitez but mostly down to our owners. The injuries have ofcouse made things worse, but this has been compounded with what has since been some bizarre tactics, persistance with certain sub standard players and some of the worst football I've seen for years all too often explained away with poor excuses.

My confidence in him has been severely knocked, but I am prepared to give him another full season, partly out of what he has achieved previously (which I'm not sure is right ), but also because I don't really see anybody else (Mourinho apart) I'd be eager to see step in.

Anyway, that my view.

that's what i was gonna say. and even last season was founded on a bunch of miracle comebacks which had no resonance at all with rafa's gameplan.

i am fed up with his obvious proclivities and i'd find a more attacking manager quite refreshing. i'd love a british manager, though i can't think of a suitable name to put forward.

Oh, and i'd be interested to see where Rafa4PM stands on this issue?
[/quote]

One of the three who voted 'no', obviously.

I recognize that Rafa probably should go, but weirdly I still find it quite hard to come to terms with and actually say so. I'd like for him to do succeed and he'd need another season to do that, but it's getting harder and harder to justify.

Forget about top clubs, I think this sort of situation at most clubs at all levels would see the manager sacked or in serious danger of being sacked. The team hasn't played well all season, look all over the place most of the time and are realistically going to fail to achieve the bare minimum of requirements. It'd be impossible to argue that sacking him wouldn't be justified.

I voted no but if I'm honest with myself its more because I am worried about who he will be replaced by. and let's not fool ourselves by saying 'anyone will be better' because that patently isn't true.

I voted Yes for the first time.

I was and still am a big fan of Houlliers because he gave us back our place amongst Europe's elite, he won us trophies and instigated some rigid policies that were noticeably absent during Uncle Roy and Souness' tenure. Unfortunately he plateaued and it became obvious that he had taken us as far as he could.

It's a simlar situation with Rafa, he's done a great job and won us The European Cup back as well as a few domestic trophies. He made sure that not only were we at the top table of European fottball we became one of the most feared teams and we had some glorious nights. Unfortunately we seem to have reached the same level of stagnation that happened at the end of Ged's reign.

The good news is I believe this squad has significantly more talent than the one Ged left behind and under a top new manager we could turn things around very quickly. I don't particularly like Martin O'Neill as a person but I think he's a top manager and I reckon I could grow to love him if he became our manager and delivered league success.
