He's been on fire and more consistent than many for a long time. Interesting and in tune with FSG policy that it's just 12 months more for now...

Kuyt extends Liverpool deal
April 16, 2011

Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has agreed a one-year contract extension to remain at Anfield until 2013, his management company have announced.

The Holland international, who joined the Reds from Feyenoord in 2006, was contracted until next summer but has been rewarded for his form this season.

In a statement issued by Sport-Promotion, Kuyt said: "I am very happy. We have spent a long time (in discussions) but always with the intention to reach an agreement. All the conversations were conducted in a friendly atmosphere. It fits perfectly with the feeling I got at this club. Since the day I first walked in, I felt welcome. That feeling has never left.''

The release added that Kuyt had been discussing new terms with the club for the past month.

Kuyt, 30, who played in the World Cup final with Holland last summer, has struck 11 times for the Reds in all competitions this season.

He scored his first hat-trick for the club in last month's impressive Premier League win over Manchester United and has since followed up with further goals against Sunderland and Manchester City.

Yet it is not principally for goals that Kuyt has earned a regular starting place in his five seasons at Anfield, but his all-round contribution and tireless workrate. Although signed as a striker in a £9million deal, Kuyt has been deployed most successfully in a right-sided midfield role.

Manager Kenny Dalglish was quoted in the Sport-Promotion release as saying: "He never gives up, fights with everything and he is simply a good footballer. He scores goals and it's as simple as that, and often in major competitions or at crucial moments, like the recent Manchester United game. Dirk is happy with the extension, and I am sure we will enjoy having him.''

Liverpool's squad were at Anfield on Friday for a memorial service to mark the 22nd anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster. They return to the field on Sunday with a tough game at title-chasing Arsenal.

The Merseyside club have a poor away record against the Gunners having not won against them in north London since a 1-0 victory at the old Highbury ground in 2000.

happy enough with that, Dirk is great player to have in the squad and players over 30 shouldnt be getting long term contracts as they can go downhill very rapidly so I think this suits all parties and its a good bit of business. Hopefully this is a sign of a more sensible approach towards our contract negotiations going forward

Good, this is how we should do things.

Kuyt is fantastic when on form. When he's not on form we should rest him, and harvest his bone marrow and feed it to the Agger types in our squad.

NO

I'm happy to keep him as a squad player alone. We need better than him if we want to compete, cos it's obvious that he's not a very good footballer, has limited ability, and should only play in certain formations.
