In sacking Rafa?

I'm starting to wonder, I was one of the people who wanted him gone, but maybe we were wrong? Maybe last season was just a bad season in isolation whilst we were re-building? Rafa had us firmly in the CL, that seems so far out of our reach right now.

Rafa under NESV could have been a totally different story. He had the ability to attract players and to get us big results. Maybe we messed up?

Of course we did, with this being the alternative.

He would have needed to have a dressing down concerning his transfers and accept a restructuring, so there would have been issues anyway, but I don't think we'd be doing this poorly were he here. Not that we'd be really competitive either.

I wouldn't say he had us 'firmly' in the CL seeing as we finished 7th... But I was indifferent to him leaving thinking things would work out either way..

I wish he was here now, especially after seeing the 'game over' gesture when we were 3nil up against Fat Sam.. those were the days..

Possibly, but in the end the problem wasn't getting rid of Benitez but replacing him with roy.

I think Rafa needed to go regardless. He was on a downward spirral going nowhere. Signings, allianaiting players and just tinkering to much.

We obvs shouldnt have offered Roy the job.

Someone did a poll. And given the likes of Roy, Hughes etc everyone wanted Rafa to stay.

We made a mistake with the crooked yanks more than anything.

.....and the new cowardly ones.

MAN UP HENRY YOU GIANT FUCKING GAYLAIRD.

We've done this a million times.

Here's the facts: Benitez is miles better than Budgie.

Benitez also had a fucking *diabolical* last season with us, which one could easily argue merited the sack.

BUT - as most people with a fucking clue knew straight away - if the outcome was Benitez being replaced by a useless old cunt like Budgie, then it was a huge mistake to get rid of Benitez.

This was borne out by various polls and discussions at the time, and we all know who was right and who was so very, very, desperately wrong.

But it's the past, now.

We'rer stuck with this superannuated safe pair of hands loser twat.

Great post!

Even with Roy gone, who are we gonna replace him with? Are we realistically gonna get anyone better than him?

Maybe last season was one we needed to re-build/deal with ownership issue

I just had this awful thought, that all the people saying anybody but Roy could be proved as wrong as the anyone but Rafa brigade.

Couldn't happen though, could it?

Only a brainless cunt would have said 'anyone but rafa' and meant it.

That said, there were several people who were pleased that Budgie had replaced Benitez.
Alright Bren, let it go. They have paid a terrible cost for their lack of faith.
And it has enabled you to do what you love after all Brendan. I mean you get to come on here day after day and tell us all how right you were. It's an ill wind.....

I was a fan of Rafa. But after his last season I agreed who should go *if* we had a top class replacement. I never wanted Roy, I thought it was an appointment that screamed mediocrity, and he hasn't proved me wrong. I think my views probably reflect the feelings of most Liverpool fans.

of course. i agree with bren in that, in isolation, last season was bordering on a sacking offence, but the reason that we never hoped to attract a top-class replacement was precisely the reason benitez deserved the benefit of the doubt: the club was in a fucking mess and no-one really knew how much the regression was down to benitez or down to the terrible working conditions he found himself in.

i don't care what mistakes he made, i'll always think it was a shoddy way to treat someone who'd done so, so, much good for the club.

nice one, purslow.

Of course it was, the majority of us all knew that. Rafa v budgie, only one winner there, sadly we've got the loser.

Really? Why haven't you mentioned this before?

As has been said, getting rid of a double La Liga winning, CL winning, FA Cup winning manager and replacing him with Hodgson was a huge mistake. But we were owned by a pair of wankers and I think that he (Roy) is their final two fingers to us.

Sure Benitez had a poor season, but there were huge problems within the club. We got used to CL footie under Rafa. It could be a while before it returns.......

Nail on head

We made the mistake in appointing Hodgson.

Rafa had to go because he was building a squad which was going backwards and he hadn't won a trophy in four years. You only have to take a look at what he's now doing to Inter to see that he's lost whatever mojo he had.

It was a mistake to appoint a new manager when the club is on course to look for a new owner.

I think that's fair and nicely put.
