I think it's been established that it's not DIC, but the Sheik himself. Big difference if true.
[/quote]
what's the difference? I know the Sheik is a fan himself, does he not own that kind of moolah himself. Always thought DIC is a vehicle for his family

Big diff - isn't DIC a state company? If so it's the people's money and not the Sheik's...

there is a difference if it is the chief of dubai sheikh, if so we will be second fiddle in the grand scheme of things - in an ideal world we need a chinese or indian billionaire to open new markets

Are you referring to finances or something more than that because ultimately it doesn't really matter whether they have 10billion or 40 if they're prepared to invest what's needed.

We don't really need a sugar daddy to give us 250m to build a squad from scratch. What we need is some very savvy people to come into the club and sort things out once and for all.

not the finances, the power politics really - if come tomorrow we have a dubai sugar daddy wanting to buy a player that the city abu dhabi sugar daddy has his eye on then if the competition is seirous and the player worth it, we will come off second best - this is because in that region abu dhabi call the shots and a few phone calls here and there and the bling pretenders in dubai will back out.

In that part of the world power politics are important, Abu dhabi forced dubai to name their biggest monumental achievement (the world biggest building) after the head honcho at abu dhabi, says it all

if we are thinking about rich owners than i would prefer someone from qatar, bahrain or outside the region

I don't think we're going to have much of a choice in the matter. You're also missing one aspect - the player themselves.

It's only ever been rumoured, once, about two years ago.

There isn't a shred of evidence to support the notion.

You are right Ross there was no firm evidence and it was all "sources from Dubai etc" but the rumour and hearsay was very strong lasted for some time and was also reported in all sections of the press including all the broadsheets, there was enough of it to perhaps be no smoke without fire. The basis of it was we did not really fit DIC profile, and we fitted in the Sheik Mo better
It's not the way the arabs like to do business apparently.

The internet is currently alive with rumours some allegedly emanating from Barclays in Canary Wharf that something is in the offing and will be announced early next week at £525,000,000.

We will see I suppose.

Fucking hell, I will cry with relief if the club is sold next week.

We'd fit in perfectly with DIC's profile Vlad, their investment book is full of businesses haemorrhaging cash because of debt obligations.

The way I see it is that it's the Sheik who wants/wanted us for personal fulfillment, as an investment yes, but not necessarily in the same mould as their (pre-recession) DIC business, where they brought something or created it and passed it on within a certain time limit.
In the same way as his racing stable

Is that not wishful thinking though Vlad? If Sheikh Mo had wanted us to fulfil his personal desires, wouldn't he have bought us at a number of times over during the last few years. His vast thoroughbred operation has habitually paid over the odds for sires and progeny he'd wanted for many years. It's only since the bloodstock industry has become significantly more competitive over the last ten years or so that he's had to pay more attention to the way his operation is run, aided by the excellent John Ferguson.

Maybe he tried and got knocked back. When Moores went there were a number of reports that he'd dithered too long, or changed his mind, over more than one previous sale opportunity.

Which speaks to me of a DIC bid and not one personal to the Sheikh. I know without reservation that in the past the Sheikh has instructed Ferguson to buy bloodstock at ridiculously inflated prices (tens of millions) because he "wanted" the (often unraced) horses. He'd surely do the same with Liverpool would he have a personal desire to own the club.

Incidentally, for those of you not interested in horse racing, a good article about the influence has had on the sport (of Kings!)...

Maybe it is wishful thinking.
Perhaps he could have thrown money at it and paid over the odds to get it, but I don't think he would want the yanks to think he was an easy touch, and were expecting him to accede to their demands about how much they would sell etc. He always said he wanted a majority and they said they wanted to retain the majority, I just think he has been biding his time, until they were in a position where they had to sell.

regards

Let's hope you're right. He'd probably be the best solution, combining both a real passion for the club with considerable personal wealth and the desire to lavish it on a personal ambition.

We'd have a shiny new stadium and more quality players in no time.

And it's also to much of a coincidence the Broughton/BarCap/Amanda Staveley/DIC/Sheik link.
