DIC close in on £500m takeover of Liverpool
May 02, 2010

The Sunday Express report today that Dubai International Capital are finally close to securing a £500 million takeover of Liverpool.

The next few weeks are set to be tumultuous at Anfield with owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks selling up and Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez heading to Juventus, according to the Sunday paper.

DIC, the investment arm of Dubai’s ruling family led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, attempted to buy Liverpool in 2007 but lost out to the American pair of Hicks and Gillett.

In 2008, DIC attempted to buy Gillett’s 50% share of Liverpool but talks broke down again.

If the deal goes through this time, DIC are tipped to commit funds to build Liverpool a new stadium and will hand a new manager a significant sum of money to spend on new players.

The Sunday Express list a whole list of names to replace Rafa Benitez at Liverpool, including Joe Mourinho, Martin O’Neill, Martin Jol and Frank Rijkaard

Woo-hoo! So Vlad was right all along...

Ha (Thats what i thought).

Good news if true? I seem to recall a few on here suggesting that they'd be the same as G&H.

Getting in DIC would be so excellent that I'd cream myself.

From that list of managers, Mourinho is the only one I want, and if its true DIC will put funds forward for a stadium and players, Jose will probably come aswell.

Oh the irony that Benitez leaves because he doesn't feel wanted and that funds aren't availeble.

What are you skulking about in the shadows for?

Did you know something? Can you affirm something? If the answer is affirmative then reply with two dots.

You always are. But of what exactly? That DIC are in for us, or that it would be a good thing if they were?

Last time they had set up a company called PCP-DIC Seven to bid for LFC, it was a partnership with PCP. (Amanda Stavely is part of the senior management of PCP.)

Anyway I tracked the various goings on via the Companies Office, because a company obviously has to file accounts etc to stay on the register. They failed to make any returns at all and were struck off the register, indicating that their interest at that time was at an end.

They haven't resurrected PCP-DIC Seven, so I wonder what way they are approaching it this time.

getting DIC in would be not be the best option, if ever we and Man City were in conflict or competition, the abu dhabi chiefs in city would pull rank on the dubai bunch.

i'll believe it when I see it. aren't dubai in the middle of financial meltdown?
[/quote]

Very true. I suspect they are busy dealing with their own little financial crisis, so they won't have the time nor the money for buying a football. But let's wait and see.

I'm sure they could still afford a football.

I dunno, the new adidas ones which are lighter and tougher are pretty expensive

Rumour has it the bid is from the Sheik(not ours obvs for future jokes) himself, not DIC.

And, he isn't skint........

As Keni said Sameer Al-Ansari isn't with DIC any more, yet the Express article above says he is in the middle of negotiations for DIC.

"Prominent in the discussions is DIC chief and self-confessed Liverpool fan Sameer Al Ansari. "

So either somebody is embellishing a story or it's all bullshit

EDIT:

Maybe he is still involved:

You guys are missing a big point here.

Dubai aren't interested in 'Football' as such - they're doing it purely for marketing purposes which has been a key strategy to their past success.

They desperately need to bring the spotlight (and confidence for international investment) back to Dubai - and what better way to do it than purchase one of the World's

greatest known sports franchises.

Yeah, but they dont have any money with which to do that. Their biggest portfolio is being taking over by a bank/lender.

Other than that, yeah, it makes perfect sense.

Al-Ansari is non-executive chairman of DIC these days, and not as close to the Sheik as he used to be.
