Defending like this we'll never win the league

Great game today, once again attacking wise we were lethal. In an attacking sense i think we're easily the best in the league right now. However another game where we looked like total tosh at the back, this needs to be sorted out because when we play the best teams they'll completely expliot this.

Is it Carraghers lack of faith in Skrtel which is causing this? Lack of Alonso's protection? Will having Agger back solve it all? We need to sort it out and fast otherwise all our games against the top 6 teams will go the way of Tottenham.

Funny isn't it, we get off to a flyer scoring for fun, and we are shite at the back!

I think Carra will get himself sorted, he's a clever lad and his games not going down, its just he tries doing 2-3 defenders jobs at once.

Mystic is right though.

Whilst i'm glad we are finally putting the lower teams to the sword, defending the way we are will only see us lose the top games that we were winning last year. Fiorentina and Chelsea as our next 2 games will be 2 big tests of both our defence, and the team as a whole.

Last year we were held at 2-2, today we won 6-1. Thats alright ain't it? The defence will sort itself out, we've been excellent in that department for years now. The inclusion of Agger will improve us greatly.

I was hoping that Drogba's "terrible" knee injury would keep him out of the SB encountered, though...

Thats exactly what i'm saying, whilst it's brilliant were winning these games so easily, the reason we were so high last season is because we beat the big boys. If we don't sort the defense out we'll have trouble doing this again.

While I agree with the bolded part, do remember that the reason we missed on the league title last year was because we drew so many games against the small teams. 4:0, 4:0, 6:1 against Stoke, Burnley and Hull are very encouraging results. Now let's trust Rafa to solve the defensive problems, after all he's a very defensive manager, isn't he? 😉
 
In past season's the concerns have been as follows:

1. Not enough flair going forward: fixed
2. Too defensive: Fixed
3. Too dependent on Gerrard: fixed
4. We draw too many games vs Minnows (fixed)
5. We can't beat the big guns (fixed)
6. We'll struggle to win without Alonso (who?)

I must say, I am impressed with Rafa's willingness to improve.

I feel like we'll be up close to the heights of last year....

I feel this could be our year!

we're practically playing with 2 new defenders in johnson and insua and our solid and reliable central defenders are off form.

Great point man. Rafa has a great range of talent...and GJ an Insua are playing out of their skins. GJ adds so much to the team
 
Our defence will improve over the season.
We still have Agger, Aurelio and Aquilani to come into the side, that should help us defensively.
 
I don't think i would like to see Aurelio ahead of Insua.

I would also like to see Agger nail his place in the center.

Carra seems more comfortable playing on the right. Moreover he is playing like he has become Skrtl blind. Took him out in the season opener. He is always following Skrtl around the park...etc

Insua was playing most of the games towards the end of last season and has been in fine form this season.

I do think the defensive shield of Alonso is being missed and that Carragher needs to learn to trust Skrtel and concentrate entirely on his job. He should have been in a position to intercept the ball played back for the goal today, instead he was trying to cover Skrtel as he clearly didn't have any faith in him.

yea i saw the lack of trust by carra for the goal. someone needs to have a word with him. i know he wants to win but he's actions are costing us
