Dublin are the Man U of Gaelic football because everyone else fucking hates them.
However, UNLIKE Man U., Dublin are mostly hated by small-minded idiots who cannot actually justify their hatred, and thus invent reasons like "Well, you're so cocky about winning it every year" (when we're not and we haven't won in f$%!ing donkies), or "Well, you lot hate all culchies" (when we don't, but our reacting to defend our team/city/county with the same passion that all Irishmen would their team/city/county sees us branded as arrogant), and other such nonsense.

Many such Dub-haters are so obsessed with us that it's more important to them that we lose than their own county win. How pathetic is that?
I think the hatred is more that people want other counties to win simply because Dublin has by far the biggest population. Plus they always take over hill 16!
Fair enough, to a certain extent. But you know as well as I do, that many people, including one or two on these forums have irrational anti-Dublin hatred, for no reason other than it's Dublin. I have a couple of freinds who 'suffer' from it... Lived there, enjoyed their time there, still have great craic there when they visit, mates with me and several other Dubs, but simply will not say a nice word about it. Ever. You'd swear there's no gurriers or crime anywhere else except Dublin, ffs!

And c'mon... If you hate the Dubs for having the Hill, you also have to hate the Scousers for having the Kop. Some things just are...

I watched as a Meath man tried to make a case to a few dubs as to why he should sit on Hill 16. It went a bit like this.

Meath Man : Why should I have to pay extra to sit over there (points to Cusak Stand)?
Dublin Man : So you're a hungry bastard? Here, have a fucking sambo then.

He then goes on to throw his ham and cheese buttie (where this food came from I have no idea) at the guy hitting him on the face. I know this story doesn't paint a nice picture but the lightening fast wit of the Dub followed by a Meath man covered in Mayo had me (and all around) in a stitches laughing. The Meath man didn't appear for the second half.

The Kop belongs to Liverpool, Croke park is meant to be the national stadium. Anyhow I'm just jealous, i've followed Antrim all my life and have lost count of the times i've frozen myself nearly half to death standing in Casement Park. Even in the middle of summer that place is freezing.

Complete bullshit, more Dublin paranoia than anything. Name one county that prefer to see Dublin get beat than there own win ?

Fair enough in the 70/80/ early 90's they were hated and with good reason in some cases. Its the capital city so of course theres going to be a bit of jealousy with the amount of media coverage the team and the players receive.

Of course Dublin teams in the past have been arrogant any of the called experts would agree with that and Pat Gilroy has even alluded too it himself thus the reason for the rebuilding process of trying to change the psyche of the Dublin footballer.

It's not bullshit or paranoia at all, mo chara.

I didn't say entire counties, I.R. - I said "Dub-haters". And I can name several that I know personally.

Normal fans will always put their team's victory over everything else, hoping for a rival's failure only afterwards - As we do with the scum and the bitters, as I do with Meath and Cork - but I'm not calling out the 'normal' fan here... I'm referring to the blind hater of all things Dublin.

And I also haven't see the alleged arrogance of the team or us supporters in many, many years, my friend - We are hopeful and optimistic, like all fans of their teams, but I don't know ANYBODY who follows the Dubs who says that we WILL win, at the start of every summer, like so many people claim we do. If we've been paying attention, we've had quite a few heart-breaks to temper any potential arrogance... We're loud and proud of our city & county, but aren't all Irishmen? Ever been in Navan or Killarney or Galway on the afternoon of a big match? Why aren't THEY all called arrogant too?

So are we talking about gaelic football now? In which case, Liverpool.
Which was my original answer too...

As it's the euros and i really do not care much for the majority of the players at the moment i would say LFC.... as for a WC win.... i think that would be beyond a league win, even for a devout fan such as myself. It would make everybody in England happy and would be a once in a lifetime type moment... fuck knows its grim there at the minute.

Nothing personal Whad, but it's pretty easy to hate the Dubs. Everyone I know from Ireland absolutely hates you lot when it comes to GAA.

It's a bit like hating the English when it comes to World Cups etc. You just do.

Well, I consider you in the 'blind Dub-haters' category, so no nsurprises there...

Oh, and I don't hate England. I was cheering for them in the WC last summer. I cannot love Stevie and Carra passionately for 3.9 years out of every 4 and then suddenly hate them for the other 6 weeks... Didn't shatter my world when they lost or anything, but I was hoping to see Stevie G lift the WC.

I can no longer justify the fact that I worship LIVERPOOL FC of England and therfore several English players and yet cheer for their failure when they play as a national team...

Now, if they're playing anybody else from the 'home' nations, I'm not cheering for them, but against the likes of Germany or Argentina or f$%!ing France, I'd much rather see Stevie G win the World Cup than Thierry Henry. And it's not like I'm painting my face and waving a St. George's Cross or anything - I'd just rather see them win than other countries that I have no 'link' with.

Also, I've been there countless times, and almost always had a smashing time - Some of my closest friends are English and, without question, the most welcoming, warm, friendly people I've ever encoutered are Scousers. I've also met some stars in/from Lan-dahn, Birmingham, Newcastle and Sunderland. It just doesn't make sense for me to like it/them that much and choose to root for their failure as well.

Only in footy, mind - LOVE watching them lose in the rugger, regardless of who they're playing.
