both will be back for the weekend. in fact I think both were rested for that very game.
[/quote]

I'm afraid you're right.

What i enjoyed was actually seeing some one touch passing again. We look so slow and laboured with Lucas in CM usually as the ball has to be controlled, then controlled again then passed sideways....

Aquilani was a breath of fresh air tonight, but I'd also say that Maxi had a good game also.

We were much better without Lucas and Kuyt tonight. So much quicker, the passing so much crisper and movement so much better.

Sadly Rafa will only have been resting them in advance of the Lille and Man United matches. He will not have noticed how much better we were!

Exactly so Mike.

I couldn't get over the fans tonight singing his name, how thick can they be, surely tonight of all nights demostrated how we have been short changed..
Don't they realise if he had similar moments of sanity, and avoidance of playing Dirk and Lucas when he could have avoided it we might not be in the fucking mess we are now

regard

Kuyt has been well off form recently, but he's been involved in a lot of our best attacking play over recent years, and even earlier in the season when we also shat on a couple awful teams (I think Stoke and Hull).

One romping win against shit where he wasn't included doesn't speak to much. Certainly he shouldn't be included on current form, but all this nonsense that he isn't fleet of thought and everything... enh, he's got a shit first touch when off form, so it wouldn't matter what he had in mind given that he's not in control of the ball.

Exactly my thoughts when I heard it. Although, it didn't seem to be as raucous a chorus as it may have been a year ago.

In fairness Vlad, it was a very half-hearted rendition of his name. As limp as it gets.

Oh , I agree it was not a thumping chorus, but other than the Yanks-Out chants, and YNWA it was probably the loudest of the night.

I know what you are saying Farky, and credit where it is due, he has played his part on occasions, but, tonight demonstrated what I have always said, that a genuine wide player, not very quick admittedly, but neat and tidy and always looking to get forward is always a better option than a hard working square peg in a round hole.
A romping win against shit it may have been, but since the early part of the season, that is not something we have seen, in reality if the finishing had been a bit smarter we could have hit eight past them.
We have not looked so slick in passing and movement all season.

Amen. I just said something similar myself in the post match thread, it was so refreshing.

There was an interview wit Kuyt ahead of the game were he predicted Liverpool would find the scoring form against Pompeys... I guess he didnt know it only took to bench him to find this form!!

for me the bottom line is kuyt will be given his place back in the team he wont have to earn his place back in the team and for me that's why there is aparthy in the squad compared to manu because at manu if you slump you get hooked, end of fucking story.

So our fans showing their support for the Players/Manager (whilst they've been underperforming) is now classed as being "thick" Vlad?

You can all fuck off to be honest, I don't give a flying fuck.
Rafa has ground this team into the fucking dirt, we are a shadow of our former selves and when I look at United and Arsenal turning good teams over I realise exactly how far we have fallen behind.

Support the team as much as we can, support the club even more, and give credit where it is due, fantastic, but to give credit to the manager on his more attacking team selection last night and it worked after everyone has known for weeks , months , years even, that is what it takes, particularly against dross teams at home, when it is all but too late is naive in the extreme, and yes a bit thick.

I hundred % agree with you!!!!

Thanks Insignificance, I realise it's just an opportunity for the remaining Rafa apologists to try and get back by making me out to be a bad fan, they don't like it when someone that goes to the match and is more in touch with the feelings around the city voices an opinion on here.

Haha, take it easy old boy!

I just don't think it's particularly fair to have a dig at some of our fans, just for showing their support last night.

Maybe not worth less... But there is stupid to start singing Rafas name as soon as the team he so fucking obvious should have put on the pitch in december suddenly clicks when they are given the chance in April... Why should you sing his name then? because you are suddenly entertained after loosing 14 (!!!) games earlier this season while we were trying to have control defensively? it is stupid...

First of all: Stevie has not been shit all season. You can say it as many times you like, but it doesnt make it true!

Second of all, Stevie is part of the team and the team has underperformed.... But Stevie doesnt dictate how the team shall play does he?

If you want to back Stevie go ahead. if you think Rafa deserves the praise go ahead and praise him. But to me it will be a bit to praise the guy that starved you cause he stick you a biscuit just before you died.....

Ok... But what does it mean?

Does it mean: We are all behind you Rafa. Forget about everything. Forget about 14 losses this season. Forget about wasting attacking talent on the bench. Forget that your cuasious control the game hysteria has cost us the league, the FA Cup, the CL and soon also the 4th place... We are all behind you whatever you do!

Or is it just a sign that the prawn sandwiches and the beer was allright last night, and hey there we accidentally scored... lets sing Rafas song!!!!
