Darwin Nunez

There's also the question of what United's priorities are. Ten Hag needs to rebuild that whole side, but surely it's CM and CB that he'll prioritise. They seem to want one of Rice or Phillips or De Jong and that young Ajax defender. That itself will cost a lot of money, but I think that's more important to them than getting a new attacker. Relatively speaking, their attacking options are quite decent in Ronaldo, Rashford, Sancho and Bruno.

Timber I think - but from what I read, he's staying another year in Ajax.

Man U will splunk 60-80 million on Phillips imo ... Rice and De Jong will require 100+ million and they won't do it imo.

I think they'll get Timber, but de Jong seem to want to stay at Barca and Rice probably wont fancy a move to Utd and is most likely holding out for a move to Chelsea I reckon.

Is Ronaldo definitively staying at United? I am out of the loop; have not listened to Goldbridge's ramblings for a while...

I think United are the us being used in the same way by Benfica as Monaco did for Tchouameni to bump the price up.

All the Liverpool journos are running with it so I think we will make a bid within a week if there's a serious chance of making it happen. 65mil gbp plus a sell on clause and add-ons of 10-15mil

Would be nice to sign someone that seems like a baller with Mane off and Salah uncertain

This will come down to what Jorge Mendes wants to happen and who’s paying him the most.

I’m sure we’ll see our Agent Fees go up again after we pay him an Extra £5m to get the overall fee down £20m.

I can't see Benfica budging on the price especially if the United interest is real.

From a footballing perspective, I have no doubt that Darwin prefers a move to us, but that doesn't mean much unless we can agree a fee with Benfica.

As others have said, United have shown repeatedly that they will throw money at transfers - they're desperate to be relevant again. Benfica know this and will surely use that to their advantage. Also worth knowing that Darwin is represented by Jorge Mendes, who will undoubtedly be trying to get the best possible terms for himself and his client. If United offer Darwin a bigger salary (and a bigger agent fee for Mendes), you can see Mendes pushing him towards United.

I think the only way it happens is if Darwin is adamant that it is Liverpool or nothing for him.

So, we are the c*** we accuse Barcelona of being?

£85m seems like good value to me, not sure what all the moaning is about.

He seems like easily the best young striker available and ticks all the usual boxes: pace, power, aerial ability, eye for goal, ideal age etc.

If that's the fee we should just get it done. We can sign Bellingham next year.

Err because it's not good value, he plays in a shit league and is unproven at the top level, Haaland went for a lot less, granted his agent fees and dad bung fees meant a higher price tag but you get the point.

Haaland had a clause. Otherwise he'd have gone for about £200m.

If Nunez played in a top league and had scored those goals then he'd be about £150m.

£85m is about fair for him right now.

£85M buys you the guaranteed diamond, not some kid who has a horrendous first touch and still needs a lot of work to do. I'm sorry but £85M for him is outrageous, there's about 10 other strikers out there who are going for less than £85m that would be better value

No it doesn't. Kane would've been £150m or so last summer. That's about the going rate for an established world class striker.

Also, if you think there are ten better value strikers, name them.

He certainly seems to have the biggest upside among the attackers we've been linked with (Raphinha, Danjouma, Bowen). But he's far from a finished article, as this video can attest:

Considering we don't play with a striker in the team I'm opening it up to all forwardss so here goes

Nkunku
Martinez
Danjuma
Gnabry
Lewandowski
Raphina
Leao
Silva
Osimhen
Terrier
Schick

All of whom would cost less than £85m

Vlahovic went for 80 million euros (about 68 million GBP). I think we'll be prepared to pay somewhere in that ballpark. Very similar profiles though you could argue that Vlahovic did it in a better league.

It does seem Klopp was suitably impressed. But maybe it sets a bad precedent to keep signing players who did well against us – we're only encouraging opposition players to have the game of their life against us 🙂

I said strikers. You seem to have named one that I'm familiar with, although maybe some of the others are strikers too, not sure. The one we're all familiar with is about 33 and destined for Barcelona too.

Also, I said better value than Nunez, not less than £85m - which is obviously not the same thing.

Other than that, good job.

Yes fair enough. I'll take your word on him tbh, don't know anything about him.

All of those are better value than £85m Nunez and Barca aren't signing anyone until they solve their debt issues. They've signed three players on a free who they can't register because of the salary cap. So unsure how they're going to free up the money for Lewandowski and his wages.

So yeah good one

But hardly any of them are strikers?!
