Some sort of pun about having a well known member

Maybe one for the mods to merge with the old Jones thread...

Apparently he has started 3 games in the league this season and we've won none of them. We've conceded 8 all season, 7 of which came in those games he started...

I think that last game was the worst I've ever seen him play. On the one hand, the whole midfield was totally dysfunctional, and I was livid that the chickens were coming home to roost watching it, instead of a replacement for wijnaldum playing... so I wasn't thinking about Curtis all that much.

On the other, part of why I thought a replacement was so necessary (including the injury records of the other midfielders) is because I'm not completely sold on Curtis. Not in a Klopp midfield anyway. When he plays deep he looks totally lost.

In the game vs United he also barely gave the ball away, something like 63 out of 65 passes successful. I think the problems with our midfield go far deeper than one 20-year old player.

He's fine when he has time on the ball but struggles in a crowded midfield when he is quickly pressed by the opposition.

Jones wasnt very good against Brighton, but as a young player I think its imperative in regards to who he plays with in midfield. He’s at his best attacking and being creative, and his weakness is defending in our own half. I think he was the player that ran the most against Atletico, so its not that he cant press.

Playing him with Fabinho and Hendo lets him focus on his best attributs. Playing with Ox just makes our midfield out of shape and with zero ability to track runners.

He’s an excellent prospect but not a good player yet. At least not a good midfielder

Jones was on the pitch because we had no one else, except Ox.
Normally, he should only play if he has two other midfielders covering for him, like Hendo and Fabs.

Nope. There is no such thing as a crowed midfield. This is an awful attempt at trying to be clever. Sorry hal but this disgusting post would have been overlooked if The Count wouldn't have brought attention to it's terribleness.

I would ban both of you
I sincerely apologise for being at least partly responsible for what has subsequently materialized.

Jones will turn out a star.

The balance of the midfield is off at the moment due to injuries. Him and Thiago need to be competing for the more adventurous midfield roles with Hendo/Keita and Fabinho slightly behind.

We need to sell Chamberlain and buy a DM.

We need to buy a DM regardless of what we do or don’t do with Ox.

I think he's average. He takes too much time on the ball and is poor defensively. He has been with us for a number of years now, I don't think he has improved that much from when he begun, that is a concern.

It'a blatantly clear we need another defensive mid in the team. God forbids if Hendo and Fab are both out. Ox will be the first out, then Jones, if we are to sacrifice a player to bring a DM in.

He is good defensively up front. He presses well. Further back he struggles. Needs the right players around him though.

He does seem to have fallen flat so far this year. I often think a young player comes in and gets by on arrogance/ignorance for a while until their confidence or their body takes a knock and they see what they are up against. It's not like reserve football it's relentless, you have an off day and you might not play for a month. That's where he's at now, the standard required is currently well above where he's at.

If we weren't so threadbare in midfield I'd suggest he needs a spell out of the team, he doesn't look like a CM, he's ponderous in possession and not aggressive enough without the ball. He takes 3 touches when 1 would do.

I don't think we can afford to have passengers who can only play one way, especially in midfield. He broke into our first team with the reputation of being more of an attacking midfielder which was fine back then. But he has to be able to adapt to being a more rounded player but it is not showing so far. He has good moments but if he can't sustain it for 90 mins consistently then he is no good for us.

With that said, he is effectively our 7th place midfielder thrust into having more minutes because of other injuries, so I guess we should be more patient with him. But I had expected more from him.

I fear he may be in the same boat as Minamino in that the system doesnt quite suit him.

Klopp's 4-3-3 requires hard working, unspectacular midfielders to own the space - Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum types.

Jones is a classic number 10. I think he's best positions are either behind the striker or drifting in from the left in an old style 4-4-2.
