Problem is dreamy, there is no guarantee we'll be able to finish next season either.

Do you want back to back astrerix's?

All the Asterisk means to me is we were so far a head when the season was stopped 2/3 of the way throught that there was no way we were going to get caught...

* = Undisputed Champions

Spurs and West Ham were my first thoughts. Then I was confused why they’d then offer up their own stadiums if they’d want to cancel it.
Brighton are one of them, it seems that they believe playing home games gives them an advantage, even in an empty stadium.

I’m not arsed about the asterisk if it happens. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.

Me neither, I really don't give a fuck about an asterisk. What's the preference? A title with a side note in the history books, or not winning the title when we officially would have won it already? So we win it with an asterisk and put up with a some shit songs at games, even though we know we've won it. Or it gets voided, and we put up with shit songs about it indefinitely and have no guarantee it'll be any time soon that we win it again.

If anything, the 30 year chain around our necks just becomes infinitely heavier. People are gobshites honest to God. Who gives a fucking shit about an asterisk?

Brighton have now said they don’t mind playing at neutral venues as long as they can’t be relegated

Suprise Suprise..

Of course.. any excuse to justify not being relegated

Ive come to the conclusion.. Follow Frances lead..

though I think PPG should be done from the second half of these season to determine the correct positions.. i.e average points from last 9/10 games

Let's play a game. How many spelling and grammatical errors are there in that post ? Hint: the answer is in double figures.

I suggest you install Grammarly mate.

Good, serves the cunts right. It's shortsighted and just plain stupid to cut off the current season without looking at what the financial and legal implications are going to be. They can't play this season or next season until it's safe, so they should have just sat on their hands until they could do something. Why they needed to rush out a decision doesn't make any sense.
It's likely to be safe enough to play sports behind close doors in the next month or so.

Except the French Government banned all sporting events till September

There still isn’t a need to rush into a decision. Every other European country may not be able to play till September. I’ve explained my thoughts on have non-regular seasons over the next 4 years due to the bribery World Cup.

If we can’t play till September then finish the season off by October then start 20/21 in November break for the Euros should they go ahead and finish the season in the second of 21. Then plan 21/22 to end just before the World Cup. We can then start staggering the seasons to get back to normal.

Just scrap the cups till it’s sorted. I’d actually scrap the league cup all together.

TELEVISION COVERAGE
Of the 92 outstanding games, Sky as it stands has 39 matches and BT eight. However, all the games are now likely to be televised, with kick-offs staggered throughout the day. Broadcasters are keen to have extra content to make up for the lack of atmosphere at matches played behind closed doors. A working group has been set up with the 20 clubs to consider ideas, which include the possibility of managers and players being interviewed at half-time, something BT already does in its rugby coverage. Another idea is to allow cameras into the dressing room, with or without sound, a proposal which has been resisted by clubs over the years but is also being considered for next season.

VENUES
The Premier League plans to use between eight and ten neutral grounds to complete the season. Stadiums that are modern and situated in less built-up and densely populated areas are seen as most likely for possible venues, as the Premier League is keen to avoid fans congregating around grounds on match days. Possible venues include Brighton & Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium, which is located five miles outside the city centre, West Ham United’s London Stadium in Stratford, Leicester City’s King Power Stadium and Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

Every game will be shown. Fuck working from home I’ll just be watching football.

The interviews at half time and dressing room access seem like a really shit idea.

The FA never gets how it's wrecking its own cup. They've gone from playing only the final at Wembley, to playing both semis and the final at Wembley, and in Spurs' case recently to playing every home tie at Wembley, and now they're planning to play all remaining games at Wembley. And yet they still gabble on about 'the magic of playing at Wembley'. It's become a competition that surely most fans don't care about unless they're still in it. They should scrap it this year and concentrate on the PL.

The TV people should concentrate on covering the games as 'normally' as possible and stop arsing about looking for novelty features. There is no way on earth Klopp will allow cameras inside the dressing room, and the last thing players need, when they're having to work harder than usual to keep their focus in an empty stadium, is Geoff Bloody Shreeves sticking a microphone in their faces at HT when they should be straight off to the dressing room! What the hell do they think the chat will be like? 'It's half time, how do you think it's going?' 'Okay'. 'Fank yew!' Ridiculous.

From the mirror. It really is self interest that is driving the cancellation of the season. Unsurprisingly.

It is is the vote which will decide the future of English football.

This Friday, less than 24 hours after the Government make their next decision on lockdown, the 20 clubs in the Premier League are set to convene again to decide whether they begin again in neutral “approved” venues amid unprecedented times.

But will it be Project Restart...or Project No Start?

The clues to which way it will go were clear and evident from the video conference gathering last Friday when the clubs were presented with the proposals.

This is the inside story of what happened.

Starting at 10.30am, every club was given time and a chance to put forward their views which is why the meeting took nearly four hours but for those on the call, it was obvious which way the wind was blowing.

And that is moving towards a push to return.

Premier League rules mean that votes need a 14-6 majority to get a motion through – and it appears to be as finely balanced at exactly that figure in favour of the game re-starting.

According to our source, the clubs who spoke up against the restart in the current guise were those in the bottom six – Brighton, West Ham, Watford, Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Norwich.

In fact, our source insisted that it was not as simple as the big six against the rest but more the bottom six against the rest because Newcastle, Southampton, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Leicester and Sheffield United “were all very strong on finishing."

Villa may be willing to play but have concerns about neutral grounds and chief executive Christian Purslow raised concerns on player welfare.

The naysayers might not want to end the season full stop – but they are against playing on under the current proposals.

Issues such as the balancing act of matches being played in a selection of neutral grounds.

At the meeting, Brighton, who are sixth from bottom and two points off the relegation zone, expressed clear reservations in that five of their remaining nine games were at home at the Amex and four of them were against big clubs – Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Brighton claim a neutral venue will put them at a disadvantage (Image: EMPICS Sport)

With no home advantage, does that not put them at a huge disadvantage?

Brighton argued heavily on this issue, that it was unfair. Their chief executive Paul Barber has gone on record as stressing that they should be allowed to play at the Amex and neutral grounds is wrong. Brighton have effectively gone rogue but it is understood others are tempted to follow suit as they feel so aggrieved.

But it is understood that Sheffield United actually made the point that Brighton were forgetting that every club now has “away advantage” – neutral grounds are more of a level-playing field.

And it is the same for both teams, rather than struggling sides facing a tough away game.

West Ham, a place below Brighton in the table, sounded major reservations from the player safety aspect. They argued strongly on player welfare.

But the FA pointed out that clubs should be careful on what precedents are being set because if this season was called off, then next season would be in jeopardy as well as the coronavirus is not going away any time soon.

The Premier League said “industry leading safety measures” were being used to give players all of the necessary assurances before they go back to training.

But during the meeting, it was argued that no-one will be “100 percent safe” until a vaccine is found – so should the doors remain closed until then?

It was also stressed that the Government will decide on testing and no footballer will be tested ahead of a key frontline worker.

One big club insisted it should not be overlooked that some Premier League clubs employ over 600 staff and their jobs will be jeopardy along with community schemes if they cannot get going again because of the finances at stake.

But even the clubs who are fully onboard are well aware that some of their players have concerns about their health and also of their families.

The video conference call was presented with a seven page document of a stage one return to training which would mean strict social distancing including four players and a goalkeeper on one pitch.

They were told the protocols have yet to be agreed with the Government so the discussion was limited.

Individual training could return at every club within the next fortnight, team training by May 18 and the Government could allow Premier League football to be start again on Friday June 12.

Ironically, that was the date Euro 2020 was set to begin.

The fixture list will remain in the same order, with the FA Cup also factored in and the final potentially on August 8, with games played as frequently as every three days.

The hope is that the season could be completed between six and seven weeks.

Now it is down to the vote.

It is a hugely complex issue. It is dividing the Premier League.

Friday will be a day that will be remembered for a long time.

=======================

THE BREAKDOWN

The doubters

The clubs who expressed doubts against restarting:

Brighton

West Ham

Bournemouth

Watford

Norwich

Aston Villa

Those in favour are:

Arsenal

Burnley

Chelsea

Crystal Palace

Everton

Leicester

Liverpool

Man City

Man United

Newcastle

Sheffield United

Southampton

Tottenham

Wolves

The main issues the bottom six came up with were:

Testing (ie NHS need it more)

Neutral Venues isn’t fair

June 30th deadline players out of contract

Players won’t/don’t want to play

THE OTHER KEY ISSUES

Neutral Venues

Away games now give teams an advantage they did not have before so it is balanced against losing home advantage.

It was also made clear that the “eight to ten” stadiums being chosen as neutral “approved venues” was the choice of the police and Government and not the Premier League.

The Premier League described it as “a test” for next season and told the clubs that if they can demonstrate it can work safely then it could return to 20 grounds for next season.

They would also look at returning teams to their own grounds for next season even though some advantage would be greatly reduced if games are behind closed doors.

Will fans stay away? Will grounds be kept secret to stop fans from turning up?

Our source insists it was stressed that the British public have shown they can obey orders to stay inside. There is no reason to say they won’t do that now. Especially when each club will make it clear to their fans to stay at home and watch it on TV.

There was no suggestion on the video conference call to the clubs that the grounds will be kept secret.

June 30 contract cut off dates

It was argued that there is a small minority of players - around 75 - who will become free agents on June 30. Premier League contracts aldo contain a provision to ensure out of contract players are paid until July 31.

Also, any player would only be allowed to play for his current club until the season finished independent of when the window opens.

Player safety

This was stressed as the “number one concern.” The clubs were told the Premier League are now on the DCMS multi sport panel. They have the Government’s epidemiologists and virologists advising. Our source insisted that they need to sign off the protocols. It was stressed they will say when it’s safe to play - and not anyone else. Our source added: “I would say everyone was glad to hear that it would be industry leading safety measures to give players and staff the assurances.”

Return to training

The video conference call was presented with a seven page document of a stage one return to training which the clubs were told would mean strict social distancing including four players and a goalkeeper on one pitch. They were told the protocols have yet to be agreed with the Government so the discussion was limited. The source added: “All those points have not been discussed at this stage. Step by step and monitor.”

Be funny if we restarted normally and they still got relegated.

Playing at neutral venues doesn't give anyone an advantage over anyone else, so Brighton can fuck themselves up their right arseholes.

If the bottom 3 are currently against the restart of the league, I presume they're of the assumption that this would mean they don't get relegated else they'd be desperate for a restart. The league should have told them if we don't restart then they go down.

The Premier League have no bottle.

Everybody is waiting on them to decide what plan of action they are going to take.

Even UEFA.

Just force all teams to play behind closed doors, 2 games a week. Simple as.

Who cares? It isn't his dissertation, an e-mail to his boss or a work report. You have to tread very carefully before you pull people up on silly little things, as there are plenty of mistakes in yours as well. I type conversationally because I 'mind dump' on forums and the like. It isn't a mark of intelligence, it is a mark of grammar or punctuation not being essential on here.

I think they are weighing up losing £50 million this year against £200 million next year, such is the drop off to the championship. If it gets going again they may well go down but cancelling the season means they get another bite of the cherry.

No idea why because they won’t have the money to buy anyone over the summer and will be just as shit next year.

It's only the pricks who are against pricks.

Poor old Lovren has looked practically suicidal in those LFC zoom videos. I guess being stuck at home with a wife who cheated on you in the past must crank up the depression. She's probably taunting him non-stop.

Plenty of mistakes in mine ? Don't talk bollocks lad.

You clearly haven't been here long enough to be in on this, it's an ongoing gag. Although, clearly, he needs help !

I said this ages ago move the season to a calendar year, will also cater for the world cup in 2022

Problem is poster contacts, you will have players out of contact during the season

It’s not really. You could extend the January window and shorten the summer window. It’s up to the clubs/players/agents to work out extending contract end dates to fall in place. Same for commercial contracts. The sooner that’s worked out the easier it is.
