Countdown to Armageddon

Lets just hope that Gerrard and Meireles are the chosen two? Cole, Maxi and Babelinho to support Torres and the agricultural lads away to the top 10 sides.

Big bunch of children. We should have a nickname thread.
Good idea

The danes should be easy to nickname. It is the only country were the whole population has nicknamed one of their internationals after a beer. And it stuck with John "Faxe" Jenssen. So Christian "bacon" Poulson should be just ok.

OK, well we'll give "Bacon" a go and see how it works out.

Oh dear.

Benitez is going to Juve. Broughton has nothing new to talk to him about re: investment. And I do mean NOTHING.
So Benitez is going to take the offer and funds promised.
Mascherano and Torres will *both* leave this summer.
Gerrard is 50/50 at best to stay.

We won't have a new manager in place for a while, although Hodgson looks likeliest.

It's game over.
So, not quite "game over" and overall how do we feel?

Benitez out. Granddad in.
Not too unhappy to be honest Bren, I know that might make me unambitious , but Benitez had been getting on my tits and had obviously lost it and had to go. I think the place is a whole lot calmer now, and I didn't see any stand-out candidates , I think Roy was the right man at the right time
Only Masher left, as we all knew would happen anyway.
Only a fule would have thought he was not off I am amazed he never went in January
At least one more season from Torres. Gerrard staying.
Yes, Gerrard will be going nowhere now, and Torres has done the decent thing, but will be off next year without new money
No new owners. No investment.
It's hard to know what is going on. It seems there are irons in fires, a Chinese chancer got blown out, but it looks like people are waiting until H&G really have their trousers by their anklse in October. I still think it will be the arabs and they really want then to suffer for past indiscretions
Another transfer window in which we made a profit.
I suppose it's clever business improved the squad with a proffit. I would like to think if suitable striker cake up they would have spent it
Purrssssslow still a lying cunt.
I don't know if he is or he ain't
Broughton has done nothing.
I don't know if he has or he hasn't. If he saw through Huang that is fine, but as I said I think there is still plenty going on behind the scenes, we will only know the true answer to that when MB packs his bags
Started the season poorly.
I am not too sure about this one. By my reckoning we are a point behind where we should have been. I think had I been asked before hand I would have taken five points out of those three games.Arsenal at home, a big improvement on last year. Beaten by City, the only issue here is we were well beaten, but the whole Mascher thing was unsettling. We beat Trabzonspor with a largely second string which was not an easy game, and beat WBA in a bit of a dour game, the type of game we have a history of drawing or losing. Torres is not at full fitness, Poulsen is still coming up to the pace, Cole has not been available, and we now have some better players to come in

On the plus side with regard to new players: Joe Cole on a free. Hope for Meireles? Insua, Plessis, El Zhar gone.
Negative: Christian Crapsen. The Cunt still here, despite Stoke's efforts to take him on loan. No new striking options.
Roy has also obviously sussed out Lucas and Babel's potential, and we have a recognised left back in place, although I know you are not overly keen it is an improvement over the last few years,

So not "Armageddon" quite. But it's getting there.
Not its not Armageddon, but we have brought ourselves some time. We have a squad which is in fact better than last year despite losing Mascher, and I seem to remember this time last year we were going to win the League according to some.
If we had signed a striker I would have thought we might have stood a slight chance of fourth with a large dollop of luck. As it is I think we can improve one or two places on last year.

regards

Substantially agree with that, except perhaps to say I don't think our chances of getting 4th are all that remote. Citeh have already lost to Sunderland and Villa are at odds with themselves. Tottenham will be hard to shift but we knew that anyway.
Tottenham will lose every single game after their European games. Its Us vs Citeh for top 4.
