I know we all complain about weird referee decisions but people rarely speculate that there's a lot of corruption in the Premiership.

However, we've seen cases in recent years in both Germany and Italy where referees and players are on the take. Sadly we've also had some of our own players accused of throwing games in
the past too.

When you watch weird things happen in football matches, do you ever think there's corruption afoot?

I highly doubt there is widespread corruption in the Premier League, though you cant legislate for the odd rotten egg
For instance I'm certain Fulham goalie Mark Schwarzer had a bet on when they played us.

If corruption extends to a bias against a team , and that influences decisions - like I witnessed yesterday

regards

I think there isn't a single walk of life where corruption is not present. Some professions are just more professional at hiding it!

It was so obvious with Webb yesterday. He knew what result he wanted and did his best to ensure it happened

I had a quick flick through a couple of newspapers today in the airport too, not one mention of our game in the papers.

BUt does anyone think money is changing hands between officials/players and other parties?
Did you read the Graham Poll article recently ?

Someone a few years ago pointed out how odd it was the number of times the ball was kicked out for a throw in straight from the kick off. Almost as if someone was spread betting on how many minutes until the first throw

Not in the top couple of leagues. Those below though, I'd be absolutely amazed if it wasnt a regular occurrence.

I dont think it is rampant but I would be very surprised if not even a single instance of money changing hands has not occurred in the last 10 years in PL. The stakes and the rewards are too high.

As Vlad pointed out earlier, there is definitely a case for biased officiating resulting in a persons career being furthered. Look no further than Mike Riley.

Of course.

I voted "Yes" but I don't believe it's endemic. There will always be a certain level of corruption in business/sport etc when such big sums of money are at stake. If we ever find a cure for greed this would be a wonderful world in which to live.

I think the BBC made a TV documentary a couple of years ago about corruption in the English football game.

I can't believe that at least 6 people here don't think there's anything shady going on.

92 League clubs.

There simply has to be.

Hasnt one of our own past players been found out?
And I hate it when I see some posters nominate him as one of our greatest ever players. Before Pepe came along some younger posters (who never saw Clemence) nominated the cunt in their "best ever" LFC teams. I will always believe he was guilty as hell.

This. Especially when you take into account some of the colourful characters involved in the game. How else did Abramovich get his billions?
