Pretty sure Lawrenson left to manage Oxford at the start of that season. Also I think Whelan was injured most of the season, so Spackman may take his place with Stan or Tim O'Tay on the bench

Honestly none of them whould make our team. They'd be classed as unfit compared to todays players.
Probably only Barnes, I guess.

Uuuummmm... I think it’s possible you kind of missed the whole point of the thread.

I didn't - its just that was the Liverpool team I first engaged with properly and so stands out as my favorite team. Its a sentimental/nostalgic choice rather than a player by player comparison.

If I was to be really technical about it (which, being pedantic is not what the OP specified), the one thing I can say for sure is that Stevie Nicol will be in any combined 11 form any era in my book, not for his skills (which were not shabby) but for his sheer versatility and hence his usefulness as a member of any team/squad, He would grace any one of the 7 positions in defence or midfield in our current setup, and possibly even in the wide attacking options at a push

Yeah - I know it seems bad to not include Nicol - and I agree he could fill multiple places, but the first thought I had was... he’s practically a one man bench.
