Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10654-021-00808-7

-“At the country-level, there appears to be no discernable relationship between percentage of population fully vaccinated and new COVID-19 cases in the last 7 days.”

-“In fact, the trend line suggests a marginally positive association such that countries with higher percentage of population fully vaccinated have higher COVID-19 cases per 1 million people.”

-“Notably, Israel with over 60% of their population fully vaccinated had the highest COVID-19 cases per 1 million people in the last 7 days.”

-“[T]he effectiveness of 2 doses of the BNT162b2 (Pfizer-BioNTech) vaccine against preventing COVID-19 infection was reported to be 39%, substantially lower than the trial efficacy of 96%.”

-“The lack of a meaningful association between percentage population fully vaccinated and new COVID-19 cases is further exemplified, for instance, by comparison of Iceland and Portugal.”

-“Both countries have over 75% of their population fully vaccinated and have more COVID-19 cases per 1 million people than countries such as Vietnam and South Africa that have around 10% of their population fully vaccinated.”

-“Notably, Israel with over 60% of their population fully vaccinated had the highest COVID-19 cases per 1 million people in the last 7 days.”

And 90% of those in serious condition in hospital under 60 and with no preconditions are unvaccinated... yes the vaccination failed in some of what we'd be led to believe it would do - 100% right ... but in keeping most of us out of hospital with no serious issues? Job done ... Gerry's earlier seat belt example explained it well imo.

Neil Young has issued a rather bizarre threat to Spotify.

Eh...I think we'll keep our biggest podcast Mr Young.

In fairness the request to remove Joe Rogan for Covid misinformation is supported y plenty of medical experts like vets and nurses.

No idea what request you're talking about, just saw the Neil Young one, but I imagine it's not just vets and nurses that realise there was a load of unsubstantiated bullshit on those recent podcasts.

I didn't see the Neil Young because he's already deleted it apparently.

The widely publicised 300 doctors and scientists that made a request to Spotify is still available to view online. It's worth doing a quick Google search on the people that signed it. They're an interesting bunch.

Did you do a Google search on the people behind “The National Pulse”. They’re an interesting bunch of people too.

Only something like 82 of the 300 are licensed to practice medicine. Some are vets, dentists, nurses etc. There are even students included.

The full list of people who signed the letter is a funny read:

It's pretty much a list of Karen's

Alie Ward: Host/Science Correspondent, Ologies Podcast

Elle Michel, LMFT: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Elissa Tremblay, MSN: Nurse Practitioner

Jaclyn Steinbach, BVetMed MRCVS: Head of Veterinary Translational Medicine

Lia Griffiths, PsyD: Psychologist

Natalie Soto, MSc: Science Teacher

Nini Muñoz, PhD: Senior Design Engineer

Robin Hills, MMSci, MSRCS: Instructor, Shoreline Community College

Sara Pentlicky, MD, MPH: Chief, Division of Complex Family Planning

Sarah Perl, LCSW-R: Licensed Clinical Worker

His vids tend to be good if overly long, but you can't really moan about nurses and other people not being licensed to practice medicine getting involved in the debate when he's a nurse and isn't licensed to practice medicine.

I wasn't particularly moaning about them getting involved. Just adding to Ross's point. I think nurses could be reasonably well positioned to comment. Don't know about vets? Students though is a bit much.

I could probably do with rewording my original comment. It does look like I'm having a go at nurses

They can all have an opinion.

My problem is the media portrayal of it, which as usual was incredibly disingenuous

The only fact I'm arsed about is that there's less people in ICU with it than any point in the last six months, so hardly anyone is getting ill or dying of it. With it, yeah, but that's a useless stat when so many have had it in the last month.

While I've said it no doubt countless times before, that's probably not just down to the vaccines. The strains have appeared to get much milder as time has gone on. Though, I'm not discounting the part vaccines have played either.

We're going to become a nation of Howard Hughes at this point, OMG germs/virus and what not with people freaking out all the time.
My son (10) had his usual seasonal asthma so he's coughing more than usual, my wife decided he needed testing and he's positive so he's at home. We then received an email from the school to say a bunch of kids from his class are positive and for parents to be vigilant to the symptoms.
We were very careful for the first day with him in his room, feeding him etc but then it's horrific leaving a child in his room for so long without any interaction, at any other point that would be child abuse for something he doesn't have any real symptoms apart from the cough.

Bit of both innit. As well as AZ being well better than the yank shit.

Another martyr who has laid down his life in the name of our lord. It is better he has been burned out than merely faded away. I will pray for him.

In a follow-up letter published on Wednesday, Young said that Spotify represented 60 percent of his streaming revenue globally, which amounted to “a huge loss for [his] record company to absorb,” but that he moved forward with removing his catalog because he “could not continue to support Spotify’s life threatening misinformation to the music loving public.”

“I truly want to thank the many, many people who have reached out to me thanking me for taking this position — people who are health professionals on the front lines, people who have lost loved ones to COVID or who are worried for their own children and families. I have never felt so much love coming from so many,” Young wrote in Wednesday’s letter. “I sincerely hope that other artists and record companies will move off the Spotify platform and stop supporting Spotify’s deadly misinformation about COVID.”

The funnier thing is Neil Young doesn't appear to own all of his own music, so either half of it will be removed or all of it will be removed and he'll get sued by the investment company that owns the rest

Didn't Joe Rogan sign a huge deal with spotify not that long ago? Would spotify pull the plug on that and then have to pay Rogan off or just remove Young's songs?

Incidentally, I don't know if it's true or just my imagination, but I listen to spotify quite a lot while working and when I was working from my da's house in Belfast just before Christmas spotify seemed to play a lot more ads than what they do in Greece.

Ads!!!!!!

Pay the $10 a month to fuck them off ya tight Arse!!!

I'm not sure if he's smart or not, but I've listened to more Neil Young songs on Spotify in the last two days than I had in a long time before. He may have stumbled on a better way of getting publicity, than dying.
